A fairly decent brewery, but not the best I've been to in Asheville. It was super hot the day we visited and I decided to get a cider. Unfortunately it was in a bottle and not on tap. Plenty of seats but it was pretty much empty but that helped with getting the drink quickly. Would I come here again.... dunno. read more

It was a stinking hot day in Asheville, so we ducked into this brewery to cool off and finally give it a try. The place is huge, and I liked that they also offer cocktails, which is a nice option if beer isn't your thing. With as hot as it was that day, I do wish they had some fans running, but oh well. My beer was cool, but not ice cold--and I'm one of those people who loves my beer absolutely freezing. That said, the wheat beer itself was really delicious and easy to drink. Bartender was nice enough but not exactly outgoing. Got the Friday Recession special which was a standard hot dog, bag of chips and a beer for $8! Hard to beat that deal. Ordered the Bed of Nails brown ale and it was a pretty good brown. I prefer my brown ales a little on the lighter side and this one was perfect. Hot dog was decent. A little boring on the inside but has a hidden tiki bar back in the back. Met some really nice locals that ended up buying us a second beer which was really nice of them! read more

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. Gotta say, we really like this funky taproom in the South Slope. It's a fun place to have an excellent beer and a hot dog on Tuesday trivia night. Nice folks too. They even have a "secret" tiki bar in the back, that you'd never know was there. read more

Laid-back, quiet spot on a Thursday afternoon. The bartender was great--friendly and knowledgeable. I tried a few beers he suggested, but the Coffee Porter with its coffee and chocolate flavors was my favorite. Also got some great tips on places to visit nearby. Last stop on my quick trip to Asheville. Sadly amost 2 months after Helene many breweries were still closed, granted it was a Monday. But fortunately a few of my favorites were open and welcoming guests in. So before wanted to support those still there! Hi Wire has always has some great beers, though I had not been to this location in the past. Sadly their other location with the beer garden sustain a lot of damage during the storm, but I hope they will be able to recover. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. This is a good spot and I like the seating they have that faces the street. They don't serve food but we ordered from Bear's BBQ which is just around the corner and brought it into Hi-Wire. All of the beers were good and the bartender was friendly. Make sure you walk to the back area where the tiki bar is, it's super interesting to see! read more

We don't get brown ales often (or not often enough)and when we do we generally like them but this particular brown ale was so exceptionally good! Flavor features that you can look for with this beer is malty, toffee, sweetness along with a smooth texture. Cool vibe with a wide variety of beers. You can't go wrong, especially if you like dark beers. They've got a line of 10W-40 and even 20W-50 beers (named like a motor oil but FAR FROM IT!) They are delicious. We were the only one in the place late on a Monday night. Kind of cool but the bartender wasn't too friendly. (Guess just wanted to go home). Thank goodness they were open. Snow had at least half the businesses in Asheville closed. I was disappointed that the Tiki Bar was closed due to the place closing early that day. WE went for the Tiki Bar. I brought a group of non-beer drinkers and that kind of messed things up for the group. I did a flight of beers and thought mine were great. My daughter got the only cider they sell which was an apple flavored and I thought that was good also. One of our crowd got an IPA and did not like it. I also tried his. I almost think it was a little skunky. I think just a bad batch and worth coming another time to give another try and hopefully on a day Tiki Easy is open so the rest of my friends will want to stick around for a while. Lovely and lively local brewery that has since blown up. I think there are a few of them now- Asheville and beyond. Honestly I do not like their beers. So so hoppy and kind of lacking in diversity. The bed of nails is my go to if I had to choose. Last time I went I opted for a NA beer and lemonade as I just did not want a beer. Some of my ipa loving friends find their beer ok but nobody I know is really passionate about the flavor. In my opinion, the winning aspect here is the space. All their breweries are open yes cozy. Wood tables and chairs, cool lights and spaces for all. The staff is always pleasant too. read more

Nice staff. Cool mural. I was able to do some smaller-sized pours for tastings. Hi-Wire does a LOT of IPAs which are NOT my thing, but I like trying new beers and visiting breweries, so the rainbow burst on the front of Hi-Wire made me want to visit despite the fact that I wasn't sure I would like anything on tap. But they had some sour-adjacent options and some interesting sounding dark beers that were worth a try. I visited mid-day on a week day and was one of very few people there, and they had the windows and garage doors open (Covid concern actions) and it was a lovely time. I maintain they don't do a lot of beers that appeal to me...but I would absolutely visit again, should I be with someone interested in going. read more

Lots of beer options. The dragon fruit sour and 9th anniversary Bulleit barrel aged beers were both good. The beertender was friendly and the space was your standard brewery setup. It's really close to downtown so it was an easy walk from my hotel on Battery Park. They sell half pours so I was able to try a couple of things. I did ask for a taste of the pickle beer and I have to say it was much better than other pickle beers I know. Much more mellow so if you are debating, give it a try! read more

I think this place is pretty solid. They have a wide variety of brews on tap and the atmosphere is really nice. They have tastings available in flights as well if you want to try a lot of flavors all at once. I had a flight as well as the Hazy IPA on tap. The tasting area is definitely on the smaller side as far as breweries go and it may be difficult to find a seat at some points in the night. It is definitely worth the visit if you are headed through Asheville! read more

My fourth brewery stop of my initial trip to Asheville, Hi-Wire is another chill hangout that produces great beer in an area that's full of them. What separates Hi-Wire from the rest of the pack is their ability to demonstrate themselves as a neighborhood hangout -- walking distance from the residential areas down the street. Hi-Wire is one of more than 10 breweries located in the South Slope of Asheville, which for the brewhead is like Heaven comes everyday, but for the newbie or fair-weather craft beer enthusiast, it can be difficult to discern one for the other. In addition to the come-as-you-are attitude radiating from the interior to people working the bar slinging suds, Hi-Wire makes great craft beer as evident in their Enchanter Baltic Porter and Black Rice Grisette. The brewery does a great job of covering a wide variety of styles in addition to the aforementioned beers like their Uprisin' Hefeweizen and Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh IPA -- try saying the latter five times really fast. Their highlight while I was there, without a doubt, was their Horchata 10W-40 Imperial Stout -- chocolatey, creamy, vanilla goodness that is so satisfying and delicious to the last drop. So good that I brought back to Florida a four-pack of the American Imperial Stout to share with other fellow brewheads like myself. I recommend Hi-Wire to anyone that enjoys great craft beer around chill, down-to-earth people. The industrial, no-frills interior is very inviting to anyone walking down the street wanting a craft beer. The people who frequent Hi-Wire are locals. There are no gimmicks, there are no bells and whistle. There are just people who want to hang out and enjoy good beer. read more

S'mores porter is my favorite beer!! It's phenomenal smooth beer, chocolate and yummy rich flavors. I love this beer, it's like the best part of sweet and savory.
