Yesterday, Wednesday, November 19th of this year, I visited the Mi Tierrita restaurant in Patchogue, NY, and I'm going to tell you about my bad and bitter experience at this restaurant. I ordered chicken consommé and my friend ordered beef sancocho. Excuse me, but the food was so poorly cooked that it tasted awful. The sancocho tasted like pure grease, and the chicken consommé was even worse. And to top it all off, the waitress gave us terrible service. We were served by the worst waitress in the restaurant. I was starving, and the service was terrible! I was sorry to pay for that meal; I felt like I'd wasted my money. I went home hungry and very disappointed. Can't believe I just made my first visit to Mi Tierrita Restaurant just a few weeks ago. As I scrolled through fellow Yelpers' reviews, I was surprised to read about the hit or miss experiences they've had at this place. My husband grew up a local to town and this was a spot he frequented while still living in the area. I'm thrilled that we came on a 'good' day as everything from the food to service was fantastic. My husband and I came in on a weekday for dinner. To my surprise, they had many customers at the time we came in and maintained a steady flow of take out and dine in patrons while we enjoyed our meal. We were promptly greeted and brought to a seat, then quickly approached by a friendly waitress to take our initial drink orders and answer any initial questions. Her attentiveness to our table and speed with our requests were remarkable. The great service we received elevated the amazing food we ordered. Our order consisted of - Chicken Empanadas - Beef Empanadas - Typical Platter All the food we had was OUTSTANDING and authentic. Empanadas were stuffed with flavorful, tender meat. The Typical Platter was large in quantity and was loaded with all components listed on the menu. Every item on the platter worked perfectly with each other and though everything was tasty, the most memorable were the steak, pork skin (yum!), and sweet plantains (definitely the right thing for this sweet and savory palette of mine). A great sample of what I'm sure is some of their best items. The food was definitely priced correctly to the taste, quality, and quantity. Good food and great service! We were having an impromptu get-together at the house and we didn't want the regular go-to like pizza or burgers. My big brother recommended this place as one of his favorites, and it's now one of mine! We ordered the Salmon dinner, which came with Cassava, and a soft, delicious cream sauce. It also came with rice and beans which were very flavorful. We also ordered the grilled chicken dinner and breaded fried chicken dinner, which came with fries and rice with beans. The beef empanadas were amazing, so were their version of fried sweet plantains. The Arepas were good, fresh, and cheesy. We also ordered an extra white rice which had tons of flavor. Overall, the experience went beyond my expectations. I'll be recommending this place to friends and family, and I will make sure I stop in every time I'm in town!! read more

Mi Tierrita 3/5 I've had a lot of Colombian cuisine and this was pretty average. Nothing was out of the ordinary and dishes were overall lacking flavor. Service from certain servers were horrible, other servers were much more attentive. Food and service fluctuate too drastically for me to give this restaurant any more than a 3 our of 5. Dishes ordered: Bandeja Campensina (Ground beef, pork skin, egg, corn cake, sweet plantain, avocado, rice and beans) Pechuga De Pollo Empanizada (Breaded chicken breast, french fries, rice and beans) Guisado De Cola y Costilla de Res (Sautéed oxtails and ribs, casava, potato, rice and beans) Arepa Blanca con Queso and chorizo (Corn Cake w/ Shredded Cheese and Sausage) Mondongo Grande (Soup of the day) Bandeja Campensina: 3.5/5 This dish is very fulfilling and will definitely hold your hunger down for a while. Rice lacked flavor and the Chicharon was very hard, a bit over cooked. The sweet plantain is a great change of flavor for the savory based plate. The ground meat was good and complimented the beans well. Just lacked a bit of flavor but overall good dish. Pechuga De Pollo Empanizada: 5/5 Chicken was fried perfectly and the breading had a delicious crunch. The chicken stayed juicy and can never go wrong with some French fries on the side. Guisado De Cola y Costilla de Res: 2.5/5 I do understand the meats in this dish are expensive so that definitely reflected the portion size but I wish I got a heads up. The meat the potato and the Yuka all lacked flavor. Even the orange sauce on the plate could save the lack of flavor. Meats like oxtail usually are soft tender and fall of the bone, here it was a bit rougher than I would have liked and had a lot more fat than meat. Sadly the best part of this dish was the rice and beans on the side. Arepa Blanca con Queso and Chorizo: 4/5 Arepa was cooked to perfection and the cheese was broiled on top and left a nice golden crust. The chorizo was cooked and tasted very fresh. Combining all three flavors created a party in your mouth was really good. Arepa felt like it was a couple days old but still was a very good dish. Mondongo Grande: 5/5 Was a delicious soup and was very tasteful. They were very generous with the meat and was the best dish by far. If I were to come back it's for this soup right here, a Colombian classic and it's absolutely amazing here. The rice and beans are an awesome side with this dish and the flavor was spot on. I will continue my search for the best Colombian food in the Suffolk area but this is a nice place if ur in the mood and ur in the area. I might come for certain dishes but the inconsistency in their service was a good turn off. 3/5 the soup and the chicken is the only reason I might come back. read more

