Food was amazing! Best we have had since our trip to Mexico! My husband had the camarons al ajo (citrus and garlic shrimp), and I had the fajitas poblanos (chicken with homemade chorizo and poblanos with a rich creamy sauce). Andrea our server was so sweet and attentive! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Try the loaded yuca fries!

    Interesting and inviting fun decor!

From Route 74, look for the square building with a colorful mural on its exterior for the first clue of your experience inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The colorful, groovy interior is inviting and the menu extensive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted and seated quickly and within moments had a basket of fresh chips and sauce. The food was presented attractively and was very tasty. Overall, a great stop with value and flare to spare!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Service and Ambiance was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was so so, nothing to write home about, presentation was beautiful, taste wasn't all there and it was greasy, which you don't expect from Mexican cuisine. I got the Quesadilla Rellana, my husband got the Fajitas Texanas, my children got shrimp and fries and rice and beans. Trying the one in Lincolnton I thought this one would be up to the same standards, I was wrong.

We enjoyed our meal at Cafe Azul. This is a new restaurant in Shelby (staff said they had been open about 5 months.) I ordered the Pescado C-AZ minus the shrimp due to shellfish allergy. It was well prepared, artfully presented with an edible flower and was delicious. I would order it again. My husband had a chicken, steak dish presented in a 1/2 a pineapple shell with a side of tortillas and it also came with rice and beans - probably would have been better to share as he could barely finish it. We also ordered the guacamole which is made fresh when you order. Timing was a little off on this as we received the guacamole without chips but they remedied it quickly when we asked. The decor is Frida, Frida, Frida as it states her home was the inspiration for Casa Azul. Music seemed loud and odd for the decor and restaurant's theme, but others may enjoy. Seems like they are going for a date night vibe. We were there on a Thursday night so we didn't wait long for table or service. Wait staff and manager we encountered seemed engaged and friendly. We will try again in the future.

They are always so Fast and service is delightful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambiance is so beautiful and decorated well[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and i always clear my plate after every visit! Best Mexican restaurant in shelby

Check in. Got a beeper. They called us within the time. Then sent us back out, because they selected the wrong beeper. Waited. Then called us. Chips: basket is small. Chips are cold and stale-like. My guess, not made onsite. Second basket was warm. The servers are friendly and busy. The busyness affects the service. The salt, which the chips desperately need, doesn't come out of the shaker. Eventually the shaker worked. Ambiance: well it's extra. Food: Above average. Flavorful. The food was not hot enough for me. We will come back. Considering it is Shelby, it is an average to good restaurant.

Burrito Texano - shrimp, chicken, steak. Yep I'm going back.

One of their salsas has some heat which gave it an enjoyable tingle for my taste buds. Dinner options are broad. While my family got chimis and quesadilla (which were good) I enjoyed This and That, with 2 spicy crabmeat and shrimp burritos and 2 chicken flautas. What a great variety of flavors you n one plate, again with a little bit of heat. I didn't partake in the drink menu this visit but they offered traditional Mexican soft drinks and of course margaritas. Started our catch up session with a couple of brews and their salsa, I'll call it a flight - medium, a tomatillo verde, and a spicier one - delightful. Their small cheese dip was also great - next time I think I'll try the Spinach Cheese dip but needed a baseline to taste first. I got the chicken and chorizo which was also great, and the chicken fajitas came out sizzling hot! Our server was such a delight, we let her know it was the middle for us to meet and couldn't believe we had both driven 45+ min but was grateful we did and even made recommendations for when we come back. We enjoyed their outdoor seating and had a great time with good food.

There is a candy stand at the desk too. The service and attention to detail was amazing. The fooooood was a big star. I am on a mission to branch out and try a lot of new food this year, and today that included a bit or two of each dish ordered- An ACP dish, a burrito, a steak taco, spicy sauces, queso and chips, and my actual order- the pupusas. Everything- was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the pupusas- which I hear may be a salvadorian influenced dish? The shrimp in the different dishes was cooked perfectly- which I know from my various excursions and attempts in the world and my own kitchen- is not a guarantee. Accessibility notes: FULL stars. Various seating and options, tables and booths, room to navigate comfortably. A small ramp outside on the curb. And the bathrooms were actually fashioned correctly- in the handicap stall the bars were in the right places and at the right heights- as was the toilet paper holder- no bending necessary to access it seated. The door to the restroom was not too heavy either. Very refreshing as this is often a chaotic messed up set up at some place. We came as a group, for a friend lunch date after thrifting and we had a fantastic time! So happy and we will definitely be back!

It took us 30 min to even put in an order after I asked the waiter (named Terrell W on our check) we were ready twice. When we asked to split our check our server said " it's easier if you just split it yourself because I have things to do". When asked what he had to do considering the place was empty he said he rather go home with an insanely rude attitude. Beside the service the food is INSANELY overpriced which fine we're in downtown AVL but in the very least if we're paying $6 for a tiny taco I'd expect it to be good. Every taco (the steak, pork, and chicken taco) tasted as if an entire container of salt was poured on it. Absolutely inedible. Unless you want to be bloated for two hours after eating three small tacos and treated like garbage, I suggest you avoid this place at all cost. Its no surprise this place was completely empty at 7 o'clock on a Saturday. I won't be coming back again. Management should really reconsider their choice in staff if they're planning on staying open much longer. Edit: as we were walking out Terrell yelled at us "I hope you never come back here again!" I went back to tell the manager which Terrell hearing me said " yea I said that." Manager did nothing. This place is disgusting in more ways than one. One star is too many for this place.

Typically, mall food tends to fall somewhere in the middle--either just okay or forgettable. However, this restaurant completely exceeded my expectations. The food was served very hot, very fresh, and incredibly delicious. The portion sizes were also generous, which made the value even better. Everything tasted well prepared and satisfying, especially for a mall setting. The service was solid overall. The associate helping us was friendly and attentive, though he didn't seem to know the full menu and had to turn around and reference it a few times. That said, it didn't negatively impact the experience in any major way. One of my friends in our group had an issue with his order, and I was genuinely impressed with how it was handled. They immediately corrected the mistake by making him an entirely new meal and even allowed him to keep the original one as well. That level of customer service is not something you see often, especially in a mall food environment. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely--without hesitation. I would recommend it over many other dining options in the mall. If you already plan on visiting the mall, this spot is definitely worth your time. I was also told that they have a brick-and-mortar location outside of the mall. If you're not a fan of mall dining, I would highly suggest seeking out their standalone location instead. Based on this experience, it's likely just as good--if not better. Overall, the restaurant space was very clean, well organized, and clearly well maintained. Do not hesitate to try this place as soon as possible--it easily outperforms many of the surrounding options and is far better than what you might expect from a typical mall restaurant.Honestly, this particular place exceeded my expectations even more because the meal also came with free tortilla chips on the side, which was a nice and unexpected bonus.
