We are in Asheville for spring break and have visited three breweries thus far, with Whistle Hop leading the way big time over Wicked Weed and Salt Mule! Great atmosphere with mini golf, a soccer area, and disc golf. Food truck on site as well. My wife got the Mango lassi and the Imperial Sour called Percy. I got a flight which included the Marshmallow Dunkel, Peach, Banana Wheat and a Coffee stout. The Marshmallow dunkel was my favorite! Great selection of beers that don't all taste the same. Second time to Asheville and knew I had to come back. Probably the best beer in the area (and yes we had a lot). Lots of creativity in flavor profiles and styles, definitely something for everyone. I love the train theme and bartenders were helpful and friendly. Plus other patrons had cute dogs, nice kids, and were very welcoming. I think you can tell a lot about a business by their patrons! I saw this brewery on Instagram two years ago and had been wanting to visit ever since. Having done marketing for a train service, and a love of craft beer, it was the perfect pairing! They had a good size selection of beer, so I'm sure you can find something you like, along with a few seltzers. I got a flight and it came in the most fun train car. Loved it! Very friendly bartender, as well, which I appreciate. I was there on a dreary, rainy Sunday right when it opened at noon so it wasn't crowded. However, given the outdoor seating area that has a slide and area for the kids to run around I bet it gets busy with children (not my thing, but good info for parents). There is a pretty big area to sit and have a drink. There are no waitresses waiting tables you have to walk up to the counter to order your drink and bring it back to the table. The beer I had was pretty good. They served a lot of locally made beers. You can bring your dog, they are pet friendly. Seriously one of my favorite breweries anywhere. We live in Florida and I count the days until I can make another trip back to this place. Ambiance is great and so are the drinks. Always friendly faces. We always seem to miss the food trucks, but a lot of our visits wind up being when it's awful cold out. This place is awesome. I was there with friends, and we all got taster trays, so I was able to try a bunch of their beers. The only one that didn't do for me had marshmallow, but the rest were really solid. I especially liked the Golden Jacket hazy IPA, and the Percy imperial sour - both were amazing. The other sours were good as well, and they weren't super funky like some sours - more tart and refreshing. And they hide the high ABV well, so be careful. Putt putt golf for free, and mini soccer field for the kids (and drunk adults). Just a cool vibe, and all the beers are brewed on site. Definitely worth a visit, and not far from Asheville proper. Stellar spot for all! Go here! There is parking (woot woot) as it is located on the outskirts of town in Fairview. Still close enough for a side trip as it's only 10-15 mins away. The outdoor spaces have multiplied over the years I swear. The concept started cool and only became cooler. The main buildings are of old train cabooses (hence the name) but they really swank-ed (is that a word?) then up. Outdoor seating is open and lovely. Indoor tables and spaces are cozy, low lit and adorned with wooden furniture. Bathrooms and space is inclusive. Non gendered single bathrooms. Super patient and friendly bartenders who are kind and knowledgeable. They really cater to kiddos too. That's great because at 34 most of my friends have them. They have slides, playgrounds and random structures to wear your kiddos out. I got a fig beer and loved it. Not too much of a honey taste as sometimes that gives me a headache. Carmel-ley and flavorful. Robust but not too heavy. I also sampled their hibiscus and it was light and delightful. Floral but in a natural way. Lots of my friends love this space and their beers and for good reason! Glad I got to try it- will def be back! read more

This brewery was actually recommended to us by a bartender at Cedric's Tavern on the Biltmore Estate. When he shared with us that it was all made out of train cars we knew we had to check it out. Upon first glance it looks a little eclectic that's because there's so much to do! Not only is there space for disc golf but also outdoor Jenga a huge fire pit mini soccer for kids as well as multiple other outdoor activities including a bocce ball court. It was a little weird because it's in the middle of the neighborhood so you have residential homes right next-door to it. There is parking in front, but you do have to walk up some steps to get to the top to order your brew. He started with the Kolsch and I started with the south of the border Porter (chocolate (light) base with mexican chili) Both were incredibly tasty. While we sat under the radiant heat enjoying the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains we also decided that we wanted to have a flight To taste more of their beers! We ended up trying the blackberry Mojito Hydromel, the lemoncello Creamsicle ale, the Froot Loops milkshake IPA, and the Percy. They were certainly tasty but did not lead us to want to drink a whole one of any of them. The smaller servings were perfect. We stopped here on our way to Chimney Rock and it did not disappoint. I had the Tropical West Coast and the Pale Ale and both were very well made, and delicious. The brewery was built in a train car, which was pretty cool, but we spent most of the time in their amazing outside area since we had our dogs. The outside area has several levels with a wide range of activities from mini golf, a small soccer field, disc golf putting, and much more. I loved that the picnic tables had anchor to tie your dogs. A great brewery in an area known for their breweries. I tried a few beers before settling on their Banana Wheat, not only the name of the beer, but the description of it, as well. The Banana Wheat was simply a fantastic beer. The banana taste was subtle, but definitely there and added a depth to this beer. I thought it was also cool that the taproom was literally a train caboose and they all have a small train car, as well. Between these two there is a wooden patio with a few tables. It is great to see these craft breweries becoming such a popular thing. Breweries have become a strong part of the nightlife of a community, offering beer connoisseurs a chance to sample a smorgasbord of this beloved foamy beverage. I also like that many of these breweries offer a more European vibe, where families frequent them, where there is often food and it seems as well dogs are also welcome at the majority of them. This is definitely a good thing and this brewery is a great reflection of this scene. Came for great live music, some brewed beer and hopefully delicious pizza from the Tin Can Pizza food truck. The live music was great! Spiro Nicotopoulos played some heart felt original Americana music. The beer was a bit disappointing for our friends who were looking for something good and hoppy; only several fruity versions of an IPA without the hoppy kick. The pizza truck was quite expensive for what we ordered, $27 for a very thin 16" half ingredient, hardly any cheese pizza that took almost 30 min to make. We love this place and have been here often but without the great live music tonight, it would have been a disappointment. With all the breweries in Asheville, this one stood out due to the train theme taproom. It's kid and pet friendly, with entertainment for the whole family. They have a ton of outdoor games such as putt putt, disc golf, connect 4, a playground and slide. There's plenty of spaces out indoor and outdoor seating along with a caboose perfect timing climb up and take pictures. They had an amazing selection of beer on tap, with a handful of their beers being winners in beer competitions. I tried their pineapple vanilla milkshake IPA, after reading it was a QUADRUPLE meta winner in the 2020 US Open Beer Championship, and it was a wonderful blend of hopping and fruity. Wife is GF and they had ciders and other options for her taste. But honestly, its 2020, even out in the sticks its tough to throw a rock without hitting a brewery that can do that. But someplace that meets those checks AND you can bring your dogs and kids and everyone will have as much fun as you...thats a rare find. They have a slide, free mini golf (actually pretty good course too), bocce court, mini bowling, frisbee golf, fire pit. Awesome place. If I had a few hundred K, Id try to replicate.
