** - During the Coronavirus lockdown -** I was surprised to see that more than 30 days in to the isolation - social distancing period, there is no line outside of Mi Tierra. The crowd was all inside like usual. No social distancing, at all! The lines for the cashier were long and everyone was right on top of each other. As much as I like this store, I am at high-risk, and I cannot go there until there is a vaccine, cure or some other development making it safe again. Also, a long-standing gripe, why can't you put your weekly specials online? I would go here since it is the closest to my home. Instead I go blocks out of my way because I have a list created by going through the flyer before I leave my house. It's the way we shop these days. Get with it! read more

Seriously the only reason I ever shopped over here was it was so close to home and the produce was cheap. However the meat department sucks compared to other chain supermarkets. I'd rather make the trip to Waldbaums. It's overpriced for the quality, nothing ever looked fresh. Thin cut steaks only available, low quality choices. Not a huge selection. A sure sign you've gotten old; you go to certain grocery stores for certain things because the prices are so wildly different. This is a thing my mom does, and I didn't really understand it until I went to Mi Tierra and the fancy milk was 2 dollars more than priced at a few other grocery stores on 37th. As a result, this is a solid place for fruit and veggies, and the middle aisle stuff. For some reason the milk/eggs/cheeses are priced higher or have fewer options. The register lanes can fit a stroller, which is a whole star alone. I never thought that was a thing, but it is a thing. If you have a stroller, you'll be a-ok here. read more

The cashiers here are friendly but manager isn't that nice. I like the wild salmon they sell. However there is not enough variety. No organic fruits are offered. Also if you bring bananas loose that someone already took out of bag; they will charge you 50 cents each. Other supermarkets do not have this policy. read more

This supermarket is unusual. The prices are higher than any other Mi tiera and higher than deli grocery stores.

If I had to rate the customer service here and the cashiers, they would get half a star ... very rude. The only things that saves them are the cheap produce prices and the seafood department. I go back and forth with Mi Tierra. Key Food on 86th and Foodtown on 37th Ave are definitely superior. PROS - Close to my apartment - Cheap produce - Ultra-affordable and bountiful staples of Latin American cooking - Fair selection of fresh (if a bit pricey) seafood CONS - Slim, overpriced selection of my "yuppie" foods, i.e. greek yogurt - Narrow, often crowded aisles - Some of the produce, meat, and even dry goods are old. I once saw an entire section of olive oil so old it was solid and white. Didn't know this could even happen. - Customer service is meh - As another reviewer said, it's mysteriously cold in here all the time. I popped in here on Christmas day and it was colder in the store than it was outside! All-in-all I can usually get most of my shopping done here to my satisfaction so I can't knock Mi Tierra too much. I do shop here most of the time unless I'm in a bougie mood. read more

After reading some clumsy reviews I wanna say this is a supermarket not a cafe.Their cashiers are friendly, especially ladies. Prices are normal for a retail market since it is not a wholesale place. The only issue is sometimes they carry fishes that are not eatable anymore. read more

Compared to most supermarkets in the area, this has the best prices. I spend 50$ and walk out with 10bags!!! Always come here for my salmon. Always fresh and staff very friendly. I will say it gets extremely packed w/ very long lines. I have no complaints up to this day. Always find what I need and more. read more

I like this place. It beats the hell out of the hole in the wall that was there before it. The produce section is nicely organized and displayed. The prices are reasonable. I think the produce is cheaper than Compare and the quality is better. The aisles are small but whatelse is new. The deli guy is nice - he will slice it thin if you ask... I rarely buy meat in a supermarket, I go to a butcher shop in Astoria. So for my purposes if I am in the area to get some Thai food or Pollo Asado, I definitely will stop in for some needed items. Overall I think it is a decent supermarket. read more

Aside from the fact that everything is over priced for the quality you receive the staff is super unprofessional. Then men working in the aisles are all perverts. My 15 year old sister hates coming to the super market because men are always making side remarks loud enough for you to hear but quiet enough to not catch anyone else's attention. Yet another wretched New York supermarket, seemingly transported as if by magic from behind the Iron Curtain before the collapse of Communism. Cramped, indifferent, filled with mysteriously priced items and second rate produce, it's recommended for all who suffer from low blood pressure, since a visit is guaranteed to induce hypertension. After snaking your way through the narrow aisles, count on a nice long wait to check out. That's because there are too few cashiers, no doubt as a result of the store's lofty standards for excruciating slowness and unfriendliness in all its hires. Sadly there are worse stores in Jackson Heights, though a recent outburst of investment at Patel's and Food Dynasty may have pushed Mi Tierra down to the bottom of the dismal pile. read more