Being objective about this place. The location and the decor and overall cleanliness is pretty good. The great part of the review stops there. Of the plates that we got, the main plates were mostly bland and the aji was borderline acidic. It was the empanadas that were inedible. One of the four empanadas was as hard as a rock and was sent back, didn't feel like breaking any teeth. The second of four empanadas didn't have any chicken and here is the kicker, the waiter tried to convince me that the chicken had been pureed to the point that it was even textured to the flour used. Rigghhht...and I have a bridge in NY to sell you. Lastly, when dishes are sent back, a customer usually doesn't have to pay, but not here, full price and not even an apology. Ordered lunch to go about a week ago. Food is great honestly, but customer service has to be better. I don't live near here, and when I realized my side of beans were missing, I called to ask for a partial refund. The lady who answered said they "don't do refunds", and proceeded to say it was my fault because I left when she went to get the beans. If I could leave zero stars I would. This was our second time giving them a chance because the first time was not good. Never brought the appetizer, got the order wrong twice and refused to fix it. Charged us for the appetizer and never brought it but the chef said they sent it out. There wasn't even a plate for it in the table! Manager was no help didn't even apologize. My first visit to this bustling restaurant. And I know why it is so busy, the food. We started with the house sangria, so delicious. A big glass, only 6.95 and so worth it. Tried the empanadas, delicious. I could easily have. Devoured more, tender been in side delicious golden friend dough. As the was our first visit we tried two players, both came with the best beans I have ever experienced. I could go back and just eat beans, and this coming from someone who normally does not enjoy beans in any form is a real compliment. Loved the fried plantain. I used to love getting food here. The prices went so high up even before pandemic. Portions used to be nice and big. I cannot believe 3 large sancochos (that come with a small portion of rice and beans and one order of 5 slices of maduros totaled 48.99 as take out. The food is very good but the service was horrible.. Since I only speak a little spanish I ordered in English but she insisted responding only in spanish. I made many attempts to get my waitress to come by so I can get a drink but she would make eye contact with me and look away. NOT once did she come over to see how I was doing. Not to mention I was the only person I there eating at the time. I had to get up at the very end and ask another waitress for the bill. As I was walking out I passed my waitress and she made a point to ignore my "thank you". I don't know why I received such a nasty attitude and poor service. Can it be that I'm not spanish? I'd like to think that's not the case but considering when I couldn't understand one of her questions she sighed then rolled her eyes and repeated it slowly like she was talking to a little kid.. Ordered fried shrimp which normally comes with rice, a beet, lettuce, tomato and the shrimp. Picked up my order and the plate had only shrimp and some lettuce. A week later ordered the same thing and told the lady that they didn't included everything last time so please make sure they do this time. Picked up the order, and shrimp came with just rice. Nothing more. I'm annoyed and angry that I pay full price but didn't receive my full order. The food is delicious and this is something they can fix. As I was driving there I was thinking about what I wanted to order. I knew that I didn't want to leave uncomfortably full, as I have in the past. So when she ordered a bowl of chicken soup, I thought that sounded perfect. So I ordered a bowl of Mondongo. It is a delicious soup with (get ready for it) tripe. I love this soup. It was delicious!!! Little did I know that it came with rice and beans. We got a side order of tostones (plantains) and a side order of maduros (sweet plaintains). For dessert we ordered the caramel flan (a custard), I didn't care for it. But it's personal preference. Of course I will be back here... I highly recommend eating here!!! read more

I initially called to ask about a specific kind of soup. The person who answered the phone could not speak any English. As hard as I tried, she wasn't understanding me! I then told her I needed someone who spoke English! I had to wait on the phone for almost 15 minutes before someone (I think a waitress), got on the phone. I placed the order with her. After picking up the order, my husband said the soup was bad (old and tasted funny ), so he had to throw it out! I won't be ordering from them again UNLESS I stop in purposely and only order the 3 empanadas and rice and beans. It's the only food I believe will be good. My husband is from another country and works with the public daily AND his English isn't perfect but he can understand and responds to customers appropriately, so my complaint has nothing to do with the fact that most of the workers weren't born in this country. However, if you want to serve Spanish speaking people only, you should let English speakers know that! Furthermore without having someone who can speak English enough to answer simple questions and take orders, they will lose many English speaking customers! read more

For lunch one day I decided to give Mi Tierrita a try with my fiance who is a UPS driver in the local area. We met up during a horrendous rainstorm (during which we witnessed a tree splice in two in the parking lot) and walked into this fine establishment. Shakira was singing over the speakers and I knew I was in the right place! We sat in a booth next to the window and waited to be served. Our waiter came over after a few minutes with menus. After looking over the extensive list, we decided to order the same lunch item. When ordering, the waiter asked if we wanted to order 1 or 2 of the same entree which should have been our indication of something large to come. We wanted 2, please. Should have listened to the waiter: the $10 meal we got was HUUUUUUUUGE. Soup, chicken, rice and beans, fries, salad... WHOA BABY. Delicious food, large portions, great service.
