i'm coming to this place for quite a while now solely the flower selection just recently I made the biggest purchase of roses. Keep in mind I communicated three days prior about the price ;the amount; ETC... to my surprise they were charging me $75 more than discussed i saw that they priced gouged near mother's day too , I'm so disappointed in them for this last time and i've done nothing but recommend them to other people. Not that exciting a selection, especially for a "natural" market of their size. If you've been to similar markets where the selection is filled to the brim with tight spacing, you'll know what I mean. It feels like everything that they sell, you can for sure get at the store next door or the Foodtown a block away for a fraction of the price. Prices are so exaggerated here (even for organic), it's almost mindblowing to think that they can charge the prices that they charge--and there will be people paying these prices. It's also always incredibly fast-paced in here for some reason, you'd think you were at a Trader Joe's during rush hour. Also wild that they don't have scanners at checkout and have to punch in prices manually, as if they were a small fruit and vegetable shop. Even though I am not their target customer, I can appreciate that it's still a longstanding mom-and-pop business that's trying to survive with the influx of chain businesses that are rapidly changing the neighborhood. read more

Original owner was fantastic. Recently, he sold his store, & things slid downhill. Run out of a lot of things, and are slow to restock - like organic yogurt. Recently, bought ice cream that had been melted and re-frozen, organic Sweet potatoes were tasteless. Selection of organic apples has diminished, our old favorites now have no flavor. read more

I've been a customer of this store for over 10 years. In general, I do like shopping here but I did have one problem. I bought some ground beef from the meat counter. It had a nice bright color to it like freshly ground beef normally looks however when I got home and opened it to make burgers, I found the top layer of fresh meat was hiding older less fresh almost gray colored meat underneath. I've also bought steaks, pork chops and seafood without any problems but I never bought ground beef from them again. Without this incident, it would have been a 4 star review. read more

I don't typically leave reviews for grocery stores but my experience here really inspired me to do so. I can't speak to the actual groceries (although a lot of the reviews I read comment on them being overpriced and often expired), but only to the prepared food. I came here to get some of the prepared food for dinner and truly wish I had not. To start, I bought one stuffed mushroom which was for no reason so moist (literally wet) and I'm not convinced it was cooked. The same lack of clarity regarding how cooked it was revolves around the bland but also charred turkey burger I got. Really no saving that. Finally, I got a quart of the lentil salad but probably would have been better off ripping up $9 as this salad was truly inedible: hard, dry, a weird mix of ingredients. Two bites in and I threw the whole container away. Altogether this meal cost about $14 and was absolutely not worth it. read more

I'm sorry to hear that some people don't have a good experience at this store. I've been shopping here on and off for 40 years. I started getting delivery from them during the pandemic. When I could get out I noticed that the quality of fruits and vegetables in other stores are not as high quality or variety as what I get at the Natural. There used to be so many butchers and vegetable stores near where I live about a mile away on Queens Blvd. So many stores have gone out of business or are struggling. I used to just stop by and shop at the Natural when I was in their area or with the car but now that I am older and can't walk as far, I am glad I am aware of them and that they have free delivery. I don't really buy organic or specialty foods much but I rely on the meat department and I try to call the day before to see what they have like for Christmas or other holidays and I'll order a turkey or roast. That is hard to get here. I also try to get to the farmers' market in season or Trader Joes but those are also quite a walk for me and sometimes they don't have what I need. At least at the Natural, if they don't have one kind of celery, they'll have another. Once I went to Trader Joes and they didn't have any celery at all so I had to change my whole dinner plan. It wasn't the end of the world and I am still able to think on my feet but I guess they didn't have delivery that day or something. But one bad experience doesn't have to mean so much and over time, I think most grocery stores try to do their best. read more

