Small place that seats less than 30, friendly staff. Darren got the steak burrito which the menu said was on the menu before they had a menu. For 28 bucks you get chela-marinated, grilled skirt steak, queso chihuahua, local black beans, romaine, avocado, grilled onion, banana peppers, sour cream (allegedly). It was about 90% steak and small amounts of cheese, romaine and a bit of avocado. I ate half last night. Maybe the other half has all the other ingredients. I like a lot of meat, but it really needed everything else. The place is vibrant casual and small with amazing Mexican food and a wide mezcal and other Mexican liquor offerings. We had an excellent dinner from beginning to end. The service staff was excellent and very friendly from the front of the house when we first entered to the end of our meal. Our server was fantastic, highlighting various entrées, cocktails, and telling us a little bit about the restaurant. We start out with the guacamole and chips and the incredible salsa. Next came the shrimp ceviche followed by a meat burrito and also pork chop mole outstanding in every sensitive word. I can see why the chef is one of the best chefs in the nation. My son took me to dinner as his "Experience Christmas gift" to me this year. This was the best Mexican food experience that I have had since Topolobampo 15 years ago! The pulpo was amazing, and the colifor afumado fundido was one of the best vegetable forward dish I have ever experienced in any cuisine. Wonderful, engaging host, servers, well the entire staff, made the evening so comfortable and enjoyable. The room itself is tastefully decorated-think authentic Mom and pop Mexican taqueria elevated! Had a reservation here that I needed to cancel an account of the fact that my dining companion contracted Covid. Call the restaurant numerous times, nobody picked up when I finally got through to somebody. They told me they would still have to charge me $25 a person cancellation fee. Came here on a Wednesday night and had to make this reservation over two weeks in advance because this place doesn't have many reservations and upon arriving, I realized just how small it is It appears that during summer or better weather they probably set up tables on their patio out front however, keep in mind they are literally on the corner of California and Logan so if you like the traffic and the pollution and all the foot traffic, this is the place to sit We were here during February and sat inside because it is quite cold outside I got very lucky because we had a 5:30 PM reservation with the parking directly on the street and did not have to pay and was able to find a space that was not permit only I must say the food here is such a fun and unique twist and perspective on Mexican food. The menu is very deep with details and ingredients. This is not your average run of the mill Mexican food and I absolutely enjoyed the experience. Our server was very very kind and super friendly. She was very helpful as well with recommendations, and what her thoughts were including the wine selection. And with our group, it was great that she had a sense of humor as well. I would definitely come back here again as this is a great culinary experience. This is definitely on the higher end as far as cost. Guacamole: really good, would order again Aguachile: didn't realize this was another thing to be eaten with chips, and thought it was just ok. Pescado Al mojo de ajo: market fish of the day was salmon and this dish was very tasty! I especially loved the fried garlic pieces and the salad part in general. I found the fish a tad dry, but otherwise loved this dish Tres leches: very yummy and not too sweet! The thin layer of chocolate around it was interesting and added another dimension to the cake that I didn't mind Tamarindo agua fresca: tasty and tart - wouldn't have minded it a little sweeter! I didn't get why he was so obsessed with this place until I finally came here and it blew my mind the way they do their sauce at this restaurant is like phenomenal. Every bite I take I just wanna keep eating more and more of it. I think my least favorite was the octopus which was surprising because I usually love how mexican restaurants make their octopus. I think they might've over charred it because it tasted a bit bitter to me but that didn't ruin my experience at this place. The shrimp with sweet potato was so good because of the sauce and I like how there was like a good kick out of it. The service was good and quick. My Father, sisters, and I made a reservation to dine here while we were on our annual Father Daughter trip. The atmosphere was up beat, cozy, but the music was very loud and it was hard to hold a conversation. Our service was polite and friendly, and our waiter checked on us often. We ordered all of our dishes to have at once: the Crab Tetela, Steak Burrito, Pulpo a la Parilla, and Costra Taco con Nopalitos. Everything was beautifully presented, but we were underwhelmed with the portion size to cost ratio. Our take aways from the meal was that the burrito was too salty, the one taco you get for $15 was unfulfilling, the crab tetela was okay but not worth the $21, but we all enjoyed the Octopus, its was cook well and tasty! Summary: This was the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been at. I went here on a Saturday night at 8:30pm with a reservation. You need a reservation. We approached the hostess who was slightly gruff, probably due to all of the people who come without knowing they need a reservation. They said they were slightly behind and they would come and get us when the table was ready. We were maybe early, but there's zero space to wait inside. The reservation does email you saying it's only for 1.5 hours. But it was maybe 3 minutes later when the table was ready. There's left enough space between tables that you don't feel squished but is no means spacious. In the summer the patio is open. Maybe they take out a couple tables from inside. Ideally one day they could winterize the patio. We got the $12 guacamole, which wasn't a ton of chips or guacamole, enough for 1-2 people but it was amazing. The chill ash wasn't spicy but tasty. The Tepache de Piña was almost a non sweet black tea with lemon. The Coliflor en Sikil Pak was amazing. I was close to licking that plate in front of everyone. The sikil was a new flavor that I can't well describe. It was only $16.60. Get this dish!! The green part isn't guac and is very spicy. Be careful.
