Nonetheless I'm glad I have friends that keep me in the loop. I guess this should be more a revue for the venue since so many organizations use it to screen moview and hold discussions. It's really great that Rice can open this up to the public and it provides adequate space and comfortable seating and format for a variety of different events. It's never been too crowded, the screen is large and clear, good sound, fomfortable seats. Behind the theater there is a large common space for pre-or post movie mingling, eating and drinking. Tip: it's super easy to find free parking across University in the neighborhood and walk over!

And for the non-conformist in you, some of their films are more small-time and obscure than what you'd find at the MFA. They're hosting a few different film festivals this year, including an Asian film festival and a Latin American film festival. And they sometimes host Q and A's with the filmmakers, which brings alot of energy to the screenings. Obviously, it comes with the inherent pitfall of any art film venue.. you can see some real stinkers there. But another day, you'll catch something cool and memorable that you would never have seen anywhere else. There are a few cons: First and foremost, it's CASH ONLY and there isn't a convenient ATM nearby. Second, parking is confusing since it's on the Rice campus. And finally, there's no concession stand. While the tree lighting ceremony on Post Oak boulevard has been going on for years, this was the…read morefirst time I've attended. The even had street vendors, entertainers, and lots of family fun. The festival had lights on the roof of buildings and a fun show on the stage. This was the debut of the "new" trees on post oak boulevard, and they did not disappoint. They were 20 feet tall and made of twisted stainless steel with 249 LED lights on different points of the "trees". They were a very a modern take on the "Christmas Tree" and they were beautiful. The trees and fireworks were meant to be lit at 7:00 P.M., it didn't exactly go as planned, but nobody seemed to mind. Once the firework display began, the crowd was amazed, including myself. The uptown post oak tree lighting event was a sight to see and I would highly recommend.

If you've lived in Houston at least 10 years, you should attend this annual event at least once. Pros: - There is lots of parking even if you don't arrive early. The flyer also has a map of the free parking areas. - The music is good. - There are some booths, one of which lets you throw a ball through some holes in the back and you could win t-shirts, stress balls, etc... - There are police directing the flow of traffic which made leaving the area smooth. - There are lots of food options (albeit mostly unhealthy carnival type food). - The other attendees are polite (We only saw one drunk guy helped by his friends. Alcohol was not available at the event so I'm not sure how that happened.) - There are lots of places to sit (e.g. along the curb, concrete garden walls of surrounding businesses, etc...) I brought a chair for my mother, though. - The terrific fireworks show at the end was choreographed to music. - The emcees did a good job entertaining. - It was held in a fun area so you could walk around if you were waiting for the fireworks. - Some booths sold hot chocolate for only $2 when the temperatures were in the low 50s. - The food was not overpriced (except that bbq food truck selling turkey legs for $10 each). Cons: - They advertised food trucks but other than a bbq one, they were mostly generic fair food tents serving turkey legs ($8!), hot dogs, corn dogs, nachos, fajitas, sandwiches, tortas, funnel cakes, etc... - Lots of vendors were selling flashing colorful light toys that may make parents buy junk for their kids, wasting money. - I didn't see any portable restrooms. - There were strobes flashing lights. - The diesel-fueled generators powering some of the food tents were really loud and smelly.

Parking here is quite difficult, and often people park parallel opposite of the theater. They will be moving locations soon to somewhere more scalable, which is very exciting! Seats are very intimate, with the front row being feet away from the actors. Every play I've seen here has been very entertaining and the volunteer cast members are clearly dedicated!

I was a little worried that when I would come out my car may have gotten towed but I was very happy that it was still there when I came out as I wasn't sure if I could park where I did. But back to Classic Theatre Company (abbreviated as CTC henceforth). Last night I went to go see the CTC production of A Doll's House. When I was a junior thespian in high school, I remember reading A Doll's House in my theater arts class. It had made such a positive impact on me that I couldn't wait to go see this production. The lead character was Nora (Torvald's wife) and she was played by a young upcoming actress who literally captivated you the entirety of the play. Although the stage was what you would expect from a small community theater, the way it was produced as well as the acting, I was lost in the play the whole time I was there. Upon entrance the counter is directly in front of you, so there is no way that you can miss the ticket booth. We had purchased our tickets online. There is a discount for students and educators as well as senior citizens and those who are in the theatre industry. The stage is akin to a box theater where you are close to the stage. The only negative I would say was the smell of feet which was due to the fact that the lady behind me took her shoes off. P.U. You shameless heathen. During the intermission you can get concessions like any proper theater. They allow you take those inside. By the end of the second act the house started smelling like a bottle of wine had broken. Everyone left very happy. In my opinion this is a great place to bring your friends, dates, parents, everyone! There is boundless talent here from what I saw last night and I cannot wait to come back. P.S. CTC is in the Chelsea Market so parking is an obvious. Just don't park in areas that specifically reserve the spots for other shops or you will get TOWED!

I really didn't know what to expect from this venue since it was on navigation I was already a bit skeptical, then when I rolled up there was no street parking however, there was an abandoned lot across the street that was supposed to be for the theater. There was a guy outside directing traffic and he remained outside watching over the cars, sure enough nothing bad happened. As far as the venue, goes it's a tiny space, but perfect for this show. It holds a total of maybe 50 people. I was lucky enough to sit front row, literally seats away from the sound guy and only a few feet away from the band. I love a small venue as you feel you are literally a part of the show. This live action documentary had great energy. I love this place, and will be back for future shows!
