It's BYOB so no alcohol to order but we brought a bottle of wine and they were happy to bring us glasses and also did not charge us a corking fee. I was craving some Italian food and decided to pop by here and check it out. Our server was very nice and we were completely surprised by the amount of food we received. Normally spending about $20 a plate on Italian food wouldn't get nearly as much food as was on our plates. It was delicious! I had the Tour of Sicily, which all the sauces were very creamy and flavorful. We also got the calzone which is even bigger than what it looks like in the photos. I took my wife to eat here and was optimistic after hearing friends mention this place. Upon walking in I noticed football playing on four large televisions which was more consistent with what I'd seen in sports bars. After sitting down and ordering I immediately noticed the huge chip on my plate and noticed them on the others as well. It was at this point I became skeptical. After about 10 minutes we were presented with our bread which looked good but was under cooked once we opened it up and noticed how doughy it was. I had ordered the cheese lasagna and my wife had ordered the "Pasta Sampler" which was supposed to aplenty be 3 different pastas I think. Once we got our plates I was deeply disappointed by the way our plates looked and honestly couldn't tell which plate was which. Both plates were served in a bowel type dish and were drowning sauce and cheese. My wife and I both agreed that for over 50.00 our dishes should have looked better. As we were getting ready to pay the cashier asked if we were ready to "Cash Out" which to me sounded like bar lingo. The sausage dish was super yummy, came with tons of pasta. The chefs combo plate was enough food to feed a village. All kinds of ooey gooey cheesy goodness. The calzone was bigger than football. No joke. It was served with their house marinara which so tasty as #$&@!!! We asked for seconds it was so good. Robust, tangy and super bodied. Taste like it was simmered for hours...just how a good pasta sauce should be. All plates came with a side salad or a bowl of soup. Today's soup was chicken Florentine. It was delicious. Actual boiled chicken - made the broth amazing. And the side salad was not side at all. It was a big plate of salad. The entire meal is served with complimentary garlic buns - which are outstanding. Get the spicy oil dip for sure. Our waitress was Josie. She was so kind and friendly. Brought everything we asked for super fast and didn't mind bringing us extra things. While this place is not an upscale restaurant, it is worth every penny. Very cozy atmosphere. Diner style. Waitresses are clearly very experienced. Meals range from $10-15 on average, but it should be noted that each meal could easily serve two. I came here for lunch with my mom and we ordered spaghetti with meat sauce to split. They brought out for us two GIANT plates of spaghetti, neither of which we finished. I don't mind.. dinner for later! Definitely not "date" material, but if you and your pal are looking for a cheap meal to split, this is the place. My husband and I went on Saturday night. It's a lively place and busy. It has fabulous wall murals of various places in Italy such as the canals of Venice and Rome. We were greeted right away and seated very soon after that. The menu was very extensive with lots of choices. Our server Karen was quick and attentive. We started with the calamari which crispy and plentiful and brought out quickly after placing our order. We followed this with their chicken Florentine soup which was flavorful and promptly served as well. I ordered the Tortellini which was creamy and a sizable portion. So, after reading several Yelp reviews about this place including a fair amount of somewhat negative ones I decided to try it anyways. I'm very glad I did! Being the Italian food fan I am, and wanting to find somewhere good in Odessa I landed on this place. I must admit I did look into a couple other review sites simply because there just aren't many choices in Odessa for Italian food. Mi Piaci is the top choice of all of them. I ordered a calzone and it was very big, and amazingly good! Probably the best calzone I've ever tried. It had the perfect mix of ricotta, and mozzarella cheese. It also has ground beef on the bottom, and very flavorful marinara sauce "on the side" as it's supposed to be. I experienced no waiting, and very good service from beginning to end. The restaurant seemed to be clean and kept well. I am eager to return there and try other things, and I most certainly will next chance I get. There is something holding me back from giving it 5 stars and I am not certain what that is. However, if I am really wowed after my next visit I'll update the review and do so. read more

Mi Piaci makes some really good Italian food but falters in other areas. If they would change a few things, they could easily be worthy of a four or five star review. I came here a week ago for dinner with my parents and my girlfriend who was visiting the Permian Basin for the first time. The decor of the restaurant could use a little work. There was a door leading to a private section of the restaurant that had quite a bit of paint chipped off of it. This is a fairly simple fix that would make the place noticeably nicer. Also, they lined the divider between the booths with empty bottles of wine. This could look classy if done right, but they used empty bottles of $5 wine that hadn't been cleaned out, so it just looked a bit trashy. While our server was friendly, she could have benefited from some more training. When we asked her what the soup was that came with the meals, she said, "Uh,...something with chicken, I think. I'll check." She never checked. Also, when she brought out our food, she handed us the plates instead of placing them on the table. There wasn't any reason for her to do this. Lastly, they forgot to place cutlery on our table, so we had to ask them to do this. Again, all of these problems are easily fixed with training. Our food was very good though. They bring every table a large basket of freshly made rolls which tasted really good. Most of the meals come with a soup or salad. Because she never told us about the soup, we opted for salads. The salads were nothing special, but the vegetables were fresh enough. Based on my mom's suggestion, I ordered the calzone. That was a surprise (see picture)! The calzone was eyebrow-raising-ly large. I'm not normally one to take pictures of my food, but I had to get a picture of this thing. Don't worry; most of the inside is just air and it deflated fairly quickly after I cut into it. Taste-wise it was just as good as it looked. I ended up getting two meals out of it. In fact, the portions for all of their meals are very large, so all of us had leftovers. The last thing to mention about Mi Piaci was that it was awkward when we paid for our meal. Our server took our check, rang it up, and brought back the credit card. Then she told us to take the receipt to the register at the front. She could have either told us to pay at the front, or she could have given our signed receipt to the person at the register herself. We were searching for Italian so came here. The bread rolls served at the beginning were the best part of the meal. I could have eaten those all day. Keep in mind if you want any of the oil for dipping the bread like many Italian places offer- it's a little over 4 bucks. But really the bread didn't need it. They do serve huge portions, so you will fill up. The entree food was not all that great though, which is surprising. I got the tour of Sicily. I would call it so so. My spouse said the same of his meal. Part of the problem is they put so much sauce you can't even see the food. Prices have increased quite a bit since we last ate here. And though the bread was good it would have been better if served with dipping oil, which when inquired about, told it would be an upcharge. My BF ordered the slice of Meat-lovers pizza, because we could never get a sufficient description of what the "plain" pizza contained, even after asking if it was just cheese. BF said it was way too salty, and horrible tasting. He only took 2 bites but when waiter didn't offer refund or replacement, we took it and other scraps home to throw out for feral cats who hang around.
