I had an amazing experience at Cousin John's Café & Bakery in Brooklyn. We ordered the pancetta eggs Benedict, and it was outstanding. the pancetta was perfectly cooked and wonderfully savory. We also tried the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was refreshing, and the ideal compliment to the meal. The service was surprisingly impressive. The staff was attentive and kind, bringing water right away and offering complimentary chocolate raisin bread with cranberry jam (available only on Sat/Sun 9am-3pm), which was such a thoughtful and delicious fall touch. The bakery section is incredible. They offer everything from cakes and tarts to cannolis made to order, crème brûlée, crumb cake, mini key lime pies, lobster-tail pastries and everything looked absolutely amazing and high quality. All in all, Cousin John's delivers excellent food, exceptional service, and an impressive bakery selection. Highly recommended I'll definitely be back!

We walked in after dinner for dessert. They have plenty of seating and the place was basically empty on a weekday. I ordered the lemon meringue which was good and on the sweeter side. My friend got the creme brulee, which was not good. I would only come back if I was in the neighborhood and needed a casual spot to sit/hangout after dinner.

Have to agree with all the reviews regarding poor customer service. Staff seem like they couldn't have cared less about customer satisfaction. The manner and approach leave much more to be desired. Customer requests are sourly accommodated. There is no care with handling merchandise. It's just dessert, but when you're paying market price for anything, you expect some level of service. The overall experience is off putting. What a shame, considering how the desserts are worth returning for. The baked goodies are delicious--chocolate eclairs, pies, cakes, pastries--everything is high quality and reliably tasty. Not too sweet either, which is important. The cakes and pies are on a sweeter side, but pastries are more decadent and balanced in flavor. Lovely decor in the winter--it's a pleasure to enjoy dinning indoors.

I loved how cozy the atmosphere was at Cousin John's! My mom and I came here for Sunday brunch, and we both agreed it reminded us of my college town with the way the restaurant was set up. We sat at a the counter, but there were also a lot of tables. The servers were great and got our food out to us super quick! We both got the eggs florentine- one of their brunch specials on the weekends. It was delicious, and everything I needed in a breakfast. The croissant was fresh and flakey and paired well with the poached eggs, hollaindaise, and sautéed spinach. My mom got the breakfast potatoes and I got the salad. I loved the flavor of the breakfast potatoes. Usually I dip them in ketchups but I didn't feel like they needed it with the flavor from the tomatoes, peppers, and onions they were cooked with. I will definitely come back to Cousin John's cafe and bakery. It's the perfect place to get brunch with family and friends.

I can't believe it's been 11 years since I've been to this bakery again. Time flies. My husband and I stopped by this bakery last night to pick up some desserts. I'm always in the mood for something sweet...24/7. They had display cases with scrumptious cookies, cakes, pie-like desserts, tarts and creme brulee. I bought a blueberry tart for hubby and a key lime mousse pie for me. We both enjoyed our desserts very much. I would definitely buy desserts from this place again next time I'm in the area. The desserts were reasonably priced. The service was excellent. The staff behind the counter were helpful and professional.

Chocolate mousse sheet cake for 100

I had a party for my wife 65th birthday and her retirement on Sunday. On Friday we found out that the people who were supposed to provide the case weren't going to be able to win (that's another review). Call up Cousin Johns on Friday and told them we needed a sheet cake for 100 for Sunday afternoon. The answer? No problem! They made an absolutely gorgeous cake that was also totally delicious. I think it's the best sheet cake I've ever had a party like that. They put two beautiful pictures that we had in fondant on the cake. When I called to pick up, they said, would you like us to write something too and they added at the last minute at the last minute, no problem no extra cost. Thanks for making a special day perfect!

A must place to visit! Scrumptious food! Great service! Wonderful ambience! The owner is very hospitable Breakfast and Lunch!! The best potato salad ever amazing chicken salad and the eggs Florentine on a delicious buttery croissant was amazing. We could not leave without buying a few pies and cookies .

Had to wait around in the area before driving someone home. It was around 7p. Searched for a pastry and tea kind of place. So glad I found this charming spot. Amazing home baked goods and coffee and tea selections. They also have a diner type menu for meals. Very cozy chill spot. Wish something like this was where I live. Friendly low key staff. Clean. A good amount of seating Definitely worth seeking out.

Some items are good and some are really dry. The brownie had no moistness and it was super dry. Seems like their quality is declining over time

The pastries are always good. I have been going there 30 years. The first was for a birthday cake for my 7 year old daughter.

You pay $8 per person for three hours, which seems absolutely incredible. They have delicious bubble teas and some light bites. They have teas and coffees too. Super shout out to the woman working there today (12/29) because my little cousin is not an adventurous eater and she recommended the lychee boba and gave him a sample. He never tries things but did and really enjoyed it. I am so thankful for everyone's kindness who worked there. A cool atmosphere with lots of meetups and games going on. Huge positive that you can make a reservation. I can't wait to come back!

The store was pretty emptied at the time, and clerk informed about pricing per hour for game play (board and card games). I decided to skip the games, since all I wanted was some food to-go. Got the pastry and a latte drink. The pastry was a bit off; cheese filling was too sour and the pastry just didn't taste that fresh. The matcha latte drink wasn't good neither; very small amount of Matcha flavor, but plenty of milk. Will probably come back for game play only

People have left some odd reviews of this place, including a one-star review for the restaurant…read moreapparently being highly politicized--a vibe I neither felt nor could visually identify within or without the establishment. I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
