It came to my attention yesterday that some people don't know about Mi Tierra's cafe or their taco tuesday. Let me say that louder. CAFE. TACO TUESDAY!! On Tuesdays, tacos are $3 and fish tacos are $3.50 And they are effin GOOD. Jeebus they are good. I got the fish taco grilled for the first time yesterday. It was all I could eat. I'll be visiting for that more often. Even at full price ($5) that's a steal. IT WAS SO GOOD. They also have cheap, high quality meat. Which, in this economy, is a frikkin' god send. I go here for the meat a lot because I'm broke. And they are always so nice. I've never had any experience here where anyone was even approaching rude. Also, I am very shy about my bad spanish. But often, I'll try in Spanish and they will be patient with me about it. And I love them for that. They'll switch to English when they can tell I don't understand. (It's actually usually just me thinking. I think slow, lol.) Yeah. Lots of words, sorry. They have good meat. They have good tacos. They're nice. read more

I love going here to Mi Tierra. It makes me feel as if I am in Mexico. They have a little taqueria in the back of the grocery store. My husband and I have been getting the fish tortas, which are big and we often share, here for ages. But recently we started to get tacos on Taco Tuesday. OMG. I think these are the best tacos ever. You get three tacos, loaded with your favorite filling, meats are great, lime and radishes, nice green salsa, and so cheap! Very friendly place. Great market too. I read more

This is an authentic oasis in the middle of a college town. Showed up on Saturday looking for tripas( beef intestines) to make Super Bowl tacos. Tripas were frozen but they were of good quality, they also sell wonderful chorizo and many other meat cuts. For the size of the store it has many different things, Yerba mate, pan dulce , harina pan and much more. Staff is quite friendly, but I probably need to return for some tacos, they do have a taqueria on site. Definitely worth going 5/5 read more

When I was trying out cooking various recipes while living in the Berkeley/Albany area a number of years ago, I was having trouble finding some ingredients. Mi Tierra Foods is one of the places I went to look for a few of the items I could not find at the local supermarket. I was successful here in finding item(s) on my list, however not everything. The offerings in the bakery and meat sections were varied and well stocked. Checkout went without hiccup, and the workers were friendly. Parking in the area was mostly street parking. There was a person sitting out front asking for food, though only if it was vegan. Personally, that did not have a strong impact on my experience. read more

West Berkeley has a great Mercado on the corner of San Pablo Ave. and Addison St. This just might become my new goto Produce place (next to Monterey Market that is) as you can get the basics for way cheaper than you would otherwise grocery stores like Safeway & Andronicos. They also have a good selection of items you just can't get at a "gringo" store! They also have great area for a quick bite to eat as well sell the cooks meats like Carne Asada and even Birria (on the weekends)so you can get it Take Out style and make you own tacos and etc at home. It's a little pricey but well worth it to me as I found out a lot of restaurants won't just sell you the meats by themselves and only on their menu dishes so this place stands out for that! The parking in the back is limited so I like to go there on the weekdays as it can be a challenge in that part of town on the weekends. Overall this place stays on my "goto" list when I want to make "my own" at home but too lazy to make everything from scratch! read more

If you're looking for South American good from crisps, sweets, drink this is the place. I was looking for Harina P.A.N. to make arepas and saw this recommendation. Not only I found that but i found snacks and stuff that I'm able to find in Colombia. One of the best plantains to fry are here. There's a section by flags that let's you know what's what. There's Argentinian Yerba mate, Peruvian goods, and the more common Central American and Mexican products as well that are prevalent in the region. The shop seemed cleaned and well kept. There's a butcher shop and a place to order food to go. Service was direct. Nothing special. 51A, 72, 72M, 72R AC Transit all have easy access to the store. Service 3, friendly but felt judged and Food 3, $15 super burrito that was supposed to be chicken, but was 97% rice and beans, 1% sour cream and guacamole, and 1% chicken cartilage and 1% chicken. Giving a 3 because the flavor was of the rice, beans and guacamole was decent. Won't be returning and wouldn't recommend. In the market the pan dulce was way over-priced, $2-3 per piece, didn't try. Some of the bakery products I bought earlier were stale when I got home, a bit upset over that. The prices are ok, I come here a bit and usually don't have a bad experience. Pretty big selection of everything you might need for especially Mexican cuisine. I bought almost everything here for a red pork pozole. I didn't get the hominy because my friend already had some but I saw a few different varieties there. I was able to get everything with plenty of leftover for a party of 5 (probably could have fed 10) in under $40. Great prices as usual. As I'm writing this, I just made a dipped pozole sandwich from the leftovers and I'm telling you it's the most inspired sandwich I've had in the last year. They have very good variety. They bring foods from several Latin American countries, including Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, etc.

