You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

After reading mixed reviews everywhere, finally decided to try this place out on a late Saturday…read morenight. Greeted with kind staff, we were accommodated quickly to a table at the back. Ambiance: I have to say, most hookah lounges do not pay much attention to their aesthetics but this establishment has kept it minimal but appealing. They have brown & black leather chairs and marble top tables. The place was filled with clients (both female & males) - this may seem like an odd comment but a lot of hookah lounges seem to attract an older mostly male clientele. My friends and I were very pleased to see a lot of female as we just left another hookah lounge after feeling out of place as it was a sausage fest (excuse my language). The music was on point as well! The hookah it self came with variety of flavors. They had a large selection of drinks (alcoholic & non alcoholic). Points for great indoor ventilation which appears to be lacking at most hookah lounges. It would have been great to have food options. A lot of customers seem to be ordering pizza and eat there.

They kept pointing in our direction and conversing, without relaying any information to us. I don't know if people were showing up with reservations (it didn't feel like it), or what, but we just left. This place is wack. Too bad.
