Hubs and I decided to check out Marion and stopped by Mica Brewery. It's a very chill environment, with local love. We sat at the bar and there is space downstairs as well as upstairs to hang out. It doesn't serve food, but there are a variety of local snacks from cupcakes to pretzels to pork rinds. Flights are available and the price depends on the drink, four 4-ounce pours. The ginger beer was my favorite. Refreshing and pure taste. I learned it is done as a labor of love. Both IPAs are solid. We appreciate the 5% ABV range that most beers had. Stop in and check it out! This was our second trip to Mica. Great, relaxed atmosphere. We generally opt for flights to try as many different beers as we can on each brewery stop. They have a little bit of everything, IPAs, brown ale, stout, seltzer, sours and even a nitro. Give it a try if you are in Marion. read more

Stopped in for a quick drink between hiking Catawba falls and heading to my campsite at Lake James. Grabbed one drink - it was just what I needed after a hike. I sat on the small patio out front (they have a larger one down a side alley) and enjoy some sun. It's a little hidden down a side street (only saw it because of a sandwich board on the main road) but, I would recommend checking it out. read more

Took some time and visited the Nebo area last year to getaway with my wife and the pups and came across this great local brewery! Staff was super friendly and helpful in talking about all the options and types of beer they have, smaller tap room but they do have a big back area with food trucks. The IPAs I had were delicious and had great flavor, even took a Crowler to go back to the cabin for the weekend, if your in town for the weekend do yourself a favor and stop by and drink a beer with some friendly locals! read more

Won't you take me to, Mica Town? Na na na, na na...na Wow - Marion has its first brewery! The building is pretty cool - the perfect size brick, freestanding building with just enough room for the tanks and a small"ish" tap room. It's right in the alleyway off Main Street. Brand new - just opened this past New Year's Eve. The owners, one of which is the brewer, were there during my visit and seemed pretty easy going and friendly; they said that the Kolsch is currently the most popular and I'll definitely try it next visit. During my visit I had three beers and liked them in this order: Nebo Pale Ale, the Blueberry Pale Ale and the Kitsuma IPA. The Pale was super smooth and light on the IBUs. The Blueberry was served room temp and non-carbonated from a firkin. It was unexpectedly tasty and different from what I'm used to. The Kitsuma was just too light for me (didn't pack that IPA punch) and tasted closer to a session IPA - I'm also not a big El Dorado hop fan. Again, personal choice but someone who doesn't normally go for IPAs might like this one. Beers come in sizes 4,8,16 ozs + growler fills. They'll fill theirs or yours as long as it's clean. They serve heavy snacks/chips and have a tabletop popcorn machine. Great addition to Downtown Marion! read more

Checked out this new spot on the way home from the Pine this afternoon. This little gem is such a neat spot! What friendly owners + Tasty beer--Liked everything we tried on our flight! The brown, the stout, & the ginger beers were our FAVS! The brewery is so well thought out and decorated! The metal work decor really made everything blend so nicely! Loved being able to order 4oz, 8oz, and 16oz pours so you can try multiple and not have to commit to one type! Seriously Genius * all breweries should do this! So much planning and hard work has gone into this place and it shows! Walked away with 3 growlers, snacks, and some cool merch! Solid little brewery making Great beers. I had a flight that included a rauchbier smoked beer,a gose, thier cask habernero wheat and a ginger beer. All were solid! The rauch was smoked just enough. The habernero had the right heat punch. The gose was mild in its punch. And the ginger was clean with a kick. The gal serving beers was awesome and friendly. Told me a lot about Marion and what the brewery is doing to benefit the community. read more

This place is awesome!! Right downtown, excellent beer with wide variety, plus nitro cold brew coffee on tap. Free popcorn! Upstairs game area, nice outdoor patio, also lots of nonalcoholic options! Community BBQ with charcoal grills and utensils provided for Sunday's this summer...just byofood/coals, also have yoga events and running club meets Wednesday's. Hard-to-find spot -- Brown Drive is an alley that is unmarked on either side of this business. On Main Street the alley is immediately north of a coffee shop, where a convex mirror is mounted on a pole. On the next street west, the alley is just barely south of the McDowell News; you will find a Brown Drive sign on the right side of the street, opposite of where you will be looking. But once you find it the beer is good. Whoever did the business's graphics deserves a bonus. Great images and metalwork cutouts. read more
