Stay away!!! He charged me for foundation repair that he never did. Took advantage of me and I took him to small claims court which we settled and with all my proof he agreed to pay me back. I recieved 2/3rds payment although still waiting on his final payment a year later. I was hoping he'd just pay me back and I wouldnt have to write this but he's nowhere to be found. He likes to be out of the state a lot when you're trying to reach him. Don't give him your time or business, he's a true scam artist. read more

Stay away from Josh Olson of MHS Denver! He came to repair my retaining wall, foundation and sump pump. He seemed very personable and excited to do the work. But, in the end, he not only left me with unfinished the work that needs to be cleaned up, he also took $9000 given to him in good faith for materials. This was a big job with the promise of future work on my property. I've called, texted and emailed him several times over the last month. He's never answered back. What a coward. I am a teacher who has worked 40 years, saving for retirement. This property is my retirement home. Josh stole from me looking me in the eye with a smile knowing my story. What kind of person does something like this? I'm taking him to court. But, I'm afraid, I'll be taking a number as I know of at least one other court case against him for a similar thing. read more

Do not trust Josh. Steer clear. I hired Josh (he owns MHS) to help with a leak in my basement. He did some foundational repairs, and we even sprung for the sump pump he recommended, but was optional. In total we spent nearly $5k, and that doesn't include all the drywall and window wood repair from the water damage. After the repair things seemed fine, then a few months afterward I noticed some more water damage showing up in the same spot. Either Josh mistakenly didn't fix the area where water was coming in, or he missed an undetected area. Ether way I called him as soon as I saw the damage, because as he was so proud to explain during initial repairs, his work was under full warranty. I called Josh a couple times, and emailed a couple times and finally heard back. He stopped by shortly after, and confirmed it was water damage. He said he'd have his guys stop by two days from then to figure out the scope of the project. The day they were supposed to show, they never came. I called and called, and Josh was nowhere to be found. He finally got back to me, rescheduled, then no one came. He rescheduled one more time, and again... no one came. (It's a real dick move to do that, wasting all that time, when I have to assure my schedule allows me to be home and ready for his "visit.") Funny thing is, I'm willing to pay to have the leak fixed again, because we're ok with money right now. I just want the leak to be fixed, that's all! I called Josh because I want the company who originally did the work to pick up where they left off. He's just assuming I'm trying to get the work for free, under warranty, because he never even brought it up. If he'd have just said, "Hey, this looks to be a more substantial job than we obviously thought, and it'll cost more for us to fix it than we originally assumed under warranty... can I offer you a discounted rate?" I'd have been like... "Please, get to work. Let's fix this!" Just be honest, Josh! If you're over promising things to your customers, you need to take responsibility, and not give people dishonest peace of mind. Now, since those THREE times he stood me up, he won't return any communications and I've come to this Yelp page only to just realize, I'm not the only one. They installed a sump pump back in 2016, we're selling our house 2 years later and we get the inspection report back and it says the installation isn't to code. I called Josh and he said he would come down on 11/24/18 and he never showed up, didn't answer any text messages or calls. I really hate to write this review as I think Josh is a great guy and he did a fine job on our basement originally. Unfortunately, when it came down to warranty work, Josh left us hanging. After some rain this year the float on one of two sump pumps MHS installed the year before got wedged, so it didn't kick on. The result was a wet basement. Josh responded promptly and helped my husband pull back some of the carpet and sent a guy to help wet vac. After that my husband removed the padding, rented fans, got things under control and then had our carpet guy replace the pad and put the carpet back down. During the process Josh mentioned that the warranty would cover fan rental, which was no big deal and not something that we would expect him to pay. Josh stated that the only reason we flooded again was due to drainage issues by our neighbors, and while that may be the case, the issue at hand is that the float was stuck and the sump didn't engage. I only know that the float was wedged because Josh told me himself. That makes this a warranty situation, not that there was ever a doubt of that given Josh's quick initial response and offer to pay for fans, etc. I've been emailing the invoice from our carpet work to Josh for months now. I've also tried texting. Ultimately my husband did 95% of the work after the failure, and now we are on the hook for the carpet as well. This is not how a warranty works and the lack of any communication from Josh is really the worst part. read more

