If we come back to Barcelona, we definitely want to come back! Our AirB&B was close by, and we didn't really like walking through Las Ramblas (a bit too touristy), so we walked around this area. We had 9PM reservations for dinner, so we wanted to walk around to get little tapas around 6 or 7 and to get some drinks before we go! We just stopped by Mino, and I noticed it had good reviews on yelp! It was pretty small restaurant, but we walked in, and not a lot of people (at 7PM). We sat right at the bar, and the bartender was working something. He was so sweet! His name is Javier; he doesn't speak much English, so I'm also guessing that means Mino isn't a big touristy place! But the amazing thing is -- he tried talking to us even though we didn't speak Catalan or Spanish, and he didn't speak English! He took our order, and did a great job with our drink! I saw the blackberry mojito and my husband got the capiriña/caipirinha. It was on the happy hour menu, and I thought it was going to be a refreshing drink! He ended up spending so much time making our drinks, really smashing the blackberries into the mojitos, and getting the mint flavor into the mojito as well! My husband then asked if we can buy him a drink, and we would all do shot together! He seemed so pleasantly surprised, and he ended up choosing a tequila (great chose for my husband, actually)! Javier only did a quarter shot, but he took a photo with us (and we took a photo with him too, see photos)! He asked why we were there, and he told him we were on our honeymoon. He didn't understand "honeymoon," but we used Google translate, and he was like "oh!". He was so sweet to try to get to know us, and we loved our drinks! We also ordered grilled langoustine -- grilled (4) shrimp/norway lobster on a plate -- also photo'ed. It's so simple -- just grilled, salt, pepper, and some lemon. I never was the type to suck on the shrimp head, but my husband does it all the time. But this time I tried it, and it was SO GOOD!! I highly recommend it!! It was a game changer! I never did it before, but now I feel like I should always do it! I was about to order another order of the langoustine just to have more, but we said we shouldn't eat too much!! But we were off, but we were so glad we stopped by! It was so nice to meet Javier, and when we paid the check, he comp'ed us the tequila shots! Went here twice during a 4 day stay in Barcelona in Nov '19 The atmosphere is very chill and the staff speak English if you need it. The wine is affordable and fantastic, as is the food! We were walking the streets of Barcelona, tapa hopping and this little spot caught my eye as we were walking by. I took a peek inside and loved the charm, dim lighting, brick walls, old fashion wooden tables and chairs. I told my girlfriend, let's give it a shot. We ordered some cocktails (tinto house wine and a mojito). The wine was as expected and on par with all the other little tapa spots in town. My mojito was very good! Havana Club rum with the perfect amount of sweetness and mint. We looked at the menu and decided to go with a few appetizers and the paella. Pan con Tomate(Warm Toast with Tomato) - This is a staple in most spaniard tapas. Warm toast with cut tomato, tomato juice and seeds spread over with olive oil, on point no complaints. Patata rellena - This is a piece of fried potato in a little ball filled with ground beef. The beef was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. The outer portion of the potato was golden brown and fried perfectly the inner portion of the potato was soft with the perfect consistency the blended perfectly with the meat. Paella - We shared 1 because we had been hopping from one tapa to another but I would say it's ok for 1 person to eat alone. The dish came with the signature prawns and mussels with were good, they had good flavor and texture. Several pieces of squid and fish as well. The protein was very good. The rice I found needed a little seasoning, we added some more salt and I found it a bit undercooked but not by much it was still very much quite tasty but maybe needed a few more minutes. We were actually thinking of heading to another place nearby but it was closed (cos it was a sunday). Instead we decided to check this place out. We ordered a croquette dish, pimiento (green peppers) and seafood paella. Hubby toppped it off with beer and I had a glass of sangria. The croquettes were good (but my least favourite dish of the three). The peppers were great and went well with my sangria. Delicious meal! Several other tourists here. Staff spoke English to us. We ordered a bomba and croquettes to start, both tasty, flavorful, and came out in a timely manner. Next that came out were the prawns in garlic oil -- literally. It's not "garlic prawns", it's "prawns IN garlic oil". The prawns were swimming in a sea of oil that was still boiling when served to us. Yum! By the time we were done with the prawns (we took our time), the fidueà (our main dish) was almost ready. I thought it was really tasty! The noodles had a slight crunch and had really absorbed the spices in the pan. For dessert, we wanted a crema cataluna but they ran out of it for the day :( So order it early! Sangria complemented our meal well. I would come back here if I'm back in the city! read more

