I've worn glasses or contacts for over 45 years. I had countless number of exams and office visits. This was one of the best and most thorough experiences that I have had at the optometrist. The Dr. was great she explained every test and the exams, step by step, I really appreciated her professionalism and she was very pleasant. Then it came down to the staff; Mary Lu and Maria they are exceptional, so kind, attentive, patient, thorough and really engaging with you in helping you find the perfect frames to the most proper tint. Been coming here for years!! I'm so happy that Mari Lu and Maria still works here!!! They continue to always be soooooo nice and helpful. So the 5 stars are for them. The company now has a new management company, which is a bummer. Some of my favorite brands, they no longer carry and just a whole new set of policies which I don't care for, compared to prior of the new management, but fortunately Mari Lu and Maria stayed REAL which is what brings us back here. I went in for my annual exam and was told there would be a $15 copay with my VSP insurance --- $15, that's all it would be. After the exam, I get hit with a bill of undisclosed charges: Refraction exam: $15.90 Comprehensive exam: $ 78.60 Standard Evaluation: $63.75 Total: $158.25 -- in out-of-pocket surprise charges Look at the receipt. I WASN'T EVEN CHARGED THE COPAY!!! This bait-and-switch tactic has been reported to government regulators for investigation. I'm done as a patient with this business. read more

The Australian Eye Dr is attentive and detailed oriented. Staff changes seems constant now than before covid. I had better customer service and follow-up in the past than after covid. Unfortunately STEIN no longer can do prescription Maui Jims. Therefore, I found another in El Segundo. I had a pleasant experience at Stein Optometric Center. I felt it was time to get my eyes checked out , so I scrolled yelp for optometrist in my area. Stein Optometric had solid reviews and not too far from my place. Everyone from top to bottom were welcoming and professional. The girls in the front got me checked in immediately and had me fill out all necessary paperwork. My optometrist Tatevik Mananian guided me through all the eye exams and kindly answered all my questions. After all the eye tests, it was determined a prescription for reading glasses would be needed . One of the young ladies in front assisted me with picking out frames and showed me all the glasses and prices . I was lucky enough to have insurance cover most the cost of the frames, so I was happy. All the frames have prices clearly listed, so it helps seeing the frames in your budget or covered under insurance. I had to pay the balance of the glasses on the spot and was advised that they would be ready within a couple weeks. I was in and out in around an hour. This optometrist is located on the second floor of the Burbank Town Center. Plenty of parking in the structure, especially on weekdays. read more

I made an appointment to visit an optometrist after finally having some vision insurance and was able to find this location which was conveniently located close to where I live and had great reviews. It's located inside the mall on the 2nd floor next to Burlington. Don't be fooled like me and think that it's a jewelry place because it's not! I walked past it twice lol (good thing I went to get my eyes checked ) I was greeted by Leslie who was very kind and handed me some paperwork to fill out. Once I was done she took me to do some tests before seeing my optometrist. Leslie was very kind and very professional, especially considering I was their last patient of the day. She explained what tests I was going to be doing and even offered optional tests that had a fee but she never pressured me to do them or even made me feel like she was trying to sell it to me, she mentioned how they would help and why she would recommend them but were totally optional. As mentioned she was super kind and very profesional with everything. After we were done I was greeted by Dr.Cheung who was also super kind and very professional (notice the trend here). We walked through all the tests and she thoroughly explained to me what she was doing as well as show me how my eyes looked from some of the tests I did, she even gave me some eye drop samples to try out. After going through everything she recommended some lenses I would need and told me I would be helped by one of their staff to help me choose some frames and get me finished with paperwork. Maria came out to assist me and she was, you guessed it, super kind and very professional as well. She showed me all of the options and even helped me pick some frames that I felt good about and that fit perfectly. I've seen a lot of reviews that mention Maria and I was glad I was able to experience her professionalism. All in all, everyone at this location was, say it with me one last time, super kind and very professional. If you're looking for an optometrist that's gonna help you out and make you feel good then look no further, they'll take care of you here. The only reason I'm giving this place a 5 star is because of the excellent service my mom got with Maria. She was beyond nice, cordial, patient and kind. She took her time with my mom while I had to be outside due to COVID restrictions but she was absolutely a joy to work with! I've been a client of theirs for over 10 years and they have always taken good care of me. They were vigilant when it comes to their distancing guidelines and had hand sanitizers available upon entry. In the seating areas, you are seated separately and they assign a seat to you for the duration of your visit. All the staff are friendly and attentive. Very disappointing. Stein Optometric no longer orders Maui Jim prescription sunglasses. No mention of any ordering limitations until after I received my full eye exam. The optometrist gave me two copies of my prescription before I attempted to order my sunglasses, so I can go somewhere else. The optometrist was great. The balance of the staff was pleasant but not equipped to properly explain their inability to place the order. First, I was told they're under new management. Next I was told their new computer system will not allow them to order frames they don't carry, even though they carry the brand. I'd been a customer for 20 years and am very disappointed. read more

