The online site allowed me to make dinner reservations for 1/10/26. Upon arriving, in the pouring rain, Mezzo had a note on the door that they were closed for 2 weeks. THEN, I get a text message asking me how my dining experience was!!! When a restaurant closes they need to update their website to let people know. This was the worst experience ever! read more

We went late afternoon on a Sunday. We were the only ones in the restaurant! The food was very good, as was the service!

I was okay with the service being slow--we were catching up with friends and weren't in a rush. But when the food arrived? Cold burger. Cold fries. Cold mashed potatoes with a crusty little skin blanket on top, like it had been sitting out waiting for winter. The "special" burger was nothing special and everything the waitress said would be on the burger, was not! No bacon, no cheese. Just potato chips... on a burger. So, if you're into surprise cover charges, slow service, and entrees served straight from the fridge, this is the place for you! read more

I'll start by saying I was not able to go here. I made a reservation online for our family to take our daughter out for a special dinner. I received an email confirmation for the reservation. A few days later, on the day of the reservation, when we were on our way from out of town, we received a "we look forward to seeing you soon" message from them. When we arrived, however, we found that restaurant was closed. Closed in Jan and Feb except for special events. I went back to their website to see if I had missed an alert about their hours, and zero mention of it. I can understand this snafu if they were closed unexpectedly (power loss, plumbing problem), but if they know that they are essentially closed for 2 months, then it seems like a no-brainer to put that information on the website AND not to let the reservation system accept reservations. read more

Hit or miss, honestly. i feel as though they change their "dresscode" all the time. They didn't allow ripped jeans, cargo pants, or army print at one point. yet, you walk in and see (USUALLY) women with ripped jeans all the time. i was told they were denying people entry for their shorts or pants not having belt loops, but saw a few people with such pants on (again, typically women), which i think is weird. you can't pick and choose who should follow a "dresscode," which by the way, they don't specify any where. i guess it just depends on their mood the night you go. it isn't as popular as it was pre-covid. there's also a $10 entry fee for everyone. i have personay never had an issue with service, i feel as though it's as effecient as it can be depending on how busy they are. the DJ upstairs is way better than the one on the patio, who by the way, plays the same mix from 4 years ago. i have never been here for lunch or dinner, just for the night life, typically after 11pm. the line to get in *used* to wrap around the whole street, so when i went last night i was a bit nervous but was shocked to see that there was no line. guess this just goes to show how unpopular its gotten. read more

I went to Mazzar Grill last night with my friend for dinner. We enjoyed our drinks, a lemonade with a coconut rum and a mint leaf. We enjoyed this very much we started with scallops wrapped in bacon which was one of the special appetizers. And then had a delicious pretzel with cheese sauce that we absolutely loved. We both then had our dinners my friend had a grilled chicken sandwich with french fries. My dinner was a caprice salad with grilled chicken. Everything was very good. The entertainment was great which was 70s music and we enjoyed it very much. read more

WORST FOOD EVER! ON 6/19/24 I and 4 of my friends went to Mezzo's for dinner and entertainment. We ordered crispy brussel sprouts, pizza, scallops with risotto, chicken tenders, french fries and drinks. The brussel sprouts were not crispy; they weren't even cooked! They were so hard (raw) that they were unetible. My friends pizza, thin crust with cheese; again not cooked. The dough was not cooked in the middle! The scallops were very good, but the risotto was worse than a boxed mix. Although my friends did enjoy the chicken tenders and french fries, my suggestion would be to eat home before you go to Mezzo's for any food. You should hire real cooks in the kitchen! read more

THIS IS A GOOD READ: Got invited to Mezzo for the first time. Apple Pie Bomb drink was delicious & Mac & cheese bites were superb. We sat outside and listened to the live band who was very talented. Service was fast and friendly. Unfortunately my second visit was not as great. In fact, it was horrible. The hostess to start, was wearing a "dress". Extremely unprofessional attire as this dress was so short I could see her cheeks and so low cut I could see her.. chest. The fabric of this dress was super thin and of course, no bra so I literally saw every inch of this young woman. Which is not classy or professional in any way. This didn't affect my want to be there though so we went in and sat at the bar. I ordered the Apple Pie Bomb drink again but this time the bartender did not do the cinnamon sugar rim, huge disappointment as garnishing your drinks is a key aspect. A few minutes later I look over at the fruit garnishes, the limes and lemons were covered in flies. On the bar itself, under the garnish tray there was what looked like a long beetle crawling all over the place. Quite nasty honestly. After seeing all those bugs I couldn't bring myself to finish my drink. Both of these evenings were busy evenings on the weekend with lots of people outside and not too many inside. Hi, I am a female student at Wesleyan. I attended senior night at Mezzo Grille last night. I was standing up on the deck enjoying drinks with my classmates and I witnessed an older man tackle a student from behind. He pushed the student so hard he knocked another female student to the ground!! Come to find out the older "Gentleman" is the General Manager of Mezzo Grille. I did ask for his name but was unsuccessful in obtaining it. This was completely unprofessional and avoid able. Word of advise to Mezzo Grille let Security handle it next time! Especially considering he was in street clothes and not identifiable. Thankfully the girl was not hurt!!! read more