Visited a few different times to get food and groceries. This review is for the food at the grill when you first enter. They have specials each day including a taco Tuesday deal (3 tacos for $6). You order at the counter and there's a small seating area if you're interested in staying to eat. Tacos come with like and some radishes. The Al pastor taco was delicious. I've also had the breakfast and carne asada burritos. Both were good but I especially liked the breakfast. They serve it all day in case you don't eat that heavy of a meal early. Burritos come with chips. The service is pretty quick even walking up. I've seen people call in but haven't tried it. All in all I would go back. read more

Love the grocery store, it's small but somehow still has everything I need! Great location, super fast to get in and out, and the cashiers and employees are so friendly. We love bringing my young kids (3yo, 1yo) here for quick errands for dinner because it's nearby, quick and easy, and the kids love the mariachi music and produce selection. There are like 3 small grocery stores on this block and this is our favorite by far. (The restaurant is just ok, very quick and easy for me since it's within walking distance, but not worth dinging the grocery store score!) read more

This is a convenient local Hispanic grocery store with a quick casual Mexican take out spot attached. I have shopped at the grocery store which has comparable prices for the area and has a wide selection of Hispanic groceries as well as other items. They also have a good selection of produce. I have also had tacos and a breakfast burrito from the take out restaurant and both were pretty solid. Not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst. Also picked up a super burrito and as other reviewers warned, there is essentially no cheese, salsa, sour cream or guac. Stopped in here since they were still open and wanted to scope out their prices. You'd probably get a better deal on most produce if you went to Berkeley Bowl or Monterey Market, but they do carry organic produce and are a little larger than the other nearby small grocery/liquor stores. They carry eggs at 2.49 for a dozen or 3.49 for 18, which is a pretty good deal compared to most nearby stores I've seen except for Target (which is currently sold out of eggs anyways). There are currently no limits on how many eggs, milk, or other items that you can buy and they are pretty well stocked in them in spite of the coronavirus. There's in-house made bread, both bolillo and pan dulce, and some other cookies and sweets. The sweet baked goods are mostly either $0.89 or $1.39, which is pricier than the nearby Mi Ranchito, but they look bigger in size as well. They also have a counter to order food like burritos which I'll have to come back and try sometime. And if you like tea, they have a decent selection of teabags as well (though so does the nearby Middle Eastern market as I last recall). I bought a 1.5L Parrot aloe drink (original flavor; for other flavors, Mi Tierra carries a different brand of aloe) for $2.49, and am happy to know they have it here since this is a comparable price to Oakland Chinatown but Mi Tierra is open longer and more consistent hours. This is for the restaurant side. Some of the most bland Mexican food I've had. Entrees come with mediocre chips but no salsa! And no salsa available. Or maybe they hide it. The woman at the counter was not mean but not at all nice. Maybe she doesn't like serving Gringos but she has nothing to be proud of serving such uninspired food. Surprisingly bad! read more

This place used to be my go to for quality inexpensive produce. I also regularly get the taco special on Tuesday's after my Pilates class. Lately I have a noticed several things. The prices have grown really high for some of the more basic items. I understand the tariffs are making everything more expensive but this seems like opportunity and greed more than anything. Second the attitudes from the people that work there are awful. I speak a bit of Spanish and have regularly overheard workers saying weird things about non Latiinx people. They are dismissive of you are t Latino and I've seen them give smaller portions from the restaurant to non Latinos. In time where this should not be the case they seem to have become very insular to the point of rudeness and prejudice. I'll give it a few more tries and will update here if it continues to degrade as there are better ways to spend one's time and money. read more