I came here on a Tuesday night looking for paella, after trying a couple other establishments without paella. Good, prompt service, although the food was mediocre/as expected. There was a nice ambiance, and the restaurant filled up quickly for dinner around 7:30 PM. You don't necessarily need reservations if you get there a little bit early, unlike other restaurants in the area, but one thing that I did notice was that there were a LOT of other tourists... like 2 out of every 3 tables were foreign. Food: 3/5 About average, good Iberian ham, and the paellas (both mixed and seafood) were decent-sized and decent-tasting. Service: 5/5 Very quick service, both in bringing over dishes and asking for water/drinks/check. Ambiance: 4/5 It was very mellow and not too brightly lit, but not too dim either. Lots of tourists is the only thing, and the restaurant seemed a little bit like a tourist trap in the way that it catered to foreigners especially. Nothing to complain about there really, but just wondering if there are other less touristy, more local restaurants which serve decent paellas in the area. This was an amazing restaurant to experience authentic Tapas. Really felt like old Spain. There are many trendy restaurants but we wanted that authentic, old Spain experience and I felt like we got it at Miño! The Mariachi band came in and played...which was a real treat and so fun. My favorite dish was the Pimientos de Padron (Spanish style blistered peppers). We decided we didn't care for Paela - and should have ordered the steak that looked delicious! I've had my fair share of paellas throughout my life, some good and some bad, and I have understood that great paella is found in Valencia, not Barcelona, nevertheless I know that Barcelona eateries can make things happen with the seafood they catch from the Mediterranean sea. After searching for paella spots within Barcelona, I avoided the Barceloneta beach area that is known to have some paella spots but at the same time some of these places are considered tourist traps. I narrowed my search down to Miño, looking at the pics and reading some of the reviews I decided to make this the place I would go to for paella. The restaurant is located around Las Ramblas near Boqueria, it's a small place with old deco, they bring you about 3 menus which one has the pictures of the plates they offer, I was traveling with 2 family members and decided to order the ALL seafood paella, the waitress tells us that the paella is not for 3 people, that we would have to order one paella and then some starters to have a complete meal. After a few minutes of waiting, the paella everyone in the reviews is raving about comes out, a bunch of rice and like 5 pieces of seafood, now to my understanding paella is meant to have a good amount of seafood, this paella only had (yes I counted) 3 shrimps, 6 small mussels and 2 langoustine! That is it! We begin to eat and I'm looking to see if I can find more seafood, maybe it's at the bottom, maybe is at the sides, nope, that was it. The paella itself was ok, maybe the chef was having a bad day or something, but in my opinion it's definitely NOT what everyone is making it out to be, the amount of seafood we got for the price we paid €16 per person makes me think that we paid over €30 for a pan of rice. Would I come back here? No, Barcelona has so many choices that it would make it hard to come back here for an overpriced pan of ok tasting pan of rice. read more

The wait staff was friendly and sat us very quickly. We ordered the mixed paella and tomato bread to start. Somewhat to our disappointment the food was of average to subpar quality. The bread was cold, soggy and chewy despite having sear marks. Now I'm no bread connoisseur but freshly-toasted bread reminds me of something on the polar opposite end of that scale. The paella showed up in about 20 minutes, which is decent IF it was freshly made. The paella basically comprised of pre-cooked meats and under-cooked rice. Now I can say that confidently having cooked all kinds of rice in different continents. But it did have a decent flavor. This was our absolute favorite tapas place on our honeymoon in Barcelona. Unpretentious, just good food well prepared. The gambas....oh the gambas! You have to eat the whole prawn, juicy head and all. SO delicious! Fresh from the sea. Blackberry mojitos are to die for, and of course you can't go wrong with their wine list - or their sangrias. We also had a great caiphirina there. The Iberian ham was amazing, and a huge portion. The paella was excellent. You probably cannot order wrong here - we really wanted to try the padron peppers but they were out - the lesson is to go early! The service was attentive and helpful. If you're looking for a not so touristy tapas/paella restaurant off of the main street of Las Ramblas, check out Miño. Though this restaurant seemed like it was new and still trying to figure itself out, the foundational aspects and its potential to become a popular hotspot one day are certainly there. No need for reservations at this time (though my girlfriend and I made one just in case for a "European" 9pm dinner). Miño's decor featured bicycles and gas cans adorning a distressed brick wall, and a common bathroom with a barn door opened by a pulley system. So hip! The food highlights included a sizable Catalan cheese board, a grilled calamari served over roasted potatoes and a pork short-rib & seafood paella. The cheese board had generous portions of five different cheeses. The grilled calamari was crispy and perfectly charred, and blended perfectly with the soft roasted potatoes below and poached egg atop. Regarding the paella, I had never thought to include short-rib in paella prior to this experience, and now I don't know that I would go without it. The 4-star rating for this place is due to the service, or rather lack thereof. Our waiter himself was personable and accommodating, but had no other person to help him on this night toward the end of our meal around 10:30pm when the restaurant became busier. He was simultaneously waiting on the dinner tables and serving as the lone bartender mixing sangria on demand for the bar crowd. It took him 40 minutes to bring us our check, and not to mention the chef had to come out of the kitchen to help take orders from the other tables! I know Americans are comparatively impatient compared to Europeans, but that's just too long especially for travelers whose every minute is precious. However, I again acknowledge that this was not the fault of the waiter himself, but of poor staffing by management. Hopefully as this restaurant gains momentum and becomes more popular, which I'm confident it will, the service will match the delicious food and charming ambience that Miño already possesses. read more
