The hygienist is the best I have ever had, comprehensive, non-judgmental and gets the job done efficiently. I like her a lot. If you haven't seen a dentist for awhile, this is a good place to begin again. I was looking for a dentist for my 20-year-old son who recently moved to Austin. I called Dr. Scaff's office and Paige was extremely helpful. I was trying to figure out what our insurance would cover, and Paige offered to take down our information and look up exactly how much it would cost for my son to be seen there. (She didn't have to do that. Other offices I called just said, "We're an out-of-network provider for your insurance" and I just had to guess how much it would be.) Paige said, "Let me enter your info and find out how much it would be, and I'll call you back." And even though it was a busy day in their office, she did call back and give me all the info I needed. However big a chicken you are about going to the dentist, I can promise you that I am worse. I needed a crown, a cleaning, fillings...you name it. I was literally terrified. I tried going to another dentist who was very nice, but I just couldn't get through the appointment. I literally walked out before they even started. I don't even know why I am so terrified of dental work. But I am. After that awful experience, I thought I would never find a dentist who could help me, but then I met Dr Scaff. Dr. Scaff has been our family dentist, whom we love, for many years. My most recent experience was last week when I called on Monday complaining about molar bite pain, and his staff gave me an appointment for the very next day. Dr. Scaff was able to help me pinpoint which molar it was, and he also gave me instructions on how to know about how much longer I may be able to avoid a crown by showing me how to identify the seriousness of the pain the next time it occurs. Dr. Scaff then performed a minor technique of filing the bite surface to reshape my bite, so as to relieve the pressure on my bite for a while longer, and to possibly prevent a crown for several years longer. Over the years I can honestly say that Dr. Scaff's work has been superb! He has already given me a crown, and at my request, he's replaced all my old mercury filled cavities with the newest technology. Dr. Scaff is not only a fantastic dentist, but he is, also, a genuinely, very nice man. We've all noticed that his staff has stayed with him for decades. It took me a while to find a Dental Office that seemed trustworthy. After a bit of research, I decided to go with Scaff and I don't regret it! Their membership plan is reasonable and gives you plenty for your buck (x-rays, cleanings etc). As a new patient, I called for an emergency and was scheduled rapidly. My first visit was an hour long, and consisted of a thorough inspection of my teeth and gums. My issue was solved on a second appointment and suggestions offered for different health concerns to keep an eye on in the future. Things are transparent, they offer sound advice on a preferred treatment but you never feel "forced" to do it, and can work out a timeline with them. Let me start by saying that ever since I was a liitle kid, I have HATED dentists. I've had really bad experiences with those who lack any sort of bedside manner or ability to set my mind at ease and reduce pain while working on my teeth. I was recommended Dr. Scaff by a friend and was told he would change my opinion in dentists. I was skeptical to say the least but desperate to have a molar that had broken in half pulled. When I met Dr. Scaff I was impressed with his pleasant and friendly nature. He set me at ease as I told him my past experences with dentists who cared little for my anxiety in regard to pain and more about getting me out of the chair as fast as possible. Dr. Scaff and his awesome staff were fantastic on that first visit and every single one thereafter. As an uninsured patient, I would expect him to not be so willing to help me out on short notice but Dr. Scaff has never put me off or turned me away AND I kid you not, he is virtually painless! I know that sounds impossible but it's true. Whether it be wisdom teeth extraction, fillings or cleanings, I have felt hardly any discomfort AT ALL. He also has never opted to recommend a more expensive procedure when a cheaper one will suffice. The office is great also and Dr. Scaff uses top of the line equipment. If your looking for a fantastic, to-good-to-be-true-but-really-is dentist then go and see Dr. Brian Scaff. Everyone I've referred to him has come away with similar compliments! read more

I'm shocked by the reviewers comments that only gave him 1 star. I've been going there for years and LOVE them! The entire staff is always super friendly, professional, and positive! I wouldn't go anywhere else!! Dr. Scaff recommends treatments/procedures without being pushy and I feel like he truly has my best interest at heart. I never feel like he's just trying to make money off me...he tells me what needs to be done and helps me prioritize procedures to fit my budget. I wrote a review that apparently offended the office staff. Let me put it very simply. I was a patient who trusted Dr. Scaff. I enjoyed the plush atmosphere and I know that he worked to get there because his office atmosphere was not always so plush. Unfortunately, I discovered that his success may have been based on over diagnosis and unnecessary work. I was told that I needed extensive work including many fillings - most 3 surface - and several crowns. When I finally got a second, and then third (just to be sure), opinion, it was revealed that I did not require any of that work at all. I could have one filling if I would like to replace an old one. Everything else was perfect. I didn't even have calcification, though Dr. Scaff's staff kept telling me I was in great need of a cleaning. Maybe this review will be less offensive. It is simply my experience without a judgment of the staff or their practices. My suggestion: forgo the plush surroundings and find an honest experienced dentist. I have found one with state of the art diagnostic instruments (I did not get at Dr. Scaff's) for a very reasonable fee and he accepts almost all dental insurance, whereas Dr. Scaff accepted none last I was there. Honest dentists are out there. Don't be fooled by appearances. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Scaff for over 10 years. He and his staff are fantastic. They are extremely professional, kind and provide the best patient care. Even after moving to South Austin and Dr. Scaff is not a provider covered under my Dental insurance plan, I continue to go to him as he and his staff provide the best quality of care. I have the usual every 6 month cleaning, also the in office Invisalign for teeth straightening, cavities filled, teeth whitening and most recently an emergency root canal. After the root canal he and his staff called or texted the next 2 days post procedure just to check in and let me know they were available if needed. I have referred family and friends to Dr. Scaff and they all have had very positive experiences as well. read more

I was soon called back, by Dr. Scaff, and told that since I risked damaging the tooth, he would meet me at his office to fix the issue.