I won't be returning here again. Besides the fact that everything is beyond overpriced, this is not only the first, second but third time I've seen an expired product. The first time I saw it I complained to the cashier and told her where to the item was, second time I went back to the product and they were still in the same spot and still expired (they expired in EARLY June, it was now the end of July) and I brought the item up to show the cashier who was apologetic. Now for the third time, my mom bought the same item which I immediately checked and it was not expired however it has black mold all over it. The expiration date is the end of August but it was so poorly packaged (not tight enough) and then the employees there obviously have not been properly checking the shelves for rotting, expired and moldy food. Same thing goes with Vitellios over on Yellowstone, there are tons of expired items there too, sadly. Except Vitellios gives you your money back, this place gives you the hardest time especially when you deal with the woman with the short black hair (look up other reviews on here about her) who definitely lives up to her reputation as being the rudest person. read more

It was a while back that I read someone's old review dated years ago, attributing her/his card being compromised to this premise: no place but here it was used and the had fraudulent charges afterwards. I thought this world was not as low or lawless as the reviewer painted it to be. Or was I too Pollyanna? Today my card turned out to have a false/fraudulent charge (while the physical card was with me during the whole time so this was panic worthy) and the only place that my card's info being exposed to any of such compromising situation that I could think was SS Natural: the controversial overcharger, self-styled upscale grocer in your neighborhood. So it was no joke nor alarmist and the rumor was true: they (or at least someone among them) mishandle your card and info during transactions. I got spooked. Now it is a joke, also, that one of the women--the famously rude one--guess which one is the most infamous for that-- blatantly got into an ugly commotion with a customer for her (the customer) hovering over the PIN entering screen--, saying to her face as 'See someone was so paranoid to think anyone would care her PIN.' (Not verbatim). Well, guess WHO WAS caring here, then. What can we do with this kind of criminally motivated staff, accessing credit cards? 1) Avoid the site 2) Call cops on them I, too, am thinking right now. I am filing a police report whether adding my experience here this site or not. But no joke. These people are not just rude beyond belief (if) they are skimming. (But I am saying this rather on the re-confirming side that they are.) So I need to think fast and hard before I will go to the nearby precinct as soon as tomorrow. What the hell is the world coming to, though, really? Can't we even shop with peace of mind in a little stretch of a Korean deli? Or, at least that was what this used to be. read more

There's moderate street parking and a bit pricier than your Non-Organic alternative, but, the convenience factor is unmatched as they're located on the busy corner of Austin St & Ascan Ave. Their deli section has decent Boars Head selections as well as imported prosciuttos and other similar options. Their butcher section provides many sought after cuts of meat including T-bone steaks, skirt steak, ribeye, lamb & pork. Pretty good organic and natural food shop right on Austin Street. They have been here for a while and probably the closet thing to a Whole Foods in the area. Fruits are usually all outside. There are plastic bags so you can pick what you want to go from there. Inside the store, the cashiers are behind a circle desk and right by the entrance. The line usually goes down the aisle right by it which is he deli section as well. Lots of fresh food as well. To the left of the store is a huge cheese section as well along with the fresh meat. Great store as they have stuff from all over as far as brands. European and Japanese. Some of the stuff is pricey but harder to find in the other grocery stores. read more

My favorite supermarket in the area. They have higher end foods I can only find at select stores like: free range chicken, kombucha, artisan yogurts, and organic vegetables. Though I don't buy all organic or high end groceries, this place has everything you need if you want to do better than Perdue chicken I shop primary at this place, Trader Joes and HMart. This place will give me access to all the Western foods I want that may be European. TJs has all the American infatuations but in a commercialized format. And HMart is just fantastic for Korean and Japanese food. Just to list some of the other items they have at this place: huge variety of cheeses & yogurt, many brands of olive oil, premium brands of honeys and ice cream, and many more. I've been to the Natural Market a few times and have always loved it here. It can be a little intimidating as the cashiers are all about business. They want to get you to pay and get out essentially. But today something really cool happened. Each time I pop in I get me some fresh coconut. They have it in a container on ice. It's so fresh and I love it! Well today I came by and they didn't have any. So I asked a young man by the name of Mr King, if he could check to see if they had any downstairs. He asked me how many? I told him two thinking he would bring up two of the containers of coconut. Well he misunderstood me and brought me two fresh coconuts. I asked him if he had any that were cut open. He laughed and apologized then told me he would have the guys downstairs break two open to give me fresh coconut. Who does that?! So cool. Let me tell you: the coconut from NM is always delicious but today it had an additional allure because Mr King went the extra mile to get me what I wanted. So cool! read more

