This is THE spot for tacos in Volusia county! Fresh corn tortillas are perfect. When trying new tacos I always go with carne asada tacos on corn tortillas with cilantro and onion. They were great. But my husband had a hard shell supreme style steak taco and I am so serious - I came back for lunch today! I couldn't stop thinking about those tacos! The salsa was really good too. I ended up getting extra to have over the weekend. The service is quick and everything is made fresh. I forgot to mention the churro I had. It was hot and perfect, it did not make it home! There was a steady flow of customers at the window both times and the server was patient and friendly with everyone. This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants in the DeLand area. It's a hole-in-the wall restaurant connected to T's Auto Repair and they have been in business for nearly 20 years. You could easily drive right by El Taco Amigo's and not even know they are there. It's not the cleanest place around, they could definitely use a remodel; regardless, they can make a serious taco. The restaurant is quite small, but there are some tables inside if you do decide to dine-in and there is one picnic table outside if you prefer to go that route. Most customers take their order Togo. Pricing is very reasonable and probably some of the cheapest Mexican you will find in DeLand. Nancy and I stopped in during DeLandaApalooZa for a quick bite to eat before going home for the evening. I ordered three fully loaded AL Pastor tacos (marinated pork), and Nancy got two crunchy Carne Molida (ground beef) tacos, also loaded. All this came to less than $20, not bad. We arrived about 20 minutes before closing, so I was a bit worried our meal would be lacking because of this; however, it did not, and everything came out freshly cooked and delicious. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The chef had to make a last-minute change to Nancy's order because she wanted crunchy shells versus soft shells which increased our total to a $1 more, which was no big deal. Something to note that crunchy tacos cost slightly more than soft tacos. All-in-all, this is a great spot to grab a quick meal at a very affordable price. Most of the time I would rather eat at a restaurant like this where you can take your meal on the fly and without breaking the bank. We will be back! read more

This place is the definition of quick service tacos! Came here on a Friday night around 7pm and was able to score seats for a party of four. We order corn tacos of steak, chicken, pork and a side of an enchilada. As we waited for our food, the beers were served immediately. We observed a lot of food traffic coming through the doors which made this place even more promising. Once we got the food, we got to munching. It's everything you crave in a traditional taco -- meat, onion, cilantro and their hot sauce (red and green) are both heavenly. Right amount of heat (the best way to eat tacos)! The only reason I didn't give it a five stars is because the establishment looks a bit run down. It does, however, give it a little more authenticity like it gives off the Abuela's living room vibe. The prices are a little bit sky rocketed for what you get too. However, every small business needs that in order to keep their food delicious and up and running. Best Mexican food I've found in Florida so far! Taco Amigo is the kind of unassuming little shop with lots of authentic items on the menu where you know you're going to eat something good. You order at a little outdoor window, which made us feel safe during covid. We were super annoying deciding what we wanted but the staffer working register was super patient and helpful. She even graciously got them to sub french fries for meat in our burritos so we wouldn't be charged the same as meat eaters without having filling. While the sopes and enchiladas were tempting, I was starved and went with El Burrito (a wet burrito). Delicious and filling. Beans are my litmus test for good Mexican food and theirs were refried very well. I was famished and couldn't even finish the generously sized portion. I was a bit deterred by the fact that it's connected to a body shop; Do not let the exterior fool you, it's 100% legit!!! Not entirely sure where to begin... it was extremely hot inside the sitting area. They have a very old dirty/dusty A/C unit blowing. I'm not sure how I felt about the thought of whatever particles may be flying off of it. When ordering the chicharrones I was expecting crispy pork fat. It was not crispy it was just pork fat. The carnitas I had was the only enjoyable part. My friend ordered horchata which wasn't too impressive either. Needless to say we where a tad disappointed. Next visit I will order from their take out window and it will be carnitas to go. The girl at the window was very polite. ( cold and rainy ) After getting off work all I wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed ( it's 4:30 pm ) I decide I'm going to call this place because I pass it everyday on the way home from work.