LONG STORY SHORT - DON"T TRUST JOSH Had a water leak in our basement Bathroom. Josh came out to help identify the source. I agreed to do an external preventative measure as we both thought it was coming from the outside. Turns out, it was coming from the inside (I'm ok with that - it was hard to tell originally) Josh's team then found the source inside, a plumbing issue, and made a fix. Two hours after he left, the 'fix' that was put in place turned out to be shoddy and broke - sending a niagra falls type gush of water out of our basement ceiling. To his credit, he came back and helped to shop vac up the mess that they created. HOWEVER - he promised to have my carpet (which was sopping wet) re-stretched, as the flood was their fault. He ignored my calls for over a month until I called from a different number, and then blew me off. Tired of waiting for him and knowing he'd never come through on his promise, i have had the job done ($~100). I have sent bills via numerous mechanisms and haven't / assume i'll never hear back. I have opened a BBB complaint to help resolve the situation and am awaiting a response. It's sad that this guy is willing to have his name / business smeared for a measly $100. read more

Horrible experience with Josh Olson and MHS denver. Josh committed to a project that currently remains only half complete. 1 week into the job, one of his employees walked off the job because of issues with Josh. Without this employee, my project slowed down to a snails pace. When I expressed my frustrations about the delays in the project (3 weeks late at that point) josh yelled and cursed and hung up on me. His crew showed up one more day after that and I have not been able to get in touch with Josh since. Do not be fooled by his initial impression. It is a farce. When things get complicated Josh will turn on you in an instant. Google MHS DENVER RIPOFF REPORT and you will find another homeowner that had the unfortunate pleasure of hiring Josh. I've used Josh twice now. First time was a very small amount of water I was getting in a finished basement with concrete walls. I had bids well over $10k and Josh offered a solution for $2k. 2 yrs later, different house and slightly larger problems they did it for a fraction of the price of the bids I was getting. I made a call and spoke to Josh Olson who told me he would be out asap. The next day he arrived and gave an estimate, which I agreed to. The job was quick and painless. I would easily recommend him to anyone who needed similar work done. Edit: Since I used MHS in 2015 I had some cracks start to appear around my foundation in the spring. We are new to the are and finding people you can trust is a trepidatious experience. Moving into a new house always comes with some surprises, and after the first snow, we realized there was a huge leak in the foundation of the converted sunroom addition. We definitely wanted someone local, and MHS fit the bill. Josh came out within a couple of days and after surveying the extensive damage quoted a very fair price based on the research I'd done online. We set an appointment for later that week for the work to be done. Now, due to a scheduling snafu and a personal illness, Josh and his team didn't make the appointment, and there wasn't prior communication. It was simply a no-show. I was able to get in touch with him quickly, and Josh apologized and explained the situation and took full responsibility. His apology felt earnest and inline with the fantastic first impression he made on his initial visit. Now, I'm no dummy. I lined up a second estimate just in case, but John and his team were on time and ready to work first thing this morning. The work was fast and thorough. A couple of items came up during the repair that needed particular attention, and I found the cost to be fair considering I had to have it done. At the end of the job, Josh issues a sizeable discount for the initial screwup. This concession was offered without asking. He is a simply a good person and businessman. I made an appointment for Josh to meet me at a client's property. He was set to meet at 10 