Communication was great, David even called me to let me know he was going to be a half hour late. Fantatstic work. Would hire again.

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

This is an old brick house and the footings are several widths of brick laid directly on the soil, not concrete. The reinforcement is to pour some concrete walls under the footings to support them and to stabilize the soil walls of the tunnels. They also poured concrete to stabilize another area where soil had been eroding under the footing. We also had them remove an unused brick planter next to the wall. The estimator, Lance Heimes, did a very thorough study of the area and then carefully described to us the recommended work. Because of his attention to detail and good explanations I had a lot of confidence in his recommendations. The work went smoothly and looks good upon completion. The weak point with this company was communication. I had to call them up to find out when the work was scheduled, and even then we were never sure when the workers would show up. They also sent me the final invoice for the work when the work was only about half-done, rather than upon "substantial completion" as provided in the contract. They did finish the work a day or two later, so it worked out OK, although for a while I was worried that they had forgotten to finish the work.

Ted, their civil engineer, came out first to evaluate the issue and walked us through the entire process before any work began. Ahmed and Gabriel were the technicians who did the actual work. They were professional, on time, and great communicators -- keeping us updated throughout the day on their arrival and progress. Once the porch was raised, they took the time to explain and show us the new pitch gradient. The only small hiccup was that the sand color used to match the porch didn't quite blend well next to the driveway. When we mentioned it, Thrasher came back out and redid it with no hassle at all. It really showed that when they say they want you 100% satisfied, they mean it. I've already recommended them to a friend. From Ted to Ahmed and Gabriel, their employees really stand out.

There was no profanity or silliness while they were on site. Give these men a raise. We had a very compromised foundation which required 16 piers. The work was well done as was the cleanup. Not cheap in any sense but necessary in our case. I would recommend also to get a quote from Colorado Structural Repair. Their proposal was actually a little more detailed and it informed my discussion with Thrasher. Either company will do a good job for you.
