Showed up at my slotted time and was immediately greeted by Stacy, sorry if midspelled how she may spell her name. There were three other people waiting, so I filled out my form and they were ready for me. Daisy, also amazing, sat me down and did the intraocular pressures before I was seen by the doctor. The whole process maybe took 15-20 minutes from walking in the door to being finished? Daisy and Stacy were phenomenal up front and doctor was very professional and personable. Most offices charge a minimum of $200/patient, however, I was able to get a second opnion for both my parents for under $300 total. I had a great experience from calling to make an appointment, arriving, filling out forms, and being taken back on time! From start to finish, everything was efficient, professional and well organized. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to explain each step of the exam, which made the entire visit feel comfortable and stress free. Dr. Ani Grigorian completed a thorough and attentive exam on both my parents while addressing all of my questions and concerns. I never felt rushed, and the level of care was excellent. I have been going to the Van Nuys Costco office for the last 8 years for my annual eye exams and misc eye issues that have come up. I have been seen by a handful of the doctors here, but I keep coming back year after year because of Dr. Nishimura. He is the most professional, kind, humorous, and knowledgeable doctor. When I step inside the exam room, I know I am in excellent hands. Dr. Nishimura is a true expert in his field and exudes complete confidence as he works with you. I feel completely taken care of with him. He does a very thorough exam and always seeks to educate you on the science behind any diagnosis or finding. I never feel rushed and I am able to ask all my questions. I walk out feeling confident and aware of my eye health. Thank you for all you do, Dr. Nishimura. You are just fantastic! Additional notes- The office is also inside the Costco, so it's easy to find parking and to shop after. Very convenient and clean location. The office staff are also very kind. I needed to schedule eye appointments for my children, so I called ahead to confirm that their insurance was accepted. I was assured that it was, so I proceeded with booking the appointments. We arrived on time, completed the necessary paperwork, and then were abruptly told that the insurance was not accepted after all. The staff was unhelpful and condescending, making an already frustrating situation worse. Their tone and attitude lacked professionalism, and the entire experience was a complete waste of time. I had an appointment scheduled for 11:15, but it took nearly 30 minutes just for anyone to acknowledge me. By 11:45, I was told there were still two patients ahead of me. The waiting area was crowded, and the whole experience felt like a cattle call -- just trying to move people in and out as fast as possible. Great care, fair price, I waited less than 15 minutes with an appointment. I was not pressured to get retinal imaging even though it was something I wanted and got. Furthermore, the upcharge for it was not unreasonable. Dr. Issaian took the time to go through the retinal image in front of me and thoroughly checked for anything wrong. She also was straightforward about whether I wanted to increase the astigmatic portion of my prescription, what the pros and cons would be, and that I could come back within three months if I had issues with the stronger prescription I opted for (which I have not had an issue with so far). The entire staff is very efficient but friendly and I did not feel rushed. I know most people are here just to get an affordable and quick prescription for glasses or contacts but I left with peace of mind that my eye health was in good standing. Don't let the fact that this office is located in a Costco make you feel like you are not getting a "real" eye exam. read more

I'm going to do my best to try and describe the complete level of incompetence at the Burbank Costco location. I have been there twice. Both visits were a complete waste of time. I went in for an eye exam. Which went fine and seemed normal. After it was done, I had to wait 20 minutes for some lady to come and do the same exam all over again. Scribbling all over the paperwork that had been already filled out. I ended up leaving, not knowing what my prescription was. Or why I had to wait and then go through another exam again to have no results. I had called back a short time later and asked about this. I was told I could come back in and get my prescription and also talk about reading glasses. Again, they checked my eyes. And even though they said this was a follow up, which would be no charge, they wanted $95 to actually give me a prescription. I left more more confused than when I went in. There was no charge. But nobody's time is free. And they purposely wasted mine. This is a completely useless sham of a company. Just wanting your money so they can give you nothing in return. If you have your own prescription, the optical department is generally OK. But when they get busy, the friendliness, respect and time they spend with you goes right out the window. They become rude and short tempered. I have not dealt with everyone there. So it just may be a select few That display this behavior. This is also just recent behavior. They had been great in the past. This may be due to the dissatisfaction of the optometry department. As they are one of the most incompetent establishments I have ever been to. read more