I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but this one is warranted. I went to meet up with friends there on a Saturday night (I have been there before in the past) and never had a problem. But this time I was denied entry because my shorts didn't have "belt loops" I was so confused because I was not aware this was an upscale, high end bar. Meanwhile, people with ripped jeans got in no problem. But anyway I asked if I could speak to someone about this and the bouncer pointed to some guy standing by the door which I presume is the owner and he told me the same thing. My shirt is literally covering my shorts. Why does it matter if I have belt loops. Mind you we had just left dinner from a nice place and me and my friends were all dressed nice. My shorts were a nice fitted, fabric material. To top it all off they were charging a $10 cover to get in... Ha! I will never step foot in this trash of a bar again. read more

Band was good "Dereck & The Fun-Bags" Hard to get any service on the patio, and it seemed slow even for a busy night. You need to be sitting at a table or the bar for food service, despite what the doorman may tell you. Skip the mixed drinks. Margarita from a mix (drinkable). Mojito was wrong somehow. Ru Fish tacos were good. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and that's all that was on it so it was a bit tasteless, which was sad. I would label this place as more of a bar/club than a restaurant. Extremely young crowd, if you're in your late 20's/early 30's you're going to be the oldest folks there. We had to pay a $10 cover to get in, for what I'm not sure. Some positives are they offer multiple dancing areas indoors and outdoors. The DJ inside and upstairs was playing a good playlist. The drinks were standard nightclub style beverages. The staff here was extremely rude. One guy literally pulled a bar stool out from under me at the bar and just said "gotta get rid of these sorry". We were then dancing as a group upstairs and they randomly started setting up seating up there which was odd. The bathrooms are disgusting. Highly recommend just holding it if you can. It was raining while we were here and the outdoor restroom flooded. Not one staff member was in there even trying to clean things up. I just want to take the time to acknowledge the bartender on, named Kristen. My girlfriend and I were here and both were talking about how we had to wait forever for drinks while at the bar and never got acknowledged right away. A typical wait time well exceeded 20+ minutes. Kristen was our bartender tonight and has been nothing short of perfect. She is very friendly and is on point in her delivery of service. Top notch and fantastic in her delivery. Let's get the negative out of the way first, I would not come here simply to grab a bite to eat. The menu options are all right and the food takes a good while to be served, but with that said I'm still giving this a 5 star and here's why. There is no other place (in CT) I would rather spend me Saturday nights at. My Saturday routine consists of pre gaming a bit and heading out here around 8pm ish, and grab a bite to eat. I usually go with a small pizza or the loaded fries which are amazing(yes like I said before it does take a while for the food to come but I'm usually buzzed and have a Long Island in front of me so I can't complain)!!! Which by the way, you won't find a better made Long Island anywhere in CT then here(a little pricy at $12 but that's okay). From 8ish to 9:30 they have a band on stage that plays amazing music, and outside on the patio they have cornhole and a ping pong table so it's a really cool atmosphere for a bar. Then around 10pm they bring out the DJ and clear the patio for an outdoor nightclub theme(which is outstanding). It gets crowded on the dance floor around 11pm and that's the time I usually hop on the dance floor and go until about 1:30ish. Everyone I met there is super nice, staff and customers alike. From 11-2 it's like a state of nirvana, everyone is drunk, dancing, and just having a good time together. It kind of reminds me of the music festivals I go to. So all in all I absolutely love this place. I usually end up spending $70-100 on drinks(sucks not being a lightweight ) but it is 100% worth it! I recommend everyone who likes to dance and have a good time to check this place out atleast once and stay as late as you can. The later it gets the more fun it is! read more

