We had high hopes on our first visit to this restaurant, but alas, this will be our last visit too. Here's what we didn't like: 1) We walked in the restaurant to an empty hostess desk, ok, not unusual really, but we waited and waited while other folks piled up behind us. Finally, here she comes hurriedly and seats us at a two top. 2) There we sat...and waited...and waited...and waited. Servers flying back and forth past us, like chickens with their heads cut off it seemed, they were stressed and rushed and seemed weirdly confused. 3) Nobody brought water. I flag one of those servers and ask for water, by then desperately needed. 4) Server comes back to the table after 10 mins. We order the Fajitas for 2. Eventually, what seemed like the cook, brought the dish out to us on a sizzling hot platter, a side of rice, beans, quac, lettuce, tomato and 3, yes 3, tortillas. Zero serving utensils. We wait. Our server was AWOL again. Finally, I ask another server passing by if we could please have some utensils. She brings them after a few mins. 5) We eat the 3 tortillas and 2/3 of the hot platter is still left. Need more tortillas. Have to ask for them. Weird that the dish is for 2 ppl, the price reflects that, and you get 3 tortillas to split between you. 6) Husband ordered a bottled water. Got charged 2.50 for a Dasani water when in reality it was just a generic bottle of water. 7) No condiments on the table, no hot sauce, no salt, no pepper. 8) Piped in music was obnoxious, too loud and annoying. We heard Maniac and other head thumping tunes from the 80s that just didn't fit the atmosphere at all. Decor was half nice, colorful on the walls, but they have those cheap colored paper placemats hanging from the ceiling so nothing special there either. In short, food was just eh, ok, nothing special, but the service absolutely stunk. They really need to get their act together. We went well before any dinner rush and the place was not full by any stretch. I can't imagine what they go through when dinner hour hits but we won't be back to find out. read more

Came for mothers day lunch. The restraunt was laid back and relaxing even though they were busy. Its very nice inside. My wife got the buffalo cauliflower tacos the cauliflower was crispy and delicious. My vegan burrito was exactly what i wanted. My daughter like her taquito. Immediately, the eye candy of the interior design of this spacious restaurant will capture your attention. There are a lot of pretty things to look at, the lighting fixtures, the murals, the attractive colors.... But unfortunately, despite the restaurant being pretty empty around 3pm, we were sat at a dirty table. One member of our party was busily wiping all the food particles and crumbs out of the seats while another member of the party just found another of the many empty tables for our party to sit at. So we changed tables. One member of our party had dirty silverware and had to ask for a replacement. Our server was very, very pleasant! For an appetizer, the Salsa Bravas was ordered. Although the yuca fries were nice and hot, I was disappointed with the accompanying "salsa flight". The "homemade seasonal salsas" were neither very tasty or interesting. The food was plated nicely and looked delicious, but the taste was mediocre in my opinion. Overall, I just didn't enjoy my meal and would not return. Time to praise Dahlia after having been twice for their recently revamped menu. First off - watermelon chamoy salad. Order it. My father hates watermelon, he INHALED this salad. Sweet, salty, savory, a little spicy. We ordered it both visits because it was that good. You can order any of the premium steak sides as stand-alone for $6-8. We also tried the Brussels sprouts which weren't anything special and the chipotle mushrooms which didn't taste anything like chipotle (I don't like chipotle so I would know if that taste were there). The oysters were delicious and well prepared, the bone marrow was good but nothing amazing (the butter was really good though) and the birria empanadas made an excellent breakfast the next day. The carnitas were good, a bit sweeter than I like. The skirt steak with chimichurri was perfectly cooked, tender, and you could really taste the grill char. The molcajete was just ok, the carnitas were buried under a very acidic tomatillo sauce at the bottom and nothing else had a stand out flavor. I did like that the nopales was a whole fresh pad and not the pickled ones from a jar. I definitely recommend anything birria, the steaks, and especially that watermelon salad! read more

I am vegetarian, and the first time I came, I ordered the cauliflower tacos--2 soft-shelled tacos that come with delicious deep-fried cauliflower, fresh lettuce and tomato, and yummy green sauce and a little bowl of black beans (the best part of the dish in my opinion. At $12.95, I thought it was maybe a little overpriced, but to my surprise, it was taco Tuesday, so one of our orders was free. We got 4 tacos for just $12.95. That is very reasonable. I came back a few weeks later, and had the same server, Karen. This time Karen was able to have the kitchen make two vegetarian tostadas specially for one of the members of our group even though that was not a menu item. Being willing to go the extra mile to make customers happy, is surprising to find at a restaurant these days. I deducted half a star because although our first set of chips came out piping hot, they were served with very little salsa. We did get another container of salsa when we asked for it, but the second batch of chips did not taste as good as the first, almost like the oil was rancid. Very authentic Mexican food (not TexMex). Absolutely delicious. The Shrimp Diabla is the best thing on the menu. Suculent perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp in a delectable spicy sauce. "Caramelized pork belly, chipotle honey, green onions, jalapeno slaw, and sesame seeds. Served with yellow rice and black bean puree." Somebody make that into some sort of song, some sort of divine melody. Like that one about the whopper that goes Whopper Whopper Whopper. Port Orange doesn't really have a lot of great restaurants for a dainty flower like me. But Port Orange *does* have Pork Belly Confit Tacos. And that has made all the difference... (By the way if you eat here in person, the decor is going to be like a Dia De Los Muertos parade married a surfer dude who moonlights as a neon salesman in Japan, and then their baby puked on your eyeballs. We stopped in here mainly because we had such a wonderful experience at the Dahlia location in Daytona - this location is beautiful and spacious and definitely shows off the investment the owners have made, this building has housed a number of nice restaurants over the years that surprisedly haven't survived. We arrived a little after noon, the place was mostly empty to the point we thought they may have been closed for the holiday but they were open so we decided to have lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server Karen arrived within a moment or two to take our drink order with a basket of chips and a small bowl of salsa, she was friendly but seemed somewhat preoccupied but got through it. The large house margarita was supersized but somewhat underwhelming, the bottles of Dos Equis Amber were ice cold. The food came out rather quickly and was barely lukewarm which was a little disappointing - unfortunately the food was rather bland as well. The service was okay but no interaction or inquiry to see if we needed anything or if the food was okay after the initial order was placed. The staff only appeared from the back to deliver food and as big as this place is I only noticed two other tables occupied and the bar was completely empty - we were hoping for something better, I don't see a need to return with all the other options in the area unfortunately... read more