People, open your eyes and pay attention to the price for the items you buy! Many a times the computer does not reflect the correct price and this supermarket is famous for not charging the correct price. It is my personal experience. Many many many times the price has to be corrected by the store manager. Also, most of the items are over-priced compared to other supermarkets. The quality of produce is also very poor. The cucumbers, zuchinni, mangoes etc. are wilted and not fresh at all. They are hideous and the telephone number listed on their flyers and on their cash register receipts do not match. The store is nice enough with a decent selection and prices, but every time I go there's a ridiculously long line at the checkout and the checkout girls are often impolite. Tonight after waiting in line for 20 minutes she was so careless bagging my food that she broke the packaging on some meat and ended up bagging raw meat and fresh produce in the same bag, which is not sanitary. If they can get more registers running and better customer service I might go here more often for the large produce section, but instead I go a few blocks up to Compare (on 85th) where the service is better. read more

The staff is nice and the products that are there are decent and well organized. However, the selection is slim and the prices can be beat. The worst thing about this store is the temperature though. It is freezing year round. At least in the winter you have a coat on to cover up from it. I'm miserable in this place if I don't have a coat on and avoided it this summer. The staff, particularly the guys who do the stocking, are really nice and helpful. This market is full of thrives. I went in today for corn for my cookout, and the advertised price was 1.99 for 7- not conditional. By the time I went to the cashier, I was charged 5 dollars. I complained to the manager, he points out that I have to buy $10 worth of OTHER GROCERIES so that I am get the discount. The ONLY place this was posted, and it clearly was at a cashier....Not the cashier I was shopping from, 2 lines over. I paid and told them I would never shop at their place again, clearly mentioning that they are thieves. read more

Number one upsetting thing about this supermarket is the amount of boxes piled in the aisle! Not only is this dangerous for mother with children, but you can't get threw with you stroller of shopping cart. I kid you not this place is awful. Nothing is ever on sale and the meat section smells horrible! Got some ice cream here and expiration date was 6 months old. I brought it back and was told well you should have checked. The best produce and prices in the area. There is no place that comes close to this. C town is awful and trade fair is worse.

I miss the old met foods which was in this location. The male staff are extremely unhelpful. I once waited 10 minutes for the fish merchant to come to his post before i was able to order. I asked another male staff member if he could get me something from a high shelf and he refused and said "its not my job". These are not the only incidents .Mind you i was not rude and this man did work at the store. The items are expensive and not varied. Maybe they will improve their customer service. read more

On 2/5/2013 my mother wanted to buy corn on the cob which was not available. She told the cashier to give her a rain check in which the cashier then told her manager and the manager said to pay for the corn at that time and a note would be written on the receipt to pick up the produce when available. Today 2/6/2013 at about 7:40 PM I accompany my mom to get the corn and as I wait outside I see my mom waiting for about ten minutes for the manager. Once PJ (or Pedro) comes he says she will have to come the next day to verify with the manager that Okayed the supposed rain check. He questions my mother as to why she paid for the corn- she paid for the corn it tells him that she got the corn. PJ then tells me he can't check the cameras at that moment because he's the only manager available to void products when cashiers need him. He had a real nasty attitude and I don't think customers should be treated that way. For something that costs $1.99 he is making my mother come back to the store (she does not live close and she had a foot operation one and a half months ago which limits her walking) to confirm with the previous manager. I asked PJ to call the manager which wrote the note on the receipt but he refused. I've understood the customer is always right up to a certain point. In this case, the store should have a process for rain checks or either let it go and deal with it internally so that in the future this issue does not happen. This store is definitely not customer oriented compared to Compare Foods on 87 St and Northern Blvd. Too bad it forces me to pick at least a star- they deserve no stars. read more

Since this about the only grocery store within walking distance of me, I was excited when they finally reopened. The good thing is they do have a very interesting selection of exotic produce and imported items. However it is difficult, if not impossible to find basics, like toilet paper and corn flakes. And the aisles are so narrow that only one person can go through at a time. You literally have to stand there and wait until the other person goes through. The prices are not that great. And the staff is not helpful and the cashiers rude. I now make the trip to another supermarket with much better prices and selections. read more

