Well, I paid him the $1000 (cashed on Nov 29th). Checked with Placer County Property Records and there has been no request submitted to lift the lien. So he lied to me and he lied to CSLB. Talk about digging yourself a hole. Will be fun to present this to a judge. I will of course have to subpoena the CSLB agent and put together a presentation on why everything he said and did regarding the outdoor kitchen area was wrong. Nothing new, done it before. I'll post again after trial but I won't settle for the normal small claims judge so it will take several months to get a date.

Overall very happy with Jeff's execution. First of all - his bid for the job was very reasonable and he provided a quote in reasonable time. My builder had his own concrete guy and I am not even sure why that other guy exists in the business because his bid was not only late, it was incomplete and lot of unknowns. Comparatively, Jeff was more thorough and gave the estimate in a very reasonable time. I liked his and his crew's work ethics. They showed up when they said they would. A lot of contractors practice what is I call "book the job" - they will come in one day, move a few things and then disappear for several days. Nothing like this with Jeff - they executed. His crew even worked very late in the evening with rechargeable lights to do the broom finish. While Jeff was executing my job, he became very sick - but he was back on my job for the pre-pour inspection and then getting the job completed even though I could tell he was not 100%. On the final billing - there were a few minor adjustments - all very reasonable for a few extra things that I had requested or for the complications that he ran into on the job. He also gave me credit for a few things. All done very fairly. I have no hesitation in recommending Jeff for concrete.

Because of that, we expected the smaller project pricing to be more reasonable, not dramatically higher per square foot. We completely understand that smaller jobs can cost more due to minimum delivery fees, labor, and equipment costs, but the pricing still felt excessive for the scope of work being requested. After we declined, the quote suddenly dropped from $3,850 to $3,000, which honestly made the original price feel inflated. We felt taken advantage of. Communication was polite, but the pricing process left us uncomfortable and unsure about the fairness and consistency of the estimate. We ultimately chose not to move forward. When i explained this to the owner he accused me of disrespecting him and his business. I meant no disrespect but also explained that if he was not willing to follow CSLB and revise his terms, I was going to pass on his quote and go with another bidder that i had previous experience with. All I expect is licensed, honest and law abiding contractors who do whats legal and ethical!