Recently had my two year check up at the office located inside the Burbank Costco. Dr. Ani Grigoryan and staff were nothing but friendly, welcoming and professional. The office is clean. Staff is very efficient with their time so I didn't wait long. Dr. Grigoryan was very informative on explaining everything that was going on with my eyes and offered constructive tips for me in my daily life. Great experience. I got the pretty young optometrist at the Burbank Costco. She was very patient and worked with me hard to get my old eyes to 20/25 so I can pass work required exam. I have gone to Dr. Khoury for over 6 years and Dr Khoury himself was the only one who seemed to be able to get my contact lens prescription right. And I like him and ALL the folks in his offices, both in Burbank and Van Nuys Costco stores. My right eye kept getting worse, it seemed, and the prescription increased to -4.5 from -2.5 over time - challenging to get lenses to work together with -2.5 left eye. (I ordered progressive glasses from Costco too - TERRIBLE glasses but that is another story) Then - SHOCK! I go to another eye Dr. who tells me I have a super-ripe cataract and why haven't I had it removed yet!?? For over 3 years, maybe 4, Dr. Khoury ignored my developing cataract and/or never mentioned it to me. I got cataract surgery on right eye in June and now see 20/20 from that eye - and sadly I have lost all trust in Dr. Khoury read more

Friday afternoon while I was picking my daughter up from school my worst nightmare happened. I was cleaning my glasses and my frames broke. Now, I'm terrible about getting in for yearly exams and I don't ever get a backup pair and I don't wear contacts. I called in distress and I was told to have no fear, I could go as a walk in and getting there before 4:30 would be best. It felt like I was only there for 30 minutes. I filled out my paperwork and was called in for the quick prescreen and then I was called in about 15 minutes later for the actual exam with the optometrist. They are very COVID safe as they asked me to wash my hands with soap before sitting down for the prescreen, I was asked to go outside after that was done and they called me back in for the exam, I paid and I was on to the next part of the day, the optical center to order new glasses. Needless to say, they really pulled through and I was really impressed with how quick it was. They are priced well and it was a quick in and out for me, and on a Friday afternoon to boot! I had my eyes checked today by Dr. Kwon and it was a very positive experience. Since it was 10:15am on a weekday, parking was easy and Costco wasn't very busy. I filled out the paperwork and was seen almost immediately. First the technician gave me a couple of tests and then Dr. Kwon examined my eyes. This is the only doctor I'll make an appointment with during the work day - they always run on time and are so efficient with the management of patient flow. They are also very friendly and my prescription is always right. I'm moving in to the years of needing bifocals and I love that the optometrist always writes my prescription with the option (with our without progressive lenses) - and shows me how to order the right ones cause I do it on line. This rating and review is for Alyssa at the front desk of the Van Nuys location. I was there to figure out which contact was which as there is no identifying mark when you wear diff prescriptions. The only pair I had so I was stuck. And there wasn't a big diff which eye I put them in. Dr. Khoury told me to come in and he was going to check my eyes. When I got there he was not there?? So Alyssa took it over and was so kind, helpful and knowledgable in giving me various tips on how to identify them on my own since they could not help me in the office. it is these various tips that can be so helpful to a patient. Pulling up my account to go over my prescriptions. She then, being so accommodating, gave me 2 new ones identifying which is which. After working with her there was no need to come back to see the doctor. Most would just tell the customer you'll need to come back and see the doctor. You DO NOT need to be a costco member to go to the eye doctor. You DO need a costco membership to purchase glasses, or contacts. They are great when dealing with appointments and they also allow walk ins. I've never had to wait long to be seen, and the appointments have always gone quickly as well. They can dilate your eyes if you would like. They do a great job of explaining everything, and helping you walk through the process. They accept most major vision insurance (and they take mine). They also have free follow-up visits for three weeks. read more

The others were great but there's something special about Dr. K. I was very comfortable from the start with him and he took his time to make sure I was very taken care of. We even spoke about LAZIK and he said if I chose that route, thy he'd give me his personal recommendations for my VERY particular optical needs and possible outcomes. Dr Khoury is AMAZING!! I had an issue with one of my eyes - was seeing double vision. He took me in without an appointment and really cared for the health of my sight. Turns out my cornea was super dry so he gave me special eye drops and a prescription for medicated eye drops. I've followed up with him multiple times and he's been incredibly patient and professional! A true life saver! :) I HIGHLY recommend this office for eye exams, glasses and contacts - you also need an appointment considering the nature of Costco and popular Burbank, it can get busy. read more

Dr. Nishimura is the best optometrist I've ever met. He's not only very knowledgeable about everything, he answers all of your questions patiently and is a very friendly guy. The office is located in the Van Nuys Costco and gets a little cramped, but I think it's well worth it, as the prices are very cheap ($89 for contact lens exam, follow-up exam, and contact lens/glasses prescription, ~$50 for eyeglasses exam) and Dr. Nishimura is awesome. read more