am and I waited around for an hour for him. He was a no show, wouldn't return any of my phone calls or email to his site. The hardest part of finding a good contractor is to find someone honest that will actually show up. Josh came to our house to do an inspection within 24 hours of calling him, and was available to complete the work in less than a week. We've had water backing up against our garage and coming into our house for two years, and I wish I could have found MHS two years ago. His team added a second drain with a sump pump to remove the excess water, and completed it in a single day. His crew was friendly, hard working, and considerate of us. If 3.5 stars was an option,that's what i would pick. There is very little info on Josh Olson (aka MHS) online since he primarily works by referral. After seeing this one terrible review (8/29/12), I didn't think it would be fair not to put in my two cents. Our basement flooded repeatedly this spring due to tons of rain and elevated water tables. We hired Josh to install an interior perimeter drain tile system and two new sump pits and pumps. Our experience was mixed. First, the good: Josh was able to complete our job in the time quoted (two weeks) and met with us the very day we called him for a bid. From the time we gave him the go-ahead to the time he started the job was less than a week. This is mind-bogglingly quick. Just as a comparison, Complete Basement Systems was about 40 days out just to have a salesman come hand you a pamphlet. Josh and his employees were respectful, if not completely gentlemanly. They clearly knew what they were doing and showed us the work as they went along. Ultimately, we got a permanent system that should serve us well for years to come and I feel the price we paid for that system was very fair. As I write this, it is pouring rain and my neighbors are still bailing out. Now the bad: Josh and his employees are good guys, but his non-regular hired labor are complete goons. Demolition crew destroyed two interior walls completely unnecessarily, asked us for cash at the end of the day (kids off craigslist, maybe?). His concrete cutter sawed right through our plumbing despite my clearly marked warnings (huge message spray painted on the floor) and emptied his mud into our laundry sink (our poor house has enough plumbing issues as it is). In all fairness, Josh did make both of these issues right in the end, but they were easily avoidable if he had been around to keep an eye on his laborers. There were a number of smaller incidents (employees got in a loud fight in our home, beat up windows & trim, folks smoking cigarettes right outside our open door). Bottom line is that Josh needs to be around more to supervise. And a general warning to anyone getting this kind of work done (especially in a finished basement). Be prepared for wanton destruction. Stuff will get broken (stuff you didn't anticipate). Costs to repair after the fact will be significant. But in the long run, I'm happy with the final result and if I had to do it all over again, I would probably hire Josh. **Update** Some post-review notes: the crew destroyed about 6' of sprinkler lines and a couple sprinkler heads in our yard, and they also badly damaged a window frame in our basement. In all fairness, I didn't point these problems out to Josh so I didn't give him a chance to rectify it. But it's also hard to imagine doing that kind of damage and simply not noticing, if you catch my drift. There was an unfinished portion of the job (burying a sump discharge line) that Josh said he would come back and fix. After leaving him a couple messages and no follow-up, we took care of it on our own. He did eventually offer to finish, but only after reading about it on yelp :) According the the yelp scale, 3 stars means "A-OK," and I think that's a fair assessment of the service we received. There were some issues and professionalism may be a bit below what we have experienced with other contractors, but I am utterly confident in the system that was put in place, and MHS was able to meet the quoted price and time frame. read more

