My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here tonight. We had the fried calamari and the flounder with crab meat. We alsi shared a Caesar salad. All of the food was delicious. Bread was served with olive spread and pesto. The calamari was crispy and tasty. The flounder and crab was served with a caper piccata sauce. The fish was so tender and crab meat just made it over the top. The atmosphere is excellent and is like having a little piece of Italy right here in Flanders. read more

The restaurant accommodated the 2 of us, with no reservations, for dinner. We had wine (moscato, and Chardonnay), the seafood bisque and fabulous dinners (see pics). We chanced upon Mia Nonna as we were driving around looking for a new place to try and I am glad we found it. The restaurant is charming with ample parking and seating both inside and outside, conviniently located off 206 in Chester/Flanders. Pleasant ambiance. The food was fresh and delicious and the portions are generous. The beet and goat cheese salad had red and golden beets, spinach and tossed with the right amount of dressing. They whipped up a lovely pasta with vegetables and vodka sauce- did not skimp on the veges. The creme brûlée was served at the perfect temperature- delicious custard and crunchy top. I want to call out the warm bread with these two delicious spreads that they served at the start. It is not a BYOB - They have a wine and cocktail menu, which is good because I don't think there is a liquor store close by. The staff is pleasant and attentive. It was the end of the day on Saturday but the service did not falter. read more

We'd heard about this new Italian restaurant on Rt 206 in Chester and had been looking forward to dining here. This week, we had the opportunity. This is the location of the old farm to table White Birch. Inside, the decor is very simple. To start, we were served a small antipasto dish which was complimentary and very nice. The restaurant has a liquor license, this is not a BYOB. After ordering glasses of wine, we received our entrees. I chose the lasagna with Bolognese. The dish was simple, but tasty. I'd say we agreed the food was good, not spectacular. No raves here, but no complaints either. Service was friendly. Prices reasonable. read more

Always looking for new places we decided to try Mia's. So glad we did! The place has a very warm vibe. Very pretty. Great bar area. Every person we came across was super nice. I ordered the gnocchi in a pink cream sauce. It was delicious. We also had spicy linguine with shrimp. Also delicious. Normally we don't do dessert but since everything was so good we had to try. My husband and I love going to Mia Nonnas Cucina especially during weekdays. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. The gnocchi is super fresh and decadent in the pink sauce with mozzarella. Their veal is always perfectly cooked, no matter the dish. Just had their wings and they were superb. Inside the restaurant, the decor is beautiful and spacious. Drinks are well made and everything is always so very neat and clean. You can't go wrong here. Mia Nonna's Cucina has just opened in a location on 206 that had previously been closed for years. The interiors have been spruced up and the rooms are lovely. I hope that the restaurant makes it, for the dishes show great promise, if not completeness upon execution. In addition, the wait staff is new and still working out their service kinks. We were a large party and, in general, we enjoyed our meals. I have experienced many brand new high end restaurants like this over the years. They offer great promise upon opening and I have learned to be patient and give them a year or so to work out the bugs. I am only in Chester once a year, so I will be excited to see how Mia Nonna's Cucina will be doing next year. I hope for the best because I love fine dining. One final note is that this review was written four months after our visit there, so it encapsulates my general thoughts rather than noting specific dishes. read more

I will give this place three stars because they are starting out and the owner and his brother waiter were working really hard. They were also very friendly and attentive. In all honesty, I'd give the food two stars. The risotto balls were excellent, complementary antipasto was a nice gesture, and the bindi dessert and drinks were good. However, the entrees were meh. Hopefully, they can hire a cook who can cook real Italian/Italian American food, or they will not be able to complete with all the BYOB places down the street in Peapack and Gladstone. read more

My wife and I gave it a try last week. We both had specials. She had lobster ravioli in a light pink sauce; also included 4 nice sized scallops and a good amount of crab meat. It was quite good - I would recommend the kitchen to do a nice sear on the scallops but other than that it was good. I had veal and shrimp served over linguine. This to me needs some work. The sauce wasn't that interesting - a change there would elevate the dish. That aside we will definitely go again and try something different. A very nice ambience. Servers and staff were very nice and welcoming. The salad was plentiful but just not flavorful. Bread was unremarkable. I think someone said it was toasted. Four of us each had own own entree. Two were initially served. Then 5 mins later the other two came out. The server had no idea who order which dish. I had chicken parm. The chicken was good. The pasta not so plentiful. It could not have been more than 2 square inches of spaghetti. Ask for extra. None of the deserts were baked on premises. I also ordered a double espresso. I think it was made in a kuerig machine. I took one sip. The servers never asked why. In the end, you live and learn I guess. Was part of a group lunching here early December weekday. I ordered the Veal dish minus the mushrooms and found the meat extremely tough to cut. IN addition the mixed salad was swimming in the house dressing so much that its texture was more like a sour tasting soup than a real salad. I also found the waiting time between courses was long and this was a surprise considering there was only two other patrons in the building. Have eaten here twice and loved the food each time. Service is very good. The Bronzino with crab is particularly good. The crab is served almost as a side as opposed to being heavily breaded and 'stuffed' into the Bronzino. We visited Mia Nonna's on March 4, 2024. My wife and a good friend ate at Mia Nonna's yesterday. I have never given a restaurant a review because I never felt compelled to. That changed yesterday. The first thing we noticed was the fantastic attitude of the staff. Eager and constantly at our service. Then there was the food. Excellent and generous portions. And served HOT! First, we started with an order of the Fresh Fried Calamari. Shared 3 ways it was excellent. I had the veal saltimbocca. As another reviewer commented, I got two very large portions of veal, pounded so thin it was almost as thin as the prosciutto. Served with broccoli, carrots, and roasted potatoes. One of my favorites when dining Italian. This was one of the best. My wife had the special veal dish and my friend had the penne alla scampi. Everything was excellent. We finished with dessert, home made creme brûlée, spumoni bomba (strawberry pistachio and chocolate gelato covered with chocolate). The wait staff was excellent and always there meeting our needs. And equally important to seniors with hearing aids, it was quiet with gentle background music. A very pleasant dining experience. We have definitely added Mia Nonna's to our "weekend night out" list. We went to Mia Nonna's on a Tuesday night and the service was excellent from the minute we stepped through the door. We enjoyed a truffle rice ball appetizer, the penne with shrimp scampi and chicken parm. Everything was very good and generous portions. I took my leftover penne home and had a healthy sized lunch the next day. For dessert we had a cannoli and a cream brule - they were out of the spumoni bomba which was disappointing. My party of 3 had a fabulous experience here on Friday night. Our server was attentive and we enjoyed the bread pre-dinner with a little pesto which was presented when we sat down. The Veal Saltimbocca, that 2 of us ordered was amazing with the veal pounded almost as thin as the prosciutto, and a fabulous sauce! The lasagna bolognese was also delicious. We will definitely return to try several other items. We shared a nice bottle of Malbec, and I also enjoyed a delicious Woodford Reserve Manhattan. Delicious! I ordered the penne scampi, my husband ordered the blackened salmon, and my mom ordered the bronzino special. We also had the artichoke appetizer.
