We came here for Cinco De Mayo. We had chips and house made guacamole which was great! Wife says it's the best she's ever had. Dinner was 3 chicken soft tacos which were outstanding. The house hot sauce was tasty & hot. Wife had pulpo taquitos which she says we're seasoned deliciously. Plates were perfectly proportioned & prices were reasonable. Had a few margaritas to top off the night. Will go back again it's awesome!

Great place to eat food is great. The steak is amazing. Not too bad on the prices will definitely come again. This is like my eight time being there.

Go to Mexican on Staten Island for the most authentic and delicious food. Tacos, burritos and fajitas are the stars but there are enough on the menu to please anyone (even vegans). Polite helpful staff. Street parking. Moderate prices. Pro tip: try the Cadillac margarita

Cinco de mayo calls for a lunch with my daughter for some. Great Mexican cuisine !!! This is a small location with limited seating , in a historic landmark. Lunch is certainly the best option on a day like today as there will be no reservations taken and I am certain w wait later today . We were able to pick our seats but even at lunch it was packed with only 2 options for sitting available. The menu has a variety to choose from always making it difficult to choose what to eat, but we made our choose to order appetizers and a menu. Food always is out hot and fresh to order. Large drink selection and you could order pitchers of margaritas which I do only at dinner time with a designated driver as their bar menu options is large . Service is always fast and quick

This is an absolute hidden gem! It's a small cozy cantina with the best Mexican food. I am a big foodie. I'm in the events industry so I'm used to eating incredible cuisine. Because of it , I've become quite a food snob when it comes to eating out. My sisters came to visit me in Staten Island. We found this place to stop in for a quick lunch. I was extremely impressed with their quality of Mexican cuisine served. It is authentic and absolutely delicious. My favs are the Cancun Shrimp Tacos and Chicken Tortilla Soup. the best tortilla soup I've had. I've been here a few times since and their service is on point which is another pet peeve of mine. If a place doesn't have good service, I won't go back. Cantina Mexicana has become one of my fav spots. If my boyfriend wasn't such a good cook I would be here more often. You will not be disappointed! Just go!

First time trying this place. Husband has the tacos were great but the pastor ones were on point. My son loved his quesadilla so I can't complain. I would say that the prices are a little expensive. Not the type that'll break your bank BUT I would of thought it would at least come with sides you know. My flautas were good I didn't mind them. Good amount of chicken inside of them as well as the sauces on top were good. I also think that it should put at least come with sides. Some lettuce/sour cream/etc for the price. The margarita was good. I had the tamarindo one. My husband had the blueberry one. That one was ok. I would still try them again. He ordered the tacos. One pastor, one shrimp and one beef. He said that they were all delicious it would recommend the pastor since that was his favorite out of the 3. Service was good considering it was slow today (Saturday). They have outdoor seating and indoor as well. We sat outside. We had dessert as well. My husband and son liked the flan. It was devoured within minutes lol. I would come back again. I the food wasn't bad. Plus this place is literally down the street from us.

This place gives cute Mexican diner vibes, great for a rainy day and a comfort food pick me up. Staff was friendly however food is just average, Birria tacos were not worth the hype here especially for the price (this is coming from a Birria landia lover), overall worth a try :)

My favorite taco lunch place on the island! I know I can always count on cantina Mexicana when I'm craving for some yummy delicious filled tacos! My favorites are barbacoa, shrimp, and carnitas! It is seasoned to perfection and the tacos are STUFFED! Three is more than enough for me! Oh and they give free chips too! This place is just too good! However I was shocked by an unsweetened ice tea is $4! That's outrageous! It's in a size of mason jar. Next time I'll stick with margaritas during happy hour or water during lunch! But the tacos are so worth it!

A friend told me about this place & we popped in for karaoke after a day at the beach. It was poppin! Rick & Wil are the DJ's for the karaoke kick off. It's a festive spot that has a great community backing. There is a bar for up close chatting with the happy bartender & seating inside as well as outside. We had just eaten so we enjoyed a couple of mojito's. They were okay. Next time we'll do something frozen. We had a ball! As a karaoke enthusiast_it was nothing less than a therapy session, of which I am a proponent versus misdirected anger. If you're ever in the area on a Tuesday night & in the mood for some rockin' therapy, I mean karaoke come on through!

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Ordered there a bunch actually. The orders I've placed were through Grubhub though. There in lies the problem. It was always a problem with the order. The final straw came when I ordered an item and (like other times before) called to tell me that what I ordered is actually what I ordered and what I did order was $3 extra. So rather than just admit the mistake and just eat the $3, the woman on the phone kept wanting me to just take what I didn't want. So now I tell her I'm fed up and I just want a refund. She says she can't because it's through Grubhub. I ask to speak to the owner, GUESS WHAT, I was speaking to the owner! I told her that wasn't true. She then starts in with the "why can't I be the owner", implying I'm sexist. The reason I know it isn't true because from prior experience, the owner was a man. So I'm done with this place. The food was just okay, the nickel and dime routine on customers isn't worth the bland Mexican food. If you're looking to have okay Mexican food with horrible service and attitude, then I guess this place is for you. As for me, I rather starve than eat from here again.

The experience was very pleasant, and service was quick (I paid and I had a few minutes to go across the street to the Mexican bakery to get two cream puffs for a $1 while they make my tacos) while they made my food. I stopped by at around 11am and the place was empty but there are plenty of seats available in the taqueria with lots of Mexican drinks options. The ambiance was quiet. I asked for two cacti tacos, also known as the Taco Azteca at this taqueria as recommended by the other Yelpers. I started with two because I heard that their tacos run big. These tacos were enormous and I was full eating after just one taco and saved the other one for an afternoon snack!! They also give you a generous cup of green sauce, which is one of my favorites! Because normally when getting a cactus taco in the other boroughs, they only give you a straight vegetarian taco only, but I was very surprised it came with a big chunk of meats. For $10-12 for two big giant tacos, I feel like I am getting fed very well. I'll definitely be back again to try their lamb/goat soup as recommended by the other Yelpers.