Like so many others in Denver this summer, we found ourselves in need of a sump pump to stop the flooding in our basement. And we wanted it done quickly and correctly. I found Josh and MHS via a reference at nextdoor.com. Unlike the other EIGHT businesses I called to give an estimate on the project, Josh was available to look at our project the next day (everyone else told me it would be at least three weeks before I could even expect someone to look at it). I know some people are suspicious of a contractor who isn't so busy that they can't get to you right away, but I don't agree with this narrow view. In this case, I had no idea how busy MHS was, and frankly didn't care. I just appreciated that he understood that this was an emergency! Josh was confident, friendly, and reassuring when he came out to give the estimate. And when we got the estimate back, we were THRILLED with the price. I did run it by the amazing plumber I use on the large estate I manage, and he agreed that it looked like the right work and equipment as well as a great price. The only thing that made us happier about the estimate is that included a 15 year guarantee. We were happy and ready to move forward. Amazingly, Josh was able to do the project THE NEXT DAY (not in 2-6 months like all of the other companies we called). The installation went perfectly. Josh and his two employees arrived on time, completed the job quickly, and were very respectful of our house, me, and my toddler's nap time. I anticipated a big mess after they left since it is messy work, but they left the work site and the rest of our house is perfect condition. It has now been almost a month since MHS installed the sump pump, and we have had no further water intrusion issues. That is until today when I discovered a major leak into the basement which turned out to be a broken sprinkler line. And this is why I am finally getting around to writing this review: I panicked when I saw the water in the basement this morning, and texted Josh before 8 AM to ask him to come out. He not only responded immediately but was at my doorstep within 10 minutes! We quickly determined the water was coming from the broken sprinkler line and not the sump pump. In fact, I got to see firsthand how well the sump pump was working. It would have been a total disaster in my basement if we hadn't had that pump! But it gets better - Josh not only helped me diagnose the problem, but he helped me get the basement cleaned up and the main water shut off turned off. Total lifesaver, especially since I was carting around my cranky toddler in one arm. I can't tell you how happy we are that we hired MHS to do the job. Probably the best proof of our satisfaction is that we will hire him again to bury our remaining downspouts so that we further guarantee no water intrusion in other parts of our large basement. Simply put, Josh is the single most professional and responsible contractor I've dealt with! His work is immpecable, if something is not right (which may happen from time to time in this kind of work) he will absolutely correct it as soon as it is noticed. If he tells you, he will be there at 8:30, he (or someone from the company) will be there at 8:30, not 8:45 as is all too common for contractors. He backs up his work for as long as it takes to make is absolutley compliant to what was expected. He goes above and beyond to solve your problems and ensuring that you will not experience any of the issues that made you call him in the first place, even if that requires doing work that is not entirely his line of work. He will wanrn you that it may not be his expertise, but if you agree with that, he will do the best he can, which in our case, was much better than what the "expert" had done. I do not hesitate to recommend MHS of Denver to anyone. read more

Gist of this review: Would not recommend hiring Josh. This review is long overdue. It has been approximately 2 years since we hired Josh (owner of MHS) to fix multiple items from basement to grading around our home. We hired him partly because his competitors had lengthy waiting lists and he was willing to start work within the week. Partly because he came across as a nice laid back and seemingly trustworthy gentlemen, and partly because he promised to address all the items on our list for a reasonable price. Much like the other reviews Josh and his crew showed up the day they promised and got to work. They finished the job in a reasonable amount of time and all was seemingly good. The items Josh fixed were as follows: 1) Re-grading on one entire side of of home 2) Re-grading of a problem corner with flagstone 3) Running gutter under a walkway further away from home 4) Fixing a back gutter near the flagstone that was not fully connected to a drain which ran away from the home 5) Installing sump pump The next rainstorm after work was completed we had water enter our home near the corner where the gutter was supposed to be completed and the new flagstone grading was located. We called Josh to let him know about the issue, he promised to return during the next storm and see what the problem was. Well the next storm came around, we phoned Josh to let him know the water was entering again, and we did our own investigation to the issue. Turns out the grading to the flagstone was very poor and water was pooling right near the corner were leakage was occurring. On top of this, the gutter was now gushing water directly into this same corner of the home. We phoned Josh multiple times over the next month or so, leaving voicemails explaining the problems and heard very little on his end. Perhaps a month went by and he responded saying he would send someone over to take a look. When we arrived home we saw that whoever he sent did not touch the grading, but instead very kindly dropped off 2 bags of dirt that retail for approximately $2.50 a piece at your local Home Depot. We never heard from him again after that. My husband ended up doing the re-grading when he found the time and another contractor fixed the gutter issue. Too many posts with a common theme. Signs up for the work, makes big promises (warranties, etc.), does an ok job some of the time, any time a problem arises after work is completed (which seems to be more often than not) he goes MIA. Don't get tricked. The wait to get a real professional to look at the problem is worth it. Hope this helps. read more