Omfg as a Latina DO NOT COME HERE! We walked in and they were beating up a black male. And the security was grossly unprofessional. They played bad bunny for 30 secs and when I asked for ONE bad bunny song the DJ said out loud to everyone that he already played one song and to gtfo of there. Wow! Felt so unsafe just gross! Avoid at allllll costs. It was the first and last time. I'm from LA and Jesus what I would give for ONE GOOD DJ in CT. He played the killers and fall out boy. I'm an emo at heart but damn. Really not a person to write any kind of reviews, always give places benefit of the doubt. Their fake security guard wouldn't allow my boyfriend to come in due to him wearing Terry cloth.... Lol he told us he would have the owner check to make sure he wasn't allowed to get in. The owner literally looked and nodded no. But when I turned my head I literally saw a white man wearing actual sweat pant shorts. Which was the issue he said his short were sweats. Worst experience ever. Called 3 days ahead to make reservations and was told they don't take reservations. Upon arrival 2 hours early was told all tables were reserved and was seated in the tiki bar area. I went to the bathroom the toilet dispenser is broken and no soap to wash your hands . Hello Covid!!! I told a staff member . My friend went 30 minutes later and there still wasn't any soap or tp. Highly disappointed with my experience here . Came here with a friend who wanted to try the $12.95 dinner special. We ended up getting the Steakhouse burgers instead. Great burgers. Covered in bacon, cheese, and a Guinness steak sauce. My mouth is watering for another one already. 1/2 price wine bottles at least on Wednesday night when I was there. Solid wine list and their craft beer list included some solid microbrewery choices. This place is off the main Main Street drag but only seconds walk and worth stopping in. They only had one waitress for the entire dining room. Even though I tried to be polite and convivial towards her, she never warmed up. Wasn't sure if she even wanted to be there but it left me feeling like I was bothering her every time we had a request. Overall, I'll be back. They have a great happy hour specials from 4pm - 7pm and Wednesday 9pm -12pm is ladies night where ladies drink free and I heard there is a great dance floor up stairs. I came here and had a few brews on tap, along with an appetizer. I had the 860, Lagunitas and Third Shift. I tried their Mozzarella balls. They were more like patties (unlike the ones in the photo on Yelp). I thought they were okay, not too bad. They were not burnt, pretty easy to chew on. The bartender was hot and sexy as hell, and she was actually pretty good at serving me. My host/server was very very sweet as well. She was quick and very accommodating. Our table was set up when I asked to be seated at a booth, and she refilled our drinks and checked up on us appropriately. So I hear they have a Jazz night here? I will definitely be back! Three stars because the mozzarella cheese was okay, and the beer selection was okay (not extensive for eclectic beer drinkers). I wanna check out this Jazz night, which I have not yet, so I can't give a review on sound quality and what not. read more

My wife and I went to mezzo for dinner a couple weeks ago on a Saturday night. The indoor bar had no seats available, so we sat at table. They had college football on tv, but even though the weather was fine the signal kept on going out. The service was good, fast, and friendly. I ordered the shipyard pumkin beer but they did not have a cinnamon sugar on the glass rim like other places. My wife got a fishbowl drink which she liked. As for the food we split the pretzels which were good. We also split cheese fries and boneless wings. All of which were pretty good and filling. read more

This bar/club is the best I've been to so far in ct! The atmosphere is beautiful and welcoming. The people there are fun and enjoyable. There are MULTIPLE dance floors and one of them is outside the patio (my favorite one). Mezzos is always packed on the weekends and I am happy to say every time I go there on the weekends I don't ever need to wait outside because of the capacity. The drinks there are normal priced. The only thing that needs work are cleaner bathrooms and more bathrooms!! I would love to spend my birthday here one day read more

Service is SLOW!! Any slower, they'd be moving backwards. Food is good, but not worth suffering through the slow service. 15 minute lunch took over 30 minutes. Waitress tells us bread is served with lunch, which she brings out after we finish eating, and only brings out 2 pieces. I stopped eating here last year because the service was horrible. Well I was looking at my old review, and noticed that is 4 years old! I guess it's time for an update.. We ate here on Valentine's Day, though not for Valentines Day. The food is pretty good, the beer selection has some good choices, but what I really still love is the layout of this place. Unfortunately it wasn't warm enough to use the outdoor patio. (They have outdoor fire pits for one is just a little bit too chilly, but it was literally in the negatives this visit). When the weather is nice, the variety of purposes this place can serve as impressive. You can come here for a semi-classy meal and drinks, or just drinks and apps closer to the barhappy hour at the bar, or fun outdoor night with drinks on the patio and tiki bar, or go upstairs and go to the little club. It's also probably the easiest place to find parking in Middletown, because there's a parking garage right across the street. read more

The food here is great and it's a very spacious place. The service needs improvement as I am always trying to find the waitress to get the check. The only other negative which has nothing to do with food or service is the noise level. If there's a rowdy crowd in the bar or even just one loud person, the sound is amplified throughout the room which makes conversation difficult. This is usually the spot we take our friends when they want to get dressed up and "go out" in downtown Middletown. Decent dance floor upstairs. Usually filled with minglin' singles but sometimes overtaken by weirdos. There was a tiki bar outside that caught fire last year, so now it's a regular outdoor bar area with a patio and a stage for live musicians. No more straw hut. Also a big bar inside with a decent craft beer selection. No happy hour specials, which kind of stinks since it says otherwise on the website. Had a chance tonight to finally sample the food. It was BOGO Tuesday, so one of our two entrees was free. This deal goes until 10pm, and our wallets were happy. I got a NY Strip Steak which came topped with mushrooms and onion rings. The sauce was delicious but the steak was a bit dry. Girlfriend got the Shrimp Campellini, which I wouldn't recommend; virtually no taste and overloaded with raw onions and huge chunks of roasted garlic. Meal came with a salad which was great. It was mixed with pecans, feta cheese, mandarins, and a house vinaigrette; very fresh. Also got bread which was the opposite of fresh. Service was extremely slow but the waiter was nice and we were in no rush. Will be back for the nightlife and not the eats.
