I love butterflies and we were driving by and saw the butterfly on the building so we had to stop and try it. We started with chips and salsa. Also got a small side of queso and oh my goodness, they have the best queso around! I got the taco salad with chicken and added pico de gallo and queso on top and it was delicious! I ate every bite! This is a local staple in shelby. I've had so much on the menu that it's ridiculous. From the mango shrimp, to the quesadillas, to the la favorita, and of course my new go to The Mojarra!! It's a lightly breaded tilapia! It was fried well, it could have used a tad more seasoning. The guacamole salad was fresh and crisp!! Very much appreciated to get a bite of freshness! A lot of people in the Shelby area really like this place, and since no one wanted to cook on a Friday night we decided on take-out. I looked at the online menu and the torta looked fantastic. When my husband brought the food home all I could think was, "Did they mess up my order?" Nope, this is their torta. I was absolutely disappointed. It was a very thin slice of steak with gobs of mayo and lettuce, a slice of cheese, two tiny slices of tomato, and a little bit of avocado. It was just as bad as you think it could be. I only ate half and threw the rest of it away. We also ordered the chori queso, which was really good, and saved the meal. My daughter had the cheese quesadilla and she loved it. Overall the food wasn't bad, just the torta was a total bust. Might hit up a few other mexican restaurants before I try here again. read more

The manager doesn't seem to understand that 90% of the customers like the food but don't understand the music. To the customers, it's loud noise that we have to yell over to be heard, and every time you go in, it's even louder than last time. We understand that it makes the meal authentic, but they have to understand that we dont speak spanish, so its noise to the patrons. read more

The service is top notch and they don't miss a beat your drinks are refilled before you run out. Salsa and chips brought before you even have time to settle in. We came hungry and ready for authentic Mexican food. At first I was skeptical since we are in fact in Shelby North Carolina, not typically known for a lot of Mexican choices when it comes to food. The restaurant is huge, even with a party of 15 we were seated within ten minutes. Chips and salsa lined the table within minutes of being seated. Drink orders were taken quickly and brought back just as quick. After looking over a pretty extensive menu we placed our orders. Around the table we ordered: -Build your own burritos- large and in charge. Filled with whatever you want, add the queso sauce on top and thank me later. -Taco Salad- hard pass. WAY too soupy... I don't know what the liquid was but yikes -Fajitas- we had chicken, shrimp, beef, and veggie. All sizzling hot and all tasted as should. -Tacos- literally meat and tortilla. Came with a side of rice and beans which helped. Craved veggies! -Tequenos- while good, least amount of food. Overall it was a good lunch and half of us got boxes because the portions were large. I was in Shelby for a work trip. Our coworker suggested Mi Pueblito for dinner. There is a large menu with your usual Mexican favorites as well as some specialty dishes. I ordered La Favorita which has grilled shrimp, chicken, steak, and veggies served over rice with cheese sauce. It was similar to fajitas over rice. Very good. The only complaint we had was that it took a long time to get our check. However, they were pretty busy for a Wednesday night so I'll give them a pass. Okay. Mi Pueblito is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. There are things about this place that are polar opposites. Probably the best things it has going for it are the location and the space itself. The restaurant is located in Uptown Shelby in a beautiful gentrified brick building. When you view the exterior, you think, this place must have some awesome food. The space itself has a great patio and inside lots of dark wood with a nice bar. Weekends they actually have live bands play. They are always packed and apparently have a very loyal clientele who probably will greatly dislike my comments on the food. My visit yesterday quickly reminded me why I almost never eat there. (Note that all of my pictures look like the same dish, even though they are three different dishes). Our waitress was very nice and friendly. The floor was very dirty, even under our table. The menus had pieces of food/cheese stuck all over it. I had the Enchiladas Suizas - the chicken was extremely dry and flavorless - there was a generic orange/brown sauce on top. Suizas are Swiss style and supposed to have copious amounts of a cream like sauce - none could be found. It was served next to small portions of "sad" looking rice and overly larded and pureed/whipped refried beans. My mother's Chile Poblanos weren't much better and had an aftertaste of something having been freezer burnt. The best thing I had was my Dos Equis draught. Even the salsa appeared to have been blenderized, non-seasoned canned tomatoes. So, unfortunately once you've tasted great Mexican Food (like Cantina 1511, RuRu's and Bakersfield East), bad Mexican food tastes even worse. read more

This was actually one of the worst spots I've been to in a while. Don't normally say anything but my chicken burrito had zero chicken, asked for romaine, got spinach, asked for sliced avocado, got the tiniest amount of guac. Another meal asked for extra cheese for their meal and got charged $6.75 for queso which they refused to remove from the bill. The ACP was served on a salad plate, super small portion and was $9.75. Service was awful, took us over An hour to get our food and when we said something , we were told to look at the menu when ordering. Server and front staff all extremely rude. Not a great look.
