i am quite surprised to see high ratings. My husband and i visited the bakery twice. The staff was very nice and quick to help. The first time we went we sat down (they have waiter serve which was nice and different). What disturbed me was that the waiter was using windex to clean wooden tables. That is not sanitary! During our two visits we ordered in total a piece of strawberry shortcake, Red Velvet cheesecake, a salted caramel cupcake, slice of pumpkin pie and pecan pie. For drinks we had coffee, hot strawberry tea, and a latte. The drinks were good/average, definitely nothing special for the price. I also noticed this weird smell coming from the expresso machine they have. It was a very strong smell of feces and it made me feel a little sick about drinking the latte. i enjoyed the strawberry shortcake slice because it wasn't too sweet but over all it was quite soggy and the strawberries in between the layers were turning dark. I assume the slice wasn't very fresh. The cupcake was disappointing all together. It was dry and tasted like freezer. Not to mention that it was just a vanilla cupcake with grainy vanilla buttercream and a little dollop of caramel on top. The red velvet cheesecake was average definitely more edible then the pies. It is just red velvet cake with plain cheesecake in between. i thought $6 for that was way over priced. I would say the pumpkin pie and the pecan pie was the worst part of the experience. if i hadn't brought the pie i would of gave this bakery two stars but i did buy the pies and they are gross. They tasted like an out of a box recipe that had been frozen...defrosted...and kept in the fridge for weeks after. everything was off. It tasted bland, grainy, dry, it had weird colors..etc i do not recommend these pies. If you want good pie near smith street i suggest Betty's Bakery. This place is such a disappointment that i made this account just to express how i feel about this place. read more

Whenever I'm in the area I can never resist stopping in for a piece of the peanut butter chocolate mouse cake. I've also had cupcakes on a few occasions that I found to be really yummy. I've been back 3 times since and its been quite good Atmosphere (3) Clean, not too crowded but kind of sterile. Better suited for takeout Food (4) - Pumpkin cheesecake (4+), chocolate chip cookie (4+ - chewy, borderline doughy), Oreo cupcake (4), vanilla cupcake (4), coffee cake (3 - very good cake but needs more topping!), apple strudel cheesecake (1 - this was from a year or two ago; in retrospect, it appears to have been an anomaly). Service (3-) Ordering from the counter is a little haphazard because there doesn't appear to be a line so people coming after you can end up getting their order filled first. The one time I ate-in, I waited 15 minutes before having to flag down a bus boy to get service. I visited Mia's bakery this afternoon looking to pick up some pastries for my family's get together. I spent about $120 on 12 or so slices that were the worst desserts I have ever eaten. The tiramisu was very sour, creme brûlée smelled like eggs., the bread pudding was just stale bread., let's not even talk about the cheesecake. The strawberries and the fake whipped cream on the strawberry shortcake was just a complete embarrassment. I gave them one star only to show how badly we need a bakery in this neighborhood.!! read more

I used to love this place but after a terrible experience, I'm still holding a grudge 5 months later. It used to be our go to place in the neighborhood did reliably delicious, decadent desserts and we used to recommend it to everyone looking for a not-too-fancy bakery that has everything. I ordered a birthday cake from here in February a week in advance with a specific inscription. I paid in full over the phone so everything was taken care of. When I arrived to pick it up, it was obvious that they had forgotten about my order, as there was a noticeable scramble to figure out what to do. Instead of apologizing for forgetting, they figured they'd just give me a cake that they had on hand, hastily inscribed behind the counter. As if that wasn't bad enough, when we got home and cut the cake hours later, it was FROZEN SOLID. Do you know how embarrassing it is to serve guests a frozen birthday cake?? All this with zero explanation and zero apology. If they had just told me the truth, I would have been disappointed but I would have understood. Mistakes happen, but you have to own up to them. As a neighborhood business, Mia's revealed a lot about themselves through this one incident: they don't care about their customers, they don't care about their product, and they don't care about their reputation. read more

Huge variety of cakes, cookies, pastries, cupcakes and desserts which all look amazing in the window but unfortunately aren't particularly good. On the positive side, the place is attractively decorated, staff are very friendly and they have a cute coffee bar. But the cakes are quite bland and the frosting has a very plastic margarine-ey taste. I've tried four of their cakes now and they've all been suffering from the same lack of freshness. I have walked by this bakery for months with my daughter and commented on how good everything looks. I read the reviews, and should have used my common sense. I went in to a bakery that serves a multitude of different things, and was hoping to buy a good eclair, my son's favorite pastry, for his birthday. We randomly found this store while walking through the neighborhood. The pies in the window looked great so we decided to try a piece. That was one of the best ideas we had so far because the cake is delicious here. I had the oreo cake and it was really tasty and very moist. One of the better pies I've had. I'm giving this place 5 stars although I only tried 2 items, they were both beyond delicious. Last minute I found out it was a co-workers birthday and we needed a cake. We usually go to Court St. Pastry and get a cannoli cake. Everyone was tired of cannoli so I googled bakeries near me and Mia's bakery popped up. I figured we would try someplace different but was not expecting much. I went in and bought a 7 layer cake and the extremely helpful, very friendly girl behind the counter wrote Happy Birthday on it for me. Upon checkout I purchased 1 honey nut cookie that they had by the register. I told her not to put it in a bag and ate it while I walked to the car. The cookie was moist and delicious and tasted exactly as advertised of sweet honey and crunchy nuts. I had to stop myself from going to buy a few more remembering I was about to have cake shortly. After we sang happy birthday and cut the cake everyone was raving about it and asking where I bought it. This place is clean, cute and delicious. Since my office is only 2 blocks away, looks like we found a new bakery for birthday cakes and to satisfy our sweet tooth. Can't wait to try other items from Mia's bakery. If you are in the area give it a try. You won't be sorry. I guess I should mention it's a little pricey but it is in downtown Brooklyn so everything is pricey. read more
