She had me platinum blonde, brown, black, ombre, balyage, highlights etc. and with every shade and or visit I've always had an amazing cut. I was told by hairstylist Jennifer in confidence that what I wanted can be easily done. 5 hours later and my hair was fried (had to cut more than two inches) and it had turned green/blue. And looked so disgusting that I had to keep my hair up or braided to not draw attention. The entire appointment Jennifer was rude and making excuses for the AWFUL things she was doing to my hair. She got to the point of cutting random chunks of my hair. I was naive and thought it was my fault based on the fact I had never lightened my hair before. She was blaming the way my hair was colored (wasn't colored), the way my hair was cut, and any other excuse she could pull. I later found out that this woman specializes in MENS HAIRCUTS. and had never mentioned to me once about how uncomfortable she was or unconfident that she could do a good job. She kept me under the dryer for almost 40 minutes with bleach and foil in my hair. And toward the end of the appointment admitted defeat by saying "I don't care what clients think of their hair, as long as I like it I know I did a good job." It's safe to say I got a refund from the owner who again, was incredibly nice. I'm just baffled that this other professional did not mention her uncertainty once and royally messed up my completely healthy hair. I was able to fix it at Beautiful People salon in Cromwell (see my review on their page to see final results). I will never be asking for Jennifer again, and am so disappointed with how unprofessional the entire experience was.

She must have used a very strong developer (or something) because what I walked out with was ORANGE, BRASSY hair. Not to mention that my hair STARTED SMOKING when Kelly Marie had it in the foils. I alerted her, she made a face like, "Oh no," unfolded the foil, took a look & just closed it back up & left it on for another 15 or so minutes...what in the world?! End result, the entire top of my head lost about 8 inches and then they had the nerve to charge me $200+ for it! I was realistic in my color choice & was still staying in the "dark" color family so why did I walk out with orange, brassy hair? When I say orange...I mean literally orange. I was too nice since I saw Kellys eyes get watery when I told her it wasn't what I wanted and I didn't notice the fall out until I got home. The next day, I went back and had Sammy Jo try to fix it. She applied a nice color that quickly washed off after my 1st wash. All I was left with was dried, orange, shreds of long and short brillo-like hair. Only if you don't like your hair, then you can give them a try. Maybe they'll do a nice job with cuts but I woudn't trust them with color or anything that involves chemicals.

Wendy created a fantastic new look for me (I opted for sew-in skip tracks in a long bob) and EVERYONE has given me compliment after compliment on the new 'do. I suppose this is my own fault for ignoring my instincts the moment I saw the stylist (Maria) and her general lack of professional appearance. The ridiculous eyelashes and ridiculous hair should have been a tip off, but I went against my better judgement. To start with, the "beauty salon" if you could really call it that, is inside this jail cell looking building, not exactly aesthetically pleasing to a new client. Upon entering there are two doors, one to another persons business's and one for Taj. Let's be clear here, there is NO indication for which is which AND the door is locked...great for business? I finally get in, there is already a person being serviced, which is fine, whatever, when I finally get into the chair, she begins I relax my hair... What's wrong with this... I was specifically told to wash my hair before the appointment, which is exactly not what your supposed to do before a relaxer. The rest of the appointment is painful and I'm not taking physically. After sitting in that disgusting salon for four hours, I was able to get a nice look around and what I saw was just plain nasty. Lots and lots of hair, just around, on the floor every where, like he shop had never seen a broom! Also I noticed dirt and grime buildup along the sinks and by the styling tables. Gross. Concluding the appointment, come the unveiling to the worst hair weave I have seen in a long time, it obviously looked like a weave, and a bad one at that. The way I would and my friends would describe it as would be, it looked like a hair helmet. Awful. On top of that, it was my birthday and I had to go out looking like that. It was so awful I took it out MYSELF that very night. This was an incredibly disappointing salon visit, especially since I had heard great things from this owner Wendy, about her stylist and her "undetectable" weaves, of that's true, then anyone who goes here, be prepared to consider yourself a victim of fraud. Not only was Maria's work shoddy, but she was not exactly personable, I felt that I was inconveniencing her. Just rude. After all was said and done, I still tipped twenty percent. Moral of the story, don't waste your money to become victim to unprofessionalism and bad styling, pay a little more and go to NY, clearly the only place to get your hair done properly.

The salon was amazing--they booked me the same week I called. I had left a message outside of business hours explaining my situation. An 8:00 AM hair appointment might sound tough, but there is parking right in front of the salon, and it's free until 9! I was able to be seen by the eponymous hairdresser, who struck me as somewhat reserved but kind. We discussed my long-term goals (length, possible coloring later) and my preferred hair maintenance routine. (I shampoo and condition 3-4 times a week, use no products, or only air dry.) I felt good about the haircut while in the seat, and I looked nice at the end. Matthew explained that he had cut my hair so that it would lie nicely with some volume with no real effort. However, at home I didn't find a good way to comb or fluff my hair. So the front cleaned up nicely, but I think the overall haircut complicated my post-shower or morning "styling." Nonetheless, the professionalism, cleanliness, convenient location, and willingness to squeeze me in last minute? I recommend giving this salon a shot.

Rather than trimming angled layers around my face, she cut two small uneven chunks on both sides. Ms. Phillips also began trimming the longer layers towards my ends, but did not finish. The back was left undone. When I went to work, some of my colleagues took notice. They could see two uneven chunks around my face. I went to another stylist in tears. She was stunned by what Ms. Phillips did to my hair. If Ms. Phillips did not want me as a client, she should have not scheduled an appointment, rather than intentionally ruining my hair. What an appalling thing to do.