Nice and clean establishment with good service. My drink was ok, not great. Was supposed to be a passion fruit mule, I didn't taste any passion fruit at all. It honestly tasted like straight ginger beer. The chips were like generic chips you'd buy from the grocery store and the salsa was ok. I ordered the barria quesadilla. I felt it was a bit pricey for the amount of food. But it was good and the consume was flavorful. Went here on Father's Day, no particular reason just wanted to try something new for Mexican. We had eaten at the one on International and had good experience there. Took a while to get a table didn't seem to be real busy, took about 10 minutes before we were ever approached. Had a margarita that was so so, actually did not taste any tequila in it at all. We both ordered the 3 enchilada plate and had the food actually been hot it would have probably been good, both dishes were lukewarm too cold but given the amount of time we'd already been there we went ahead and consumed about half of each. When it was time to go the server was nowhere to be found we had to get up and go search her out to get our ticket. Probably will give them another chance but seriously for the prices it should be top notch read more

We visited Dahlia Mexican Kitchen this evening with friends from out of town. Parking was easy and we were pleasantly greeted. We were given the option to wait for a table in the main dining area or sit down immediately at a table in the bar. We chose the bar and did not see any noticeable difference other than the service seem quicker. Our server was cheerful and helpful. Answering all our questions, and acknowledged each of our slight modifications to our orders. We ordered house margaritas which were better than most house at other restaurants. Our entrees were a chimichanga, enchiladas, Mexicali burrito and baked enfrijolados. After taking her first bite from the enfrijolados, my wife blurted out, "This is good!" The chimichanga was well prepared and tasty. The burrito and enchiladas were average but not bad. But we have had much better. The fresh guacamole and margaritas were the shining stars of the meal! The bar was full of people and well lighted The noise level was surprisingly low enough to allow easy table conversation. This is a restaurant we will return to and try other menu items. read more

I heard that Dahlia had finally gotten the doors open in Port Orange. We went with high hopes. With both Salsas and La Fiesta less than 3/4 mile down the road this place must know it has to be top shelf to make it once the newness wears off. First downside was the seating. Keep in mind I've only been once, but the 2-person booth we were placed at is TIGHT. (I know, my Yelp catch phrase is "never doubt a review from a fat man." But seriously, I'm not THAT big. The folks down at the buffet don't start sweating when I walk thru the door.) Normally my sexy señorita has so much room we can slide a table a little bit her way. But in this booth, it was tough for both of us to get seated and the table was up against our midsections. So besides uncomfortable it was a little difficult to eat. Next downer was the service. Don't get me wrong, the young woman was friendly. But she just didn't seem to have any experience and probably a lack of training. It showed right away when we ordered drinks. I made the mistake of asking which bourbons they stocked while visiting the land of tequila. She admitted having no clue. When pressed to name a brand (I went with Woodford) she was adamant they had it. Señorita had more sense than I and just asked for the house pinot gris. Our server returned a bit later, no drinks in hand. No Woodford. She said she saw Maker's Mark. I asked what else? She admitted she quit looking after seeing the first one and hadn't asked anyone. OK, guess that's what I'll have. I think someone that's been serving for more than a few days might have taken the time to look a bit further since I'd already asked once. While looking at the menu we ordered the queso dip to go with our chips and salsa. The chips were nice, not too oily and had a nice crisp to them. For entrees I chose the Steak del Mar, listed as a house specialty, and coming in as the most expensive dish at $23.99. As far as quantity of food there was more than plenty. I took some home. The grilled steak was actually more tender than I typically see from a Mexican restaurant but lacked seasoning. The flash fried shrimp were devoid of any flavor. Accompanied from cilantro rice which was ok. Señorita decided to play it safe and went with her old reliable, Carnitas Clasicas. More of the same from her dish, plenty of food but generally underwhelming flavor. This seemed so odd to us because this is a family run operation. We typically find that unlike the chains the mom & pops aren't afraid to take things up a notch in the seasoning department. Not so here. The inexperienced server appeared again mid dinner. She came by wanting to remove items from the table including my queso dip from earlier. I stopped her explaining I may want to come back to that again. Then she asks if she can take back the chips?!? Why in the world would she think we'd want her to take away the chips if we are keeping the queso? Later near the end of our meal she asked us to pick up the dinner plates while Señorita was still eating. Maybe there was a shortage of dinnerware? I'm not sure exactly how long they've been open, but with two other proven reliable Mexican places less than a mile away we won't be in a hurry to revisit. read more

The absolute worst on all aspects. Fast food in Mexican food form. Ask about that fine print at the bottom of the menu that states "Cash price is listed, use of Card has a fee". Called them out on it and they said it was an old menu and they aren't sure why it's still there (sure). Had the fajitas for 2 with shrimp and steak...and it was bland.
