Offering wide leather reclining chairs with no issues, it's a cool theater (as far as I've experienced). Bathrooms are kept clean as well from what I've seen, and the Staff are pleasant (those I've encountered). Located in a shopping plaza, there's, of course, plenty of parking available. This location (for my friends and I) is often our go-to because it's less crowded and we stand to get more times to choose from. It also doesn't hurt that across the parking lot is Marble Slab Creamery, a nice place to grab a sweet treat after the show. Check it out!

It's right off I-10 and not far from the Washburn Tunnel, making it an easy and strategic stop--especially for cheap matinees when I'm trying to dodge traffic I've even timed appointments at the Discount Tire next door so I can catch a movie while my car gets worked on. Pro tip: make an afternoon of it with a happy hour stop at Chili's in the same plaza before your show--apps, a margarita, then a short walk to the theater? Yes, please. This theater knows its audience. They regularly feature Spanish-language films, anime, and more alternative or niche flicks you don't always see at big chains. It's a small but meaningful sign that they're paying attention to the community they serve, and I respect that. Inside, it's mostly clean and has been upgraded with recliner seating, which at this point is a must. Last visit, they didn't have Snow Caps (devastating, I know), but they do offer self-serve butter and little popcorn salt cups so you can fine-tune your snack game throughout the film--love that detail. Overall, it's a laid-back, affordable, and surprisingly thoughtful place to catch a movie, whether you're here for the blockbusters or something a little off the beaten path.

We were not happy. The ticket agent at the front notified the manager who came to talk to us, get some clarification on what had happened and see what he could do to remedy the situation. He (regretfully we did not get his name) went above and beyond to make us happy. He had seats and a table moved into an available space, provided ticket passes and numerous other compensation for the missed step in ticket rescheduling. We had a wonderful experience watching the movie in comfort with good food and spot on service. We will definitely be returning. Any establishment that provides such high quality service deserves much support!

Tickets were on the pricier end especially since it was a Thursday night, but not a big deal. The workers were friendly, and the seats were EXTREMELY comfortable & cushy... I still think about them to this day... I also thought it was nice how movie viewers could order food and the workers would come serve it on a platter! I'm not too familiar with any deals or memberships that the River Oaks Theatre may have compared to its big name competitors, but I highly recommend everyone to experience a film here at least once! Also there is ample parking nearby, but can't speak on it too much since I was dropped off.

Tickets are cheap: $30 each. Wine was a rip-off at $20 a glass for table wine (cocktails at iPic are $10). We ordered two glasses without realizing it'd be $40. The bartender had already pour our glasses before we could change our mind (and wish she would have alerted us that for $10 more we could have purchased the entire bottle... So almost $100 later, we are in theater 7 where it was stuffy and hot as hell; people were sweating. I had my jeans rolled up to my knees and eventually went to the concession stand for cups of ice water and they gave me cardboard boxes to serve as a fan. That's just ridic. Def can't blame the staff because they're mostly teens. But management, corporate, and even Nicole Kidman--take notice and fix this stat. For now, we're just gonna go to iPic because you spend about the same amount and for a much more enjoyable movie experience.

Tickets don't open until the day or so before movie. Audio comes on a FM radio channel- car battery needs to be on or bring a radio. We arrived @ 7:30 for a 9:00 PM movie, there was already a line for prime spots but it's worth getting there with about 1.5 hours to give to allow for checkin, finding a decent spot, and getting set up/going to the bathroom (porta potties were quite clean). They have a small concessions stand and one food truck when I went. Ground was wet so had to deal with a not so great parking or walking to the porta potty situation. I attended a night with Dracula at the Polk theatre in Lakeland... and this event was spot on! I was thinking speakeasy, dark, smokey, tables set with candles, nope. White glossy chairs were set up in a fashion that channeled a wedding, sun streaming in, high vaulted ceiling, room painted white, you get it.. I couldn't get in to it. The first cocktail was a blueberry lemon thing. 0 flavor, 1% booze. Pretty much all the cocktails were anemic. The 3rd was awful. Looked like grape Kool-aid & tasted like lemon juice. I skipped the last one. The "troupe" recited 4 short stories by Poe. The energy was up but there was too much schtick, it was not entertaining. Overall, I would suggest avoiding The Haunted Tavern. It will not be $50 well spent.

They're hosting a few different film festivals this year, including an Asian film festival and a Latin American film festival. And they sometimes host Q and A's with the filmmakers, which brings alot of energy to the screenings. Obviously, it comes with the inherent pitfall of any art film venue.. you can see some real stinkers there. But another day, you'll catch something cool and memorable that you would never have seen anywhere else. There are a few cons: First and foremost, it's CASH ONLY and there isn't a convenient ATM nearby. Second, parking is confusing since it's on the Rice campus. And finally, there's no concession stand.