On Saturday, August 17th, I was accused of stealing at S.S. Natural. The manager came out the store and yelled, "hey!" And I turned about because I thought I dropped something. He was pointing to my bag. A few minutes prior, I purchased food at a market two doors down. I had a receipt sitting on top on my groceries. I was looking for a particular vegan milk brand that I didn't see at the other store. I walked the whole store to make sure I didn't miss it. Then, I walked out. He grabbed my bag and reached in to see if I stole anything. I'm like, "sir, I didn't buy anything. What are you saying?" He kept pointing to my bag and said he saw me put noodles in my bag. He insisted. Then, I had to defend myself as kept trying to reach in my bag. I had a receipt and I showed it to him. I will not be returning. How disappointing! read more

They have a great selection of organic produce but everything is extremely overpriced and there are often expired items on the shelves. They are selling Belgian Boys mini pancakes for double the price of regular retail (i.e., Target) and the boxes have been sitting there for at least a year with no expiration date. I love this grocery store! They have everything you could possibly need from gojuchang for Korean food or different varieties of Gouda cheese or even black truffles. Food that a normal Key Food or Food Town would not have in stock. Also their produce is super fresh and the flower selection is amazing! This store has been around as long as I remember and I am from this area. The transformation the store has made over time was noteworthy, to say the least. Now that the store seems to have successfully marketed itself as a small scale neighborhood Whole Foods, I've had mixed feelings and fair share of experiences the good, bad and ugly. If you monitored the site in the way I and other regulars have over time, however, the reasons that the patronage should still be continued are run out at this point. Its inconsistent pricing has left a good number of clients baffled, or even evisrated (TBH, who wants to be fooled this way? In addition to the price range being easily 30% more than the average in the area, lots of items go through drastic price hike overnight with no rhyme and reason, let alone notification, as if they were trying to see how far they could get in this furtive game!?) and this certainly took a wrong turn and irreversible during the height of the pandemic. Now, with the ill-equipped counter and cashiers' operation, I would opt this place out for good, possibly. I believed that the rude and clueless clerks (Lo and behold: other reviewers here already relayed their share of horror stories caused by the notorious R.U.D.E., inappropriately trained/untrained yet somehow kept 'short-haired, speculacularly evil Russian middle aged woman' cashier behind the couter) do not necessarily represent the store's service policy. If bad service as hers spoiled shopping experiences this much and the store operation could not care less, though, that is the end of the story to a lot of shoppers with adequate cognition to discern. There are a whole bunch of other grocers in the area and some are better accomodating and more professional, with variety of means to communicate with and tranparent system to ring up and record each and single item they charge customers. It is horrid that they still use the primitive, unclear and manual ringing up, with inconvenient and inconsistent ways of operating card entry method. And they still charge even higher than most high end chains in Manhattan. What to make of it? When you struggle to get your point across beyond the rude and obstinate cashiers,' who'd readily quarrel, and remember to harass you in your future visits, the impression you have of the business only get opaque, and frightening, even. Consequetly not a lot of people find the store worth going back to, especially when the service is not too great for the money they drop whereas no proper management the unruly employees are under. This might be an example of 'Wrong personnel could ultimately kill a store as this.' Why did the store still keep such unworthy employees knowingly they put the business in trouble repeatedly in the past? Will our voices expressed here and there be answered at last by somebody conscientious from the store? This is no longer about one Korean corner deli but evolving into an ambitous chain that extends far into Long Island. I am not getting my hopes up and pretty much done with this kind as of the end of 2022 when things are not the same as two years ago, even. Many more stores are out there and odds are they could be good enough just to get through hassle-free transaction and come home. Why pay your mind, let alone your money, to anything that does not live up to your needs, standard of civility and peace of mind? read more

