Revised review: I was surprised today, after being a really satisfied dental patient of Dr. Michael Augustine DDS for a decade, to learn he does not allow service animals in his clinic. When asked why not, he replied, "I've never messed with it, there are all these people who claim their dogs are service animals when they really aren't." Dr. Augustine seemed totally ignorant of ADA regulations. I advised him to educate himself, fired him, and left. I was especially disappointed with Charlotte, his scheduler (who has invariably behaved professionally and with a smile in the past); she turned into a very poor version of herself... impatient, rude, argumentative & disrespectful... when I asked to speak with The Boss. An older, dark haired woman (waiting by the door to bring us back, and who I did not recognize), held my gaze with THE MOST hateful facial expression; if looks could kill, I'd be toast! Yeah, I find sheer ignorance of ADA regulations and resultant abuse of a patient's civil rights, to be less than attractive qualities in a dental practice. read more

What can I say? I loved Dr. Blackburn and he entrusted his practice to be taken over by someone just as trustworthy and calming. Dr. Augustine speaks the truth and not only recognizes but acknowledges the many fears as a person like myself has about the dentist. You have questions? He will answer them truthfully and honestly. Even if the service I needed wasn't within his realm he referred me to a doctor of the same caliber to take care of me. He does what is best for the patient and not his pocketbook. read more

I have been a patient at this location since 2009 when it was Dr. Blackburn's practice. I was wary when Dr. Augustine took over the practice, but that quickly subsided after I met him. He is great! His dental assistant is awesome (her name is escaping me.) She handled my entire Invisilign process very professionally! I would give them 5+ stars. I even reviewed when the Yelp page was still under Dr. Blackburn. This review is not about them. It is about their receptionist, Charlotte. I have noticed over the past year that she has decidedly changed her manner to be very curt and not at all friendly the last 2 times I had my teeth cleaned. I chalked both of them up to bad days, but this morning I arrived to my 7am cleaning, and realized that I did not have my new dental insurance info with me. She immediately took a nasty tone and informed me that I would have to self-pay. She did offer to call my medical insurance in the event that they were on in the same, but by her demeanor, I was clearly putting her out. I have been a patient since 2009 and fully covered by dental insurance. I have also paid several thousand dollars for braces. There have been zero payment issues. I know that it is completely my fault for forgetting my insurance info, but Charlotte could have handled the situation much better. In her words "there is nothing I can do for you." Here's an idea. How about allowing me to get my teeth cleaned and call her her with my insurance information as soon as I get home? Due to this kind of customer service, my husband and I will no longer be seeing Dr. Augustine, or the rest of their wonderful staff. There are plenty of other dentists in the area. I will make sure to have out my Delta Dental card when I make an appointment for a cleaning at a new office:) read more

I've been coming to this dental office since 2015 and they have always been so professional and gone the extra mile to help with advice and explain all of their procedures and reasoning behind them. Having taken poor care of my teeth in the past (and honestly been embarrassed by my teeth), Dr. Augustine has made such a positive impact on my oral care that I don't fear the dentist like I used to. I think finding a new dentist is more than finding an experienced, talented person with a DDS. You also have to feel comfortable with the support staff during procedures, and then trust that the front desk person will be able to help you through the maze of insurance paperwork and any preauthorizations you may need. I feel supremely lucky to have just found Dr. Augustine's office - where all of these people made getting a crown last week completely painless, in every way possible. I actually have PTSD from having seven years of braces in the early 1970s. I don't do well with any dental procedures aside from cleanings, but the Office Manager, Charlotte, made sure all my insurance ducks were in a row. Nichole, the assistant, was very calming, and she stayed and talked with me while we waited for the crown to be made right there in the office. I was lucky because I didn't have to get a temporary crown and come back later. Dr. Augustine was able to scan my tooth, make the crown, and permanently attach it in less than three hours. I wear a nighttime retainer on my lower teeth, and the crown fit so well that he didn't have to remove any of the molded retainer to make it fit the same as it did before. Amazing! He has such a soothing voice, and he explains everything to you. I also highly recommend the laughing gas to take the edge off reality - I admit that I'm a baby but thank goodness they have something to help you get through it. Not a single thing caused me any pain whatsoever. If you are searching for a new dental home, give Dr. Augustine and his team a try. They kept me smiling, and that's exactly what I was looking for. I've been a patient for MANY years (even before Dr. Augustine took over) and the experience has always been great! My wife and son are patients as well. I never have to wait more than a minute or two to get called back, the hygienists are all professional and nice, and Dr. Augustine is a great doctor. Very professional and accommodating. I generally hate going to the dentist, but I feel comfortable here, the staff is very nice, and they offer you a warm neck wrap and blanket - a nice touch. I had to have a ton of work done. They figured out my exact cost after insurance, and even after having to wait 6 months to do the work, the amount didn't go up. Great staff, great dentist, location that is perfectly next to my office. When I walked in, Stephanie told me to have a seat and brought my paperwork (and a water) to me. What? No standing at a little window? Cool! I forgot my dental insurance card but enough people from my office have gone here that she pulled it up for me. I explained to Jen (the hygenist) that I wasn't quite ready to get my teeth all straightened up until I finish grad school and no one guilted me or cajoled me. They explain to the other person what you've already discussed right there in the room with you, which is nice because you don't have to repeat yourself and you can clarify anything or interject. My teeth felt really awesome after Jen's cleaning. They had little things that were nice, like a heated neck pillow and a warm washcloth afterward. Sorry, I can't give them 5 stars yet (stingy with 5 stars), but maybe...just maybe. Lucky me, I have some gum disease maintenance to do soon. read more