This supermarket has one serious problem: Its computer system is not updated to reflect price changes, so one is almost always charged the wrong price for at least one item by the bar-code scanner. I have repeatedly complained to managers there about this, but nothing changes. read more

this place is not so great...they don't have any soy protein or meat alternatives at all unlike other places in the neighborhood and the cashiers are extremely unfriendly...they don't greet you at all and when you say bye they don't say anything back...I understand getting paid 10 an hour sucks but c'mon..a little friendly customer service would be nice. I was so excited when I saw this supermarket opening up in 2011. It was close to my mom's apartment and convenient for her since she is elderly and disabled. Sadly, this supermarket is the biggest disappointment to the Jackson Heights neighborhood. It is over-crowded with narrow aisles, disorganized and lack of customer service. Not all employees, but most. Today's experience was one for me never to go back there. I went with my disabled mother to grocery shop since she can't do it on her own. We walked through the market and got what we needed. One thing I noticed was once we got to the middle aisles of the market and towards the front, near the registers, there were all these half empty carts, blocking the way, with no customers in sight. I kept having to move carts to the side, so my mother and our cart could get through to the next aisle. I should have known at that moment something was up. We finished up our shopping and headed to the register. Moving more carts out of the way, one of the female cashiers begins to move one of the carts, sees me coming with a FULL cart and asks me if I am paying with cash. I responded no and then she proceeded to inform me that they were only taking cash because there machines were down. I then questioned her on how long they anticipate this problem to continue. She didn't have an answer for me. I then questioned why there was no sign put on the front door of the market, on each register, or an announcement made in the market to inform their customers of the problem. She again didn't have an answer for me. I then asked if we could put the cart on the side and come back, give us a call when everything was normal again. She said she couldn't answer that for me. I then requested a supervisor. What a waste of time and energy that was speaking with this rude male, whom I just found out is the son of the management, hence why he feels that he can be the nasty person he is and probably the only reason he is employed. I questioned him again about why there was no announcement made, signs put on the door regarding this problem. He said it just happened. That was a false statement he made since I knew I was moving half empty carts out of the way when I was in the middle of the store. That was about 10 minutes prior.. He had an attitude when answering me and told me they couldn't help us out with holding out items in the cart. Not certain of what to do, I stood off to a register with my mother that wasn't opened, in hopes that the server would come back online. Speaking to another customer about the situation that was occurring, I mentioned I have plenty of retail experience and they should have made an announcement immediately of what was going on regarding their server being down. This young cashier female in the register next to the one I was standing at with the cart begins giving me attitude and questioning where I worked. I responded to her with, excuse me? You want to know what my profession is and I responded. I also mentioned I do have 10 years+ of retail experience and if this happened in my store, we would immediately have made an announcement, have hand written signs up on the doorway and at each register. That is what good management would have done as soon as a problem like that came about. Few more minutes go by and I still in hopes of the server coming back up so my mother didn't have to make another trip to the market and redo everything we just did, this female cashier again questions me on what I was waiting for. Again, I said excuse me, had her repeat herself to make certain I heard her correctly and responded. Now, I got a little louder just in case she didn't comprehend why I wasn't moving and asked her if she had a problem with me standing their with a full cart and my disabled mother. She angered me with her stupidity. Then when I responded to her question, didn't even have the courage to look at me when I answered. I requested from one of the employees the number of the owner and the name of the cashier, but he too didn't help me in my request. He gave me a BS story on how he didn't know the girl's name and I had to ask the supervisor for that information. Again, pointless. Never, ever again will I walk in there. Lack of customer service is not something that any customer needs to tolerate. I will walk 5 blocks away to the next supermarket to get my needs. Sadly, my disabled mother cannot handle that walk and will still have to do her shopping with a bunch of inconsiderate people at this supermarket. BTW, it took them over 30 minutes to get the signs on the door and register and never made an announcement about their servers. read more

This place pulls you in with the array of produce gleaming in their front windows but what lies beneath is another story.. The aisles are jammed packed with garbage, most of the produce is rotten, The prices are always inconsistent. The cashiers are the nastiest bitches you'd ever want to meet. The manager Pedro? could give two craps about anything. He just stands there with a nasty smirk on his face. Last time I went I bought two bottles of soda which so happen to have a coupon attached. I peel them off the bottles hand them to the cashier and she says No you cant use TWO coupons at once. I ask why not she says that's the rules. pedro comes over and says NO you can't use any coupons they are on sale. I tell him they are not on sale but he and the nasty cashier began getting nasty with me. I told them to go Bleep themselves and walked out. Sorry I can spend my hard earned CASH somewhere else.