Need a pinata like I did for my kid's birthday party? Sure, I could've gone to Target and picked out from their slim choices and probably would've ended up spending half the price. Where's the fun in that? We were throwing a video game themed party and looking specifically for a pinata that would fit in line with the theme. I knew from driving by MI Tierra they had quite a number of pinatas on the shelves. So we came to check out the pinata selection on 12/5/21. Parking was easy. There's a parking lot in the back of the store and that's a good thing because trying to park on San Pablo is not easy. The piñatas are not arranged in any order and some are hidden behind other ones so we found ourselves having to maneuver between aisles so we could get a good glimpse at some. They are all located on the very top shelf of produce and canned foods. As a general rule the small piñatas are $20 and large ones are $30. My son spotted out a Fortnight character pinata that looked like a donkey. Customer service was two thumbs up. The guy working the market retrieved our pinata way up high on the top shelf using a ladder. We'll see this afternoon how the pinata holds up under intense bashing by a bunch of 10 year old boys. It seemed sturdy enough as I made my candy hold and stuffed it with the essentials. Kids are thrilled for a pinata and my kid loves this pinata (see photos). read more

We popped into the store because it was there. Walking through the store, we found a couple of pastries that looked perfect for dessert. Unfortunately, we found the pastries to be way too sweet for us. We couldn't eat more than a couple of bites of each one. We also saw that they sold Tamales in the eating area. Those are rung up separately. At first, they were out of Pork but managed to find one. We ended up with one each of Pork and Chicken and two Corn Tamales. The Masa on the Tamales was pretty good. Wonderful neighborhood grocery store with all the Mexican staples. Produce is fresh and well priced. Folks are friendly. I recommend grabbing some fresh Oaxaca cheese (ask at the meat counter). Best place for Latin American groceries and all products you need to make your own authentic Latino foods. They carry my all time favorite Empanada disks, several brands of Argentinian Dulce De Leche, including Habana brand, they also carry the best Alfajores out there. Also in the freezer section you'll find sausages from all over Latin America including blood sausages, I'm particularly fond of the Argentinian brand. They carry many Mates and many other different and tasty teas. So if you're Homesick for something you're also craving head on over to Mi Tierra, they also have produce and a great meat market that's very friendly and courteous to everyone that comes in to shop. read more

Thanks to Mi Tierra, we churned out some surprisingly good tamales and pupusas on the very first try. I love this place but some of the workers can be rude- just not to your face. I'm Mexican but some people think I am Asian based off how I look. Overheard 2 male employees talking smack about why I was buying Zote (Lavó mi chonies en la regadera cuando me baño) and why "people like her are in the store of our people." As in what business do I have doing in a latino supermarket... Now, I know Latinos can be super racist (as are many people of different cultures) but he was saying it as he was standing right next to me not knowing I spoke Spanish or was Mexican (even with my dark skin color). They should know better than to talk smack in a store where plenty of people of different races shop and any one of them could speak Spanish. Mi Ranchito market next door has cheaper queso fresco so I guess I'll buy my zote somewhere else. read more

This review is for the restaurant side of the grocery store. It is unfortunate that I have ordered burritos plenty of times and each time they do not Put sour cream when i specifically ask them they have forgotten in the past. I was hopeful they would get the order correct and ordered multiple different times as this location is convenient for me and I do like getting products from the grocery side of the store. Grocery store is good! They have the essentials and the a variety of products from around Latin America. However, as for the restaurant side- I am not sure why they aren't great at following requests for orders that you are paying for, that are supposed To include things like guacamole and sour cream, and then you receive them and it is a disappointment! In conclusion- not a big fan of ordering food here, better off ordering somewhere else and getting what you ask for. For the market side- they have a good variety of products for everyday needs.