Like many of the reviews below I had a very poor experience with Josh. They pretty much all follow the same exact pattern. In fact I had a much more lengthy explanation of my grievances on here previously. Josh threatened a libel suit and I got nervous and removed my review. Of course now I see that Yelp is trying to crack down on business that threaten legal action based on unflattering (yet truthful) reviews. We hired them to raise our foundation and seal cracks. They did not pull permits or get an engineers recommendation to certify the work. He never sealed the alls and the piers where not attached to the foundation. Jefferson county wants to now why this company isn't pulling permits and following the law....... we talked to josh he was rude and threatened us don't hire them they are a scam read more

We are so appreciative of Josh and his team. They were able to provide a great solution to our garage flooding during heavy rains, and they were incredibly easy to work with. They showed up exactly when expected, did absolutely wonderful work, were very knowledgable and friendly, and treated our home as if it was their own. Josh and his crew were great. They were able to come out quickly and the job was done in 1 day. They installed a sump pump, 4 French drains, as well as fixed some hairline cracks that were seeping water in the basement. The crew did a great job cleaning up and was careful with belongings and other items stored near the work site. The sump pump did end up producing too much water and Josh's crew came back out to further route the water to increase the drainage. It was a pleasure doing business with Josh Olson and his crew. The work was expertly done. Josh gave us a thorough explanation of everything that would need be done to take care of our problem. After the work was done he took the time to show us what was done and how to take care of our new system including any future warranty issues we might have down the road. The standing water was gone after the work was done and the system has been working optimally ever since. I had other estimates with long wait times, more expensive and without any assurances it would take care of the problem. Our lower level has been flooded three times due to leaks in two of our window wells. I tried several companies that claimed to repair such leaks. They didn't seem to understand what I needed done. They were only interested in installing new wells, not repairing existing ones. I had suggestions to tear out all of the shrubbery around the house and to completely replace the drain tiles and sump pump. I finally called MHS and they knew exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. It was repaired within a few days and the cost was very reasonable. Our crawl space flooded from a Monday storm, spent a Tuesday evening cleaning up the mess. I found MHS on line from my search of sump pump contractors on Wednesday. Josh was the only contractor to answer his phone !!!!!! That very same evening he inspected the crawl the space and gave us a bid. What was even more IMPRESSIVE was that he had a crew there the next morning (Thursday) doing the job, and it was done by Thursday afternoon !!!!. His crew was friendly, courteous and REALLY enjoyed their job , even working in such muddy, wet conditions. I was very impressed !!!! Josh is a man that is concerned and cares about his customers. Everyone I called was at least 6 weeks out to even get an estimate. When you have water in your basement you want it taken care of sooner rather than later. Josh was able to set up an appointment within the week and (I think seeing how desperate we were) he had his crew out there less than a week later. Even though we were prepared to put a lot more into the basement, Josh didn't feel that was necessary. After two days of straight rain, our basement is totally dry. The crew was helpful and explained every step of the process throughout the day. No "surprise" additional costs, what he quoted was what we paid. Very positive experience. read more

Would give 2.5 stars for service, but have to give full stars... Had MHS of Denver extend a sump pump drainage line to end of my yard. Josh at MHS came out gave an initial quote, but said he would not be there for the actual work and would just send his crew. The quote was a bit pricey considering the materials used, but I agreed. On the day, the crew arrived around on time and got to work. They seemed professional for the most part. They did smoke cigarettes during the work which is not the end of the world, but kinda gross. For the first part of the job I felt they were on top of it and doing great, then they made a run to Home Depot for supplies. It really seemed like it kinda went down hill after that. They seemed a lot less motivated and kinda sloppy when they came back. I had to remind them a few times about a irrigation sprinkler pipe I needed installed at the same time as the sump line. It almost got left out completely. I had to run over and stop them from pouring the concrete. Which leads to the concrete job itself, which I feel was the sloppiest part of the work. They did not put any kind of form to hold the wet concrete, and it oozes from the cut made in the walkway. One of the workers also stepped in the wet concrete when leaving, which I did not see until they had left, which I had to repair myself. The experience might have been better if Josh had been on the job-site and supervised the work. I did not contact Josh to let him know about my issues, as I am sure they would fix it to my liking, I just decided to move on. read more