How many years has it been since I have returned? I'll not be doing that kind of age math, however by all outward appearances -- little has changed. Center pseudo deli/salads section still holds the title for best darn tuna fish salad locally. Pasta salads, greens salads up to and including the one that begin the letter "K" ending with a "wah" sound, which i can not spell, are all super fresh, bursting with flavor and rich color. Not that my body would have an inkling what to do with ruffage as the family, geniuses, and species had not been seen internally for quite some time. Slung a few slabs of meat into my basket of the beef and pork persuasion with two types of BBQ sauce to play with. In general terms, I kind of hate the tomato paste based barbeque sauces but I enjoy reading the labels and buying it -- adding to my collection at home and again, looking at it. They remain more of a decorative piece than practical flavor enhancer. A quick shuffle left and I'm off to the horseshoe shaped check out line where accelerated hand gestures give clear indication when your next up. Keep an eye on the Russian cashier or, better yet, avoid her completely. She either doesn't know the prices or she knows them but likes to overcharge just for fun. She's overcharged me several times and when I point it out to her she never argues but takes my word for it. Alot of their stuff is way overpriced and the quality of the produce is meh. SS Natural is a medium-size grocery store with lots of specialty food. There's a large deli section with plenty of nice items. Biggest downside is they charge higher prices. Higher prices are to be expected for better product, but they charge higher prices for the not-so-gourmet stuff as well. read more

I grew up in Forest Hills so I've watched this grocery store evolve from half the size when Baskin Robbins still occupied the space, to what it is now. I honestly love this grocery store. It was my go-to for all of my grocery shopping. It's a neighborhood gem and I basically gave them all my money when I still lived in the area. My parents still live in Forest Hills so I make sure to go whenever I visit. The prices are pretty comparable to Manhattan, but some of the produce is cheaper. The line is always long, but they've got a Trader Joe's system going that makes it extremely quick and efficient. They've got a great selection of healthy chips, cereals, pastas, and candy (haha i'm serious). If you feed into the organic stuff like I do, then this is the place for you. read more

This is still a great gourmet shop! We found ourselves lunching in Forest Hills and decided to pop into The Natural and buy some fresh fruit. The selection of fruit is great - the organic section could be a bit bigger but it is definitely sufficient. The cold cuts are delicious. An organic grocery market large with choices and selection. Located on the busy business district in Forest Hills, Austin Street inhabits a local knock-off of the giant Whole Foods Market. While a Forest Hills resident, in a past life, I would shop here occassionally which created a hole in my bank account. My Wife and I are always amazed at how much they stuff into this store without feeling too crowded. The quality of the fresh fruit and food is far superior to any other place I have ever shopped. There is always someone going through the fruit and vegetables to make sure there aren't any bad ones in your package. I know others feel they are expensive but I don't think they are. The quality is what you are paying for. The checkout line might seem long but move VERY quickly. read more

A good cornerstone for Austin Street - a nice mix of greengrocer and gourmet store. Charcuterie is solid, they have a good butcher and the staff take pride in their work - I bought some sausages and the guy behind the counter wouldnt hand them over until he was sure the expiration date was less than 90 days. So much better than Key Food and the others. A nice beer selection and a well-curated candy section are other points worth citing. My one gripe is that the flowers never last long and the price point is a little higher than the quality warrants. Other than that, yeah, I'm really happy that these guys are in my community. read more

I found them much better than other grocery store nearby, definitely my favorite in the area. However HUGE shoutout to the place. I left my card by accident, they forgot to give it back, I forgot to ask for it, whatever but basically I called them like 6+ hours later when I realized I lost it and they have it! The woman behind the counter was super rude!!! Occasionally you will meet a chasier will actually says thank you to the customers. But most of time they always have cold attitude. But today this woman was beyon rude. She didnt bother to bag my gorcery, so i simply asked "can you bag these for me?" She extended her hand to me and kept saying "money , money"!!! When she finally bag them, she just shoveled everything in, so my strawberry was stuck on the bottom and all mushy. With so many choices in the neighborhood. Nice selection of goods and fruit. The service is sometimes speedy and slow depends on the time you go. The deli guys don't change gloves to prepare your food, sometimes they're cleaning and will make your food with the same gloves on. you have asked them to change gloves and they will give you attitude. That means they're dirty like shit. You spend 30 or 40 dollars depends who is helping you will give you a piece of free fruit but not guaranteed. hygiene is still to be invented in this place. read more
