Making a reservation for a party of 8 was painless. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly seated at our reserved time. They brought complimentary chips and salsa almost as soon as we were all seated. The chips were hot and fresh. The salsa was mild, but tasty (I like a little more spice but this is a good alternative that would probably appeal to most people, it was Mom's birthday dinner and her crew isn't a spicy fan so it worked, there was good hot sauce with the condiments so I threw a few drops in the salsa nearest me and was perfectly happy). We got the bean dip as an appetizer. It was a white queso with a refried bean mixed in...very cheesy and beany and tasty...I recommend. We were there on a Sunday early evening. It wasn't super crowded so your mileage may vary but our whole food had their entrees about 10 min after the appetizer which was super fast, but welcome. I ordered the Special Dinner: chalupa, taco, Chile relleno, tamale, enchilada, rice and refried beans! Only $15.99 a great value and I was counting on having plenty for dinner and lunch tomorrow too! I was a little disappointed as what I was served didn't have the Chile relleno or the chalupa, but instead I think they gave me two tostadas. I was looking forward to that Chile relleno. Overall my food tasted ok. I agree with other reviews that mention that overall the food just lacks flavor. The beef in the taco and tostado just tasted like ground beef, no spice or onion or flavor. It was all fresh...just a bit on the bland side. I'd sum it up as "serviceable" Mexican food. The prices are fantastic and the portions are large so it's a good value if that's a priority for you over taste. The happiest person at the table was my Aunt who said she really enjoyed her chicken and beef mixed fajita taco salad. My brother had the Burrito de la casa and he ate the whole thing and deemed it "pretty tasty." The birthday girl said her beef enchilada was "just right." None of the three are especially adventurous eaters so I'd say this is a good choice for a family group where tastes range. Everyone ordered a fried ice cream for dinner. I'm a bit of a fried ice cream aficionado and have definite preference about how it's prepared (it needs a crunchy outer part and not a tempura bready outside, and if it's drizzled with honey extra points). I waited with my fingers crossed. It arrived looking promising, there was a crumbly looking exterior (not tempura fried so that was a win) but the ice cream coating was not "fried" it was more like they rolled the ice cream in the coating and then froze it. Maybe they missed the step of actually dropping it in a fryer...it think it would have been "excellent" instead of just "good". The restaurant is in an old building that used to be some kind of drive through. It's been maintained "okay" but nothing is especially new or spotless looking, including the bathroom. Summary: Those who just want a serviceable meal will be happy, and those who prefer more complex tastes can experiment with adding the hot sauces offered to help it out. Everyone will be pleased that the food is fresh, fast, and a good value. For what I paid even I am not going to complain that the food needs a bit more flavor...it was fine. Was not a fan I tried ordering a burrito over the phone and was charged $21 when I got there it was because it was a 1499 giant burrito that I was unaware of. Just wanted a regular burrito. I told him that. He said it was a super good burrito and then I would like it. Got home. This is absolutely my husband's favorite place to go for Mexican Food. He loves their cheese enchiladas which come with refried beans and rice. Their queso is creamy and delicious and their chips are fresh and crunchy. The guacamole appetizer is chunky and has pieces of tomato and cilantro, and the freshness of lime. Consistent delicious and friendly staff. The ambiance isn't the greatest but not bad they could use some decorating of the interior a little. However it is has a home town family feel. The food is always fresh and delicious the shrimp dishes are good the tacos on Tuesday are solid I like the crunchy ones the queso is fantastic and the tamales are good. The owners are always trying to make improvements. The cooks are always consistent. The food is delicious. I like your salsa. My wife and I thought we would try Mi Mexico while in Deland. First we were a little disappoint with the service, but kept going. Being from South Texas I am familiar with good Mexican food. I was a little disappointed but as with others places in the area they seem to use less chili and American yellow cheeses with their dishes to satisfy us gringos. Mi Mexico is a hidden gem in Florida for great Mexican food. As someone from Texas who grew up on Tex-Mex the Mexican food in Florida is pretty sad. That is until I stumbled upon Mi Mexico. The food is absolutely amazing, the sign out front isn't lying about how great their fajitas are. This place has no business calling it's self a Mexican Restaurant, now I am spoiled lived in AZ for 20 plus years. The salsa, no spice what so ever, when food came, the beans tasted like licking a cardboard box. I had beef enchiladas, it was ground beef that looked like it was mushed and then left to dry out! Flavor nope, actually no Taste. The enchilada flour shells, were soggy, I don't think they even baked the enchiladas. No Carnasda (beef) on menu are you kidding me, only Carniteas ( pork). The pork my husband had just was tasteless. I gave it one star only because the Chilli Relleno was good, and the drinks are huge. Walking in we had mask, but the host checked our temp on the top of our had, um that is not gonna work. We ate an early so it was that not but not dinner time . Mi Mexico is consistently good food and good service. If you are looking for a fine dining experience then you are in the wrong place. The portions are large, the food and the plates are screaming hot. The sweet tea is really good, somewhat surprising for a Mexican restaurant. Service is always pretty good, sometimes you get someone who is not super outgoing but they always keep your drinks filled and the chips and salsa coming. Is it the best Mexican around? It's a good representation of standard Americanized Mexican food, although several steps above Taco Bell. Service was nice, the place is very clean and open and inviting. We were there for lunch on a weekday and it was about half full. The chips were amazingly fresh and tasty, and the salsa was good but could have used a bit more heat (we later learned there was a hotter salsa we can request). I ordered a combination enchalada and taco and my father got the carne asada. A plate of lettuce, pico, and guacamole came out first for him and the waitress mumbled something about "salad" ? My plate came next, and I picked at it for a few minutes before my Dad's meal came out. The enchalada came in a corn tortilla which was fresh and still soft but not mushy, even under the red sauce (which was good but underseasoned). Both the taco and the enchalada were stuffed with ground beef which could've used a bit more flavor but were pretty good. The taco did suffer from a bit of blandness due to a lack of any topping but iceburg lettuce and queso blanco. A bit of pico would've gone a long way on it. Dad's carne asads wasn't a skirt steak like we're used to, but rather two flat "chops" of grilled beef. Fairly tender, but his favorite part was that they were smothered in grilled onions. They do not skimp on the onions, thankfully. The refried beans were very good, although again, could've used a bit more seasoning. All in all, a fairly decent value for the price. My mother and I went in for dinner here and we had Gabriela as our waitress. She was quick with our food and we never had to ask for anything twice. When we were sat she brought out chips and salsa right when she came to introduce herself. Every employee in the restaurant was wearing a mask, and the table and booth seats were very clean. We shared a meal with a tamale and a chalupa, both came out just as we ordered them and they were very hot. I could tell they were working quickly and efficiently in the kitchen because our food came out shortly after we ordered. Overall, the food and service were amazing, and I will be coming back again.