Dr Augustine- always super calm demeanor, never the salesman or step sell, tells you what you need, what you need to work on and just hell of a nice guy. Jennifer- super thorough cleaning but gentle as a butterfly- she has hands. Charlotte up front- just nice as she can be, gets everything handled with cheer. I'd come if they didn't but they take dental insurance and handle direct...who does that anymore? These are pro's that give you rock star treatment from the time you walk in the door till you leave. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Augustine for more than 4 years now and I have to say he is the best dentist I have ever seen. I am in my 50's and my ex-wife is a dentist so I feel like I do know a thing or two about dentists. I live a long way from his office, he is worth the drive, never been disappointed. Dr. Augustine is incredibly good, my teeth are in great shape, his prices and insurance coverage is excellent, and I look really good, he has never hurt me even by accident, not once! Every visit to his office has been courteous, professional and on time. I am on time so I expect other people to be on time; Dr. Augustine is on time, every time. Seriously....if you don't like the Dentist try Dr. Augustine...him and his staff will change your mind! Went here after so so cleanings at Authentic Smiles. This office is beautiful, clean, state of the art, and quite. I was greeted with an offer of coffee, tea, or water. I was given a warm neck pillow during my cleaning and a hot steamed cloth after for clean up. Dr. Augustine is a spot on dentist with a wonderful bed-side chair manner. They actually even make their own crowns in the office for faster and better fitting/service. Jennifer gave me the best cleaning I have had in years and she was extremely gentle. There is nothing bad that I could ever say about this office. They actually treat me as if I am one of their own family members. I originally came this practice before Dr. Blackburn retired but I was also wary of a new dentist but Dr. Augustine made it very easy for me not to leave. One of the other reasons that I stay with this office is because of Charlotte, there is never a time where she gave me grief over anything and she is always clear in the conversations that we have when I arrive. She makes me smile every time I come to the office even on days that I do not feel like smiling. Her sense of humor is wonderful indeed. read more

I grind my teeth a lot and because of that have had moderately extensive work done as I break fillings and get cavities. Due to this I've developed apprehension around dental work and wanted a patient and informative dentist. I've recently moved to the Austin area and am so glad I checked yelp for reviews, this on Michael and his staff are spot on. He explained my options, pointed out how I could save money and was very patient and frank, which I appreciated. During my actual procedure he made sure I was calm and felt in control, which helped immensely with getting through it. His staff are extremely friendly, warm, and very caring. I left feeling like I had spent quality time with lovely people, which is nuts when your getting a partial crown out in. Please check them out!! read more

Dr. Augustine and his whole staff are wonderful! I have always had extreme anxiety about going to the dentist. (I am in my 60s and have had lots of experience with dental procedures.) Everyone in the office is compassionate, professional, and organized. The quality of their work is unsurpassed. I never have to wait; they do not schedule more patients into the day, so they give each of their patients the quality time they need. Even in an emergency, they have time for me. My phone calls are always returned quickly. I am so thankful I have found them and they are here for me. My anxiety will probably never go away completely, but now it just lasts for less than a minute. I HATE going to the dentist (as I am sure most people do) but this was by far the best experience I have ever had. I am also not typically one to spend time doing a review like this but I thought this office deserved it! Both the doctor and staff are extremely helpful, friendly and professional! I would highly reccommend this office to anyone looking. As others have mentioned, the warm neck wrap and blanket is a nice touch. Besides that, the office is VERY nice and it appears that they have the latest in technology for all equipment. They also have a glass paned room that is closed off to the public but you can see where they sterilize all the equipment. It felt very clean and cozy in the office. I could go on and on! Dr. Augustine is the man. He has an awesome office with an awesome staff with full amenities (think Burts Bees and warm neck wraps and other subtle perks that make all the difference). I've been fortunate to have great dentists and Dr. Augustine is up there. Some dentists chastise you but Dr. Augustine always gave advice in a polite way. He also talks just the right amount, not too much, not too little. I lived in downtown Austin, so getting out to Bee Caves was a bit of a drive, but it was oh so worth it knowing that I was getting the best dental service in town. read more
