This past winter, I had a pipe freeze in the kitchen of my rental property, and it caused a huge flood. The house was vacant, so the water was running for at least a week. We needed to re-sand and re-finish hardwood floors, replace carpet and padding, and redo lots of drywall and painting. Suffice to say, the restoration was a big job. My insurance company connected me with NuBilt, and here's an overview of my remarkable experience with them. I've worked with several contractors with mixed results. True to form, they went over schedule and over budget, and the workmanship was inconsistent at best, shoddy at worst. I had the opposite experience with NuBilt, and they completely exceeded my expectations. They distinguished themselves from their competitors during every phase of the project. First, I worked with Brandon, and based on his assessment and discussions with my insurance company, we established a detailed scope of work and budget. He paid great attention to detail and communicated very well. From that point on, I worked with Omar. He is responsive, knowledgeable, honest, organized, and reliable. He ensured that the work began promptly, that it continued according to schedule, and that it was done well. I never felt like I had to check-in with him or look over his shoulder--he proactively reached out to me periodically. I appreciate Omar's communication style, as well: He patiently answered my questions, and he heard and addressed the concerns I had. I don't want to give the wrong impression, as I had very few concerns. His team was so thorough and captured all of the small touches without me inspecting their work. That said, when a door needed to be hung or a piece of trim replaced at the end of the project, Omar ensured that it all got done quickly and without nickel-and-diming me. His team did an incredible job. The level of workmanship and the quality of the finishes are apparent. The hardwood floors look amazing, and I can't see any seams where the drywall was replaced and patched. NuBilt even sent a great cleaning crew once all the work was complete! I put the house on the market a week later, and a seasoned buyer's agent asked about the insurance claim. I told her that I hired NuBilt to do the reconstruction. That's all she needed to know to be assured that the work was done right. She began raving about the company, and echoed all of their online reviews. Absolutely horrible! OK to be fair, the roofing aspect of our work was completed very quickly, professionally and properly. The rest --- not so much. Poor workmanship from their contractors, repeated issues, several no shows - very unprofessional. We paid half of the total charge and our mortgage company held the other half pending an inspection --- NuBilt had the audacity to threaten to put a lien on the property. It was not our fault - our mortgage company was holding the money. (This is common protocol when it involves a high dollar amount, as was the case with our hail damage). Oh, I also want to mention that the work was officially completed the first week of December and their threat came less than 30 days from the completion. I would NEVER use NuBilt again and would NOT recommend them to anyone. read more

We were thoroughly pleased with Nubilt's work and communication, and would highly recommend them! We had water damage in our basement, and worked with a different mitigation company. The other company was extremely combative with our insurer (with whom WE hope to still have coverage) and generally had an us vs them mentality. They were slow to get started with rebuilding, so we called Nubilt. Nubilt saved the day! Omar's friendly, direct, and sincere communication style helped get things moving promptly and in a manner that helped our family recover more quickly. Our basement actually looks better than it did before the damage! Omar is a thoroughly honest man, and was up front with us about the impacts to budget and timeline on our many last-minute scope changes (which he handled with grace!). He also worked hard to repair the damage done by the other company to the relationship with our insurer. We ended up selling our home, and it was under contract less than a week after Nubilt finished the rebuild. I have been managing the remodel of my mother-in-law's rental home in Arvada but live in SF, CA which certainly complicates things. My wife grew up in this home but I haven't stepped foot in it since my MIL moved 10+ years ago. I first met Nubilt as they were the loss estimators and insurance recommended contractors for some drainpipe damage in the basement. I've always been skeptical of insurance company recommended repair folks because, at least with my experiences with body shops, the company recommended by the insurance company is almost never the best company for the insured BUT instead is the best company to minimize the losses for the insurance company. However, with Nubilt my skepticism was COMPLETELY unfounded and I ended up using them for both the loss claim as well as a larger refresh/remodelling effort to get the house back in condition for re-rental after having a long term tenant. 1) Scott Peck's planning work was impeccable. It's likely because a majority of Nubilt's business is insurance related but they seem to be very, very good at outlining exactly what they do. The closest equivalent I've seen is a contractor friend I've used in SF who is very much a "white glove" kind of service. Yes, you get well documented proposals that show every room and line items for all work being done in each area but you also pay a significant premium for this service. In comparison, Nubilt is BOTH thorough but also quite reasonably priced. I also have a property manager/friend in CO who is also a professional RE agent to sanity check pricing and confirmed the work was done as promised. She informed me that their pricing is competitive with other contractors and she went on to comment that she personally had never seen estimates as detailed as what NUBILT gave us. In the end, I ended up paying NUBILT roughly what the insurance company paid out for some damage to a single bathroom in the basement plus the surrounding family room and ended up with a freshly painted interior for the whole house, new basement flooring, repaired the subfloor in one bathrooms, all bathrooms refreshed with fresh tile and/or new toilets, and a new shower stall in one bathroom. Now that the work is all completed, the house looks "fresh" and ready for rental again without any trace of 10 years worth of the previous tenant's big dogs (not my choice) and general wear and tear from my MIL living there for a few decades before. 