We were not happy. The ticket agent at the front notified the manager who came to talk to us, get some clarification on what had happened and see what he could do to remedy the situation. He (regretfully we did not get his name) went above and beyond to make us happy. He had seats and a table moved into an available space, provided ticket passes and numerous other compensation for the missed step in ticket rescheduling. We had a wonderful experience watching the movie in comfort with good food and spot on service. We will definitely be returning. Any establishment that provides such high quality service deserves much support!

Tickets were on the pricier end especially since it was a Thursday night, but not a big deal. The workers were friendly, and the seats were EXTREMELY comfortable & cushy... I still think about them to this day... I also thought it was nice how movie viewers could order food and the workers would come serve it on a platter! I'm not too familiar with any deals or memberships that the River Oaks Theatre may have compared to its big name competitors, but I highly recommend everyone to experience a film here at least once! Also there is ample parking nearby, but can't speak on it too much since I was dropped off.

How much do we have to spend to get the A/C turned on?!…read more I went this past Sunday to see the Devil Wears Prada 2 (for the second time; first time I saw it at iPic). Tickets are cheap: $30 each. Wine was a rip-off at $20 a glass for table wine (cocktails at iPic are $10). We ordered two glasses without realizing it'd be $40. The bartender had already pour our glasses before we could change our mind (and wish she would have alerted us that for $10 more we could have purchased the entire bottle... So almost $100 later, we are in theater 7 where it was stuffy and hot as hell; people were sweating. I had my jeans rolled up to my knees and eventually went to the concession stand for cups of ice water and they gave me cardboard boxes to serve as a fan. That's just ridic. Def can't blame the staff because they're mostly teens. But management, corporate, and even Nicole Kidman--take notice and fix this stat. For now, we're just gonna go to iPic because you spend about the same amount and for a much more enjoyable movie experience.

I wish I could go more often but they always choose good ones and have good speaker panels. I've also been to other documentaries that I'm not even sure how I have heard about?? Nonetheless I'm glad I have friends that keep me in the loop. I guess this should be more a revue for the venue since so many organizations use it to screen moview and hold discussions. It's really great that Rice can open this up to the public and it provides adequate space and comfortable seating and format for a variety of different events. It's never been too crowded, the screen is large and clear, good sound, fomfortable seats. Behind the theater there is a large common space for pre-or post movie mingling, eating and drinking. Tip: it's super easy to find free parking across University in the neighborhood and walk over!

And for the non-conformist in you, some of their films are more small-time and obscure than what you'd find at the MFA. They're hosting a few different film festivals this year, including an Asian film festival and a Latin American film festival. And they sometimes host Q and A's with the filmmakers, which brings alot of energy to the screenings. Obviously, it comes with the inherent pitfall of any art film venue.. you can see some real stinkers there. But another day, you'll catch something cool and memorable that you would never have seen anywhere else. There are a few cons: First and foremost, it's CASH ONLY and there isn't a convenient ATM nearby. Second, parking is confusing since it's on the Rice campus. And finally, there's no concession stand. The film calendar on their website is well-kept now, and is updated regularly. http://film.rice.edu/Events.aspx

We arrived @ 7:30 for a 9:00 PM movie, there was already a line for prime spots but it's worth getting there with about 1.5 hours to give to allow for checkin, finding a decent spot, and getting set up/going to the bathroom (porta potties were quite clean). They have a small concessions stand and one food truck when I went. Ground was wet so had to deal with a not so great parking or walking to the porta potty situation. One of the things I like most about this venue is the size. It's small enough that you can actually feel close to the artist, which makes the experience much more personal than a huge arena. I love being up close and personal with the talent, and HOB is one of those places where that's actually possible. The venue has a good concert atmosphere without feeling overwhelming, and I've always enjoyed the energy of the crowd. It's easy to see why so many artists stop here when they want a more intimate show. Overall, it's a solid venue for what I go for.