Mary Lou is the best at working with picky patients looking for the perfect pair of focals (i.e. me) Maria is super nice not only did she adjust my old frames to perfection but she also picked the perfect pair of glasses to turn into sunglasses. Dr. Kawamura was nice, friendly, and through. Seriously if you need an exam or glasses and want to be in a safe, clean, and friendly environment, go to Stein. 1000% recommend Dr. Mananian. She's so incredibly warm and welcoming, and very thorough when explaining what she's doing next! She explained each step perfectly and I was able to understand what she was talking about. Most doctors don't typically take the time to actually listen to the patients and their concerns about their eyes, so I'm glad that she was able to let me know what was wrong! She encouraged me to get up and move around the office as well to ensure that the lens that she was picking was the absolute correct one. I have slight astigmatism, but nothing out of the ordinary, and she was able to calm my nerves. She was also sweet enough to e-mail me the picture of the back of my eyes because I thought it looked cool haha. Seems very money driven and impersonal. Gave me incorrect eye results just to say my vision hasn't changed so he could send me to get lasik which I'm sure he gets a kickback from. Charged $60 for a "contact fitting" which is pretty much a way to charge you $60 for a trial pair. Makes 0 sense. I spent more here with insurance than my previous company without insurance. I didn't like the vibe of this office. I was forced to try a new eye dr. since my insurance didn't work with my previous one that I loved. Thankfully next year i think I can go with my old dr (Eyedeal/Van Nuys) but I didn't like the doctor here he made me uncomfortable and nervous and I hated that this office is in the dying mall in Burbank. The doctor also thought I had narrow angles and I don't and have normal eye pressure. My other dr. recognized it looks like I have narrow angles but I don't! I've been a patient at Stein for the past 5 years or so and I'm so glad I've stuck with this optometric center. The staff here is very attentive and all my encounters have been professional. My appointment has always been on time and all the doctors at Stein have all been thorough and courteous. You can check if your insurance is in network and ask the receptionist to price out your eye examination, contact orders, etc. before you go in for your appointment. Setting up an appointment is quick and easy and the staff does a great job at updating/reminding patients about appointment details and eyewear pickup. Due to COVID, you have to call the center to pick up your eye wear. You have to wait at the entrance of the mall and a staff member brings out your eye wear. read more

IF I'd left this review the day I had my eye exam or picked up my finished glasses it would have been a five star review. Maria was great, the doctor was great, they got me in for a same day exam and the glasses were done in about a week. It was great. Then I put on my distance frames and I felt like I was 7 feet tall... I'm only 5'4"....I could not walk with the glasses on because the ground looks too far away and I feel like I'm going to fall. When I drive it feels like my little compact car is as high as an SUV. This means that my glasses for walking around and driving give me a bad perception of the world around me. I called to ask about it after a few days and I was told that they can ONLY see me on Tuesday or Saturday... Because I need to now see a senior doctor for a prescription check. Sooo, that means I was shunted to a sub par doctor for my exam? Also, the doctor isn't available on Tuesday when I can get there so can I wait until Saturday or some other day in the future? Like, sure...no problem...I don't need to see especially to drive ... No big deal, right? The special kick in the teeth on this one is that I ordered another pair from another seller and I've probably lost the money on that pair IF I was given a bad prescription. And the girl on the phone at Stein said she "understands my frustration." Is there anything more frustrating than being told that by someone who can't possibly understand. I mean what if I were getting on a plane to go somewhere far away next week? No glasses for me I guess. I don't have a choice about going back but I figure I'll save someone else some heartache and wasted money. read more

Everyone is fantastic here, the doctors are knowledgeable and the staff are super helpful. Went in for a lasik consult and new glasses in the meantime and got seen in a timely manner, appointment was efficient and I picked out some frames and was told to come back for pickup. A few days later a blood vessel popped in my eye and I just thought I'd wait and see if it got better on its own, I went and picked up the glasses and the staff noticed it and let the on site doctor know, she quickly took a look at it just to make sure it wasn't anything huge and I got my glasses and left. Just the fact they were kind enough to check my eye despite not being my doctor or having an appointment was really great and I'd definitely recommend them! read more

I got my prescription here and had a pleasant experience. Dr. Tatevik Mananian took my prescription measurements and checked my eyes. She answered all the questions I had about my contacts and glasses. My mistake, unfortunately, is that I ended up going to LensCrafters for my frames and lenses and quickly noticed discomfort when putting them on. I was told from LensCrafters staff on 3 separate visits in one month that is was me and that I need to wear the glasses more (which I did). Even after explaining to them that I've never had this type of discomfort with my glasses before and that my prescription is the same. They just shut me down. The LensCrafters staff really put it in my head that this was how new glasses felt. My girlfriend then recommends we go back to Stein Optometry. I tell them about my discomfort with the glasses over the phone and right away they bring me in for an appointment with one of the optometrists. The staff here definitely knows what they are doing. The staff and Dr. Kuriki listened to my concerns of discomfort and rechecked everything being very thorough and really trying to find the problem. Dr. Vanessa Kuriki was able to find the mistake that LensCrafters never bothered to look for. The prescription was correct but the measurements on my glasses were wrong causing my eyes to strain and try to shift to the proper focal point. They marked my glasses from LensCrafters and showed me how the focal point on my left eye was higher than my right eye. I had to slant my glasses to the right to comfortably see out of them. They gave me test glasses so I could feel what my glasses were supposed to be and to my relief I felt no discomfort. I am thankful to the staff here for taking care in their work and for solving the problem I initially came in with. The staff here is knowledgeable, helpful, and very kind. They have without a doubt gained a loyal customer. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Also, stay away from LensCrafters! read more