2) On the production side, the project manager AJ Patterson was great. Both Scott and AJ understood my desires and made recommendations that suited my priorities (I was aiming for mid-market rental so going super fancy is just wasting remodeling money that would never be returned). If the ceiling in a certain area looked decent enough, noone encouraged me and I ultimately didn't pay for its repainting. In another area, I didn't want to have to replace the downstairs carpet after every tenant so instead of just having new carpet installed to bring the house to pre-loss condition, I had them lay down the laminate wood stuff and paid the difference. We discussed the materials vs labor tradeoffs. Similar decisions were made about paint colors and how to refresh the darker wood accents around the house (floorboards, door trim, etc). Finally, when the shower wall delivery got delayed, AJ quickly let me know and we switched to having his guy tile place standard white subway tile instead. Having gone through bathroom remodels before, I knew what questions to ask BUT these folks also told me about things that I hadn't known (example: when installing an acrylic shower base, pouring concrete to fill the hollow area underneath will give it a solid feel). A shadier company could have cut this corner and most people, myself included, would never have known. 3) Communications were always quick and both AJ and Scott were super responsive. This may be the first real estate property I've had to deal with in CO but given the relative pricing vs CA, I doubt it will be my last. If I need them or any of my friends need a contractor (my wife grew up in CO and went to CU so we visit CO more often than any other state to see friends and family), these folks are my go-to recommendation. read more

My wife and I recently had to deal with water damage in our basement. This involved the full scope of water mitigation, drywall, texture, paint, and carpet. We are incredibly fortunate to have found NuBilt here on Yelp, which once again does not fail us. Ed Longnecker came out and did an extremely thorough inspection, followed by sending his findings and documentation over to our USAA claims adjuster. Our claims adjuster even commented on how thorough and well put together the documentation was. We were admittedly a pain in the butt client; had a ton of questions, comments, and pre-repair concerns. We even gave Ed a call one night after business hours on his cell... The guy was always so absolutely friendly and patient. He literally bent over backwards for the entire duration of the project, to the extent of throwing in a bit of out of scope work for no reason other than to provide amazing customer service. Each crew which Ed sent out did excellent work for each phase of the project. Honestly top notch. Our basement is undoubtedly in much better shape than before the water incident. Ed and NuBilt turned what was a seemingly disastrous incident into a very positive outcome, and their quotes were very reasonable... especially if you "shop around" and compare prices. He communicated to us regularly, was responsive, and worked quickly through any problems there were (hardly any). We were very pleased with our finished bedroom and bathroom. It is better then it was before the remodel. If we did not have a contract with the company we are using for the basement remodel, we would have probably used NuBuilt. We had hail damage to the roof and house exterior in June. Nubilt sent their project manager AJ who said he would arrange for the repairs and get back to me. That was August. After over 6 weeks with no communication from them, I called and talked to a rep. but got no response. Two weeks later, I called again. No response. After I called the insurance company who contacted Nubilt, I spoke with Michelle on October 23, 2018, who belligerently said they would do no work for me, because they had "called me 14 times" with no response. Really! 14 times? This company is not only impossible to work with, they are also dishonest. I wouldn't trust them to do any work for me whatsoever. read more

What started out as a nightmare, literally ( a fire, total loss), has now been resolved and rightly so by NuBilt. When my building burned in a structure fire NuBilt was called to respond for the board up. After some communication issues that resulted in additional work, a few billing concerns arose through the insurance claim process. Though I was very frustrated with the situation, Issa, the manager/owner of the business made sure to address and correct any and all issues with the claim and board. He went to the start of the work performed and communicated with every person on up to ensure that the insurance companies (multiple), his staff, my staff, and all associated persons understood the entire picture. At the end of the day, I know I have someone I can rely on that stands behind their reputation without question. And that's really what matters most. I live in California, but own a condo in Denver and have had to deal with multiple water damage incidents over the past few years. We had a mechanical failure in an appliance which resulted in flooding the main and basement levels to the point of making the house uninhabitable. We started with one contractor that was in over his head and quit after he realized he wouldn't be able to do the job. I contacted Issa and explained the situation. Issa came out and looked at the project and listened carefully to what I was saying. Issa took on the project with an enthusiasm that lifted