This is a great example of a neighborhood tienda. They have a huge selection of both American and Latino products. There is produce and all the other necessities you may be looking for. The lunch counter up front is one of my favorite places for Latino food. They sell about 13 different types of pupusas, many of which are vegetarian. They are made fresh. Also get all your favorites from tortas to carnitas by the pound. The parking here can be a little tricky in the front, but there is a lot in the back that I don't think a lot of people know about. read more

It is interesting to read reviews for a place like this, and how cultural backgorunds affect those reviews. I will agree in a few things: This store is not pretty. It feels croweded, you can't walk the aisles with a cart (that is why I use a basket). Employees speak more Spanish than English (they are not rude, like some people say). One more thing, the prices on national brand grocery items tend to be high, and they sell small packages. Parking lot is nuts. These are all the reasons why they don't get five stars. Now, let's get to the good stuff. I am from South America, and have lived here for 25+ years. This is one of the few stores where you will find imported products beyond Mexican products. Due to the size of the Mexican community, Mexican brands are quite available everywhere. But Peruvian, Central American, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, Colombian foods, not so much. To my fellow suramericanos, here is where I get the passion fruit pulp, the banana leaves for my tamales / hallacas, the Peruvian rocoto and choclo, aji amarillo and blue corn. Also the Venezuelan harina pan, crema, cheese, cocossetes and torontos. I am sure every other country finds something that means a lot to them. One more thing: When you see produce on ethnic stores, it might not be as beautiful and shinny as in the regular chain supermarkets. It might be a bit bruised, but it is very delicious and sweet, as I think they understand the process of ripening much better. Example: Decent papayas and platanos machos (for frying) that you won't find anywhere else. Ah, and lots of herbs: epazote, culantro, hierba buena, etc. And because we use a lot of produce, their produce prices are very reasonable and they have it in abundance (a huge bin of jalapenos and poblanos vs. a tiny tray at other places). The meat, again, is a cultural thing. The cuts are different (same animal, cut and presented in a way that is familiar to us, and with the names in English and Spanish so you know what you are getting). So, if you are in the search for these specific gems, you can come to this store. For all other stuff, I go to wholesale clubs and save some $$$. If you are not a Latino immigrant, but want to get inmersed in the culture, this place is like a field trip to a Latino little store abroad. read more

This place is awesome! The older reviews about the layout aren't true anymore, I shop with a cart through the store. Huge selection of fresh produce and a giant butcher area with all kinds of meat!! The cooked food is delicious, I love the street tacos! It's true they speak mostly Spanish at the counter but the checkout folks speak English if you need help. And pretty rude to go into a traditional Mexican market and complain that they dont speak your language. I'm so happy to have this place just a few blocks from me! read more

The parking lot drives me crazy, but after that, everything else was fantastic! The peppers are plump and fresh, the seasoned Carne asada tastes delicious, the homemade corn tortillas all fabulous! You need to get out of your comfort box people and go experience some culture. There are numerous different cultures in Denver, but Aurora probably has the most! Oh how I hate leaving a negative review but if there is a chance it will make a business better I will. First off, the layout here is TERRIBLE. This was my first visit and I'm probably going to say last. I came here since a friend shared they have amazing and authentic Latin American foods here. I drove there with the thought of stocking up my fridge with lots of stuff so I grabbed a cart and as soon as i open the door I realize I cannot even bring the cart inside unless I actually carry it. Ok, no biggie. Second, the instant I walk in I am completely lost and confused. There was no open space to walk in, literally. The cash registers are so close together there is no lane to walk through. I almost felt bad for getting the cart because once I did make it through the grocery lanes are so close together all the people have to squeeze through. My time there wasn't all bad because I made conversation with people shopping there who so nicely explained some fruits that I'd never seen before. They were so lovely and kind! Please change your layout! All your customers were struggling including the elderly. I had to help some move their carts because there were fruit boxes on the floor in the already small passages blocking the way. Besides this they have a great variety of fruits and food that I am excited about trying out. It just makes me sad I won't come back because it was THAT uncomfortable shopping here. read more

The great thing about this place is it's not just a Mexican carniceria. It has latin food too off to the side in a little restaurant. Thank you Lord!! It's always packed here and I'm lucky if I can find a place to sit and eat. We love the carnitas to-go. So fresh! You may have to battle a line that stretches dangerously out of the parking lot into a busy section of Colfax, thus risking your very life, just to park. But once you do, you'll be greeted by the ever present musician(s) that hang out and play in front of the doors. (Top that, lazy American grocers! ) Inside they have a plethora of fresh veggies and an impressive meat counter. The prices are low and the staff incredibly helpful. And yes, they are all bilingual for the convenience of the gringo shopper. If you are too lazy or inept to make your own yummy foods from their fresh ingredients, they have a small restaurant too. Here you can buy a meal or pints to go of stuff like fresh salsa and house made beans. This is the only place I'll buy avacado. They have the smaller, brown ones that are ripe when you buy 'em. No waiting to make that guacamole for days. 2 for $1. While I'm there I also must buy their fresh made tortillas and tortilla chips, and if I'm feeling naughty, a bag of chicarones. Mmm, fried skin. I love the variety of items that they have at this market. From pastries to street tacos! There's a restaurant that sits next to the bakery, that I have yet to try it. I love the deals they have on produce here, sales are usually on Thursdays. The staff is very friendly and welcoming here. Completely rockin' spot on East-East Colfax. Not just a Latin grocery, not just a great carniceria, not only a freshie-fresh tortilleria, but as good a quick-serve, latinolicious eatery as you'll find in the city. Lip-smackin' chile verde, menudo, caldo, burros, tacos, pollo entero, killer carnitas, Salvadoran pupusas, Mexican tortas, and a bigger menu than most taquerias. The chefs prepare it all right there in the open-air kitchen, while you watch. Freaking cheap for a gigantic amount of grub, and, a relatively good sign of the good stuff, I've yet to hear a word of English spoken anywhere on the premises. This place is decent. I stop by because it's right by my apartment and if I'm hungry I'll come here for convenience, but I try to avoid it. Nobody here speaks English very well and the place seems sketchy. There's a presumably bootleg DVD stand as well as Spanish speaking lawyer ads all over the place. Employees at their restaurant side are extremely rude. Nobody seems to speak English and I felt that I was treated very rude and unfair because I did not speak Spanish. I ordered pupusas to go and it was not easy to place an order because the cashier kept asking me something in Spanish which I did not understand. Then, the cashier said something to a customer behind me (spanish speaking customer) and laughed. I felt that she made a comment about me to this guy behind me, probably making fun of me. I finally managed to order and waited for my food to come out. The people who came after me got their food but mine did not come out for a long time. I don't know if they take extra time to service non-spanish speaking customers or what?! The food is not spectacular but decent, so I would go more often if they could treat their customers equally nice. Bakery and grocery side employees are okay.