our spirits. Omar worked our project into the schedule and always made sure the project was moving forward as quickly as possible. We met with NuBilt's vendors and materials suppliers to pick out new materials and were very happy with the options provided. Issa guided us through the process, answering our questions honestly and giving us advice when he felt it appropriate. We followed his advice and we are amazed at the outcome. Jeff and the other crew members worked diligently and professionally completed the work. Michelle kept us on track with the insurance company and made sure everything was taken care of. I'm in law enforcement, and routinely investigate allegations of contractor fraud. Everyone I dealt with at NuBilt was honest, upfront, and provided realistic expectations, provided great service, and treated my family and my property with respect. I never had any concerns that this company wasn't looking out for my best interests in the project. My wife can't stop smiling when she walks into her new kitchen. We used Nubilt for flooding basements( July 2013) at my home and my father's last summer. They were prompt, professional and fantastic to work with. They worked hard and stayed late to make sure more damage did not occur. We were just finishing the drywall and paint in my father's basement when the September flood hit damaging the new work just done. Nubilt was over there immediately, even though they were bogged down with all sorts of damages during this flood. Then this summer, the carpet seam they had fixed after my basement flood was coming out and I was not happy. I called Leah and she was at my house that week. We worked with NuBilt for a shower pan leak and repair. The extent of the damage required a significant restoration of our master bathroom and ceiling drywall in the dining room. NuBilt exceeded our expectations with this project. The contractors and remodelers were always very responsive and were on time every day. They were also honest and professional through the entire process. When they discovered damage to the window in the bathroom, they talked us through all our options and helped us make the best decision (which was to replace the window, and they were able to get this done quickly and did a great job installing the new window). On New Years Day we came home to a burst hose in our powder room and standing water throughout our laundry room and into our family room. The company that we called for remediation was not Nubilt, however I wish it had been. After a long process of remediation, asbestos testing (which came back positive), & asbestos abatement of the flood zone, we were finally ready to rebuild the walls and get the house back to original condition. I used Thumbtack to locate local contractors which is how Nubilt came to us. They bid for our job and came out to give an estimate in a very timely manner. We received 3 bids from different companies and Nubilt's bid was the middle ground. We opted to use them and I'm very glad that we did. I only wish I had known that they do remediation and asbestos abatement so we could have used Nubilt for the whole job! It took a little longer than I would have liked to get the work started. However, Adam, our project manager, told me he wanted a specific person to do the work on our job and he happened to be on vacation. The work was done very well. The rebuild took 2 days, which was very fast in my opinion. We had some carpet work that needed to be done and that scheduling took a little more time because they hire an outside contractor for carpet work. Everyone at Nubilt that we have dealt with has been extremely professional and courteous. Our final invoice was very fair. After a traumatic experience, I was referred to NuBilt. When Gary came to my home to discuss what needed to be done, I felt like he came in and took over the situation. I was upset and not thinking clearly, and he used this to his advantage. He never followed through when information was requested by myself or my insurance company. Terrible experience with these two brothers that own Nu Bilt. One brother is fast talking and tell you all the wonderful work they will do to repair your damage and other than your deductible your insurance will pay the rest. They cut corners on replacements and buy the cheaper version but charge your insurance top dollar. Then they try to charge for work they never done. And their measurements are way off when they estimate costs for material and labor. These two clowns will screw the insurance company and find additional costs that your insurance will not pay for and bill you above and beyond your deductible. Many delays to get the work done with a lot of silly excuses. I would never trust either one of these brothers, their just professional crooks taking advantage of you and insurance when you've suffered a lost. read more

I came home late one afternoon in May during a very big windstorm and found my 40 foot cottonwood tree in back blown over and lying against my house and on my roof. It was after 5 so I didnt know where to begin. I called American family and they gave me 2 names of companies in this area who have done work in connection with their home repair program. Nubilt appeared to have better reviews so I called them and they came out within 2 hours. The next morning they sent a crew to remove and cut up the tree. Glenn the project mgr is the most honest and patient and professional contractor I have ever worked with. I ended up with a whole new roof and all new gutters through his negotiations... much more than I expected. The workmanship by Hugo and his crew (roof install) is great and also very nice cleanup. Jason ( from Cutting Edge Gutters ) did beautiful gutter installation. Jeremy the other project manager is a gem. He called me and kept me informed every step of the way and did some extra repairs for me on his own just out of kindness. I would recommend this company to anyone. I feel so fortunate that I was directed their way. Thank you to all of you at Nubilt who worked so hard to do a good job. You are consummate professionals.
