To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this formal complaint/grievance regarding the ongoing delays and lack of adequate care surrounding my cataract removal treatment. My initial referral appointment took place in March 2026. I then returned twice in April 2026 for additional diagnostic testing and to complete required consent forms. Despite complying with all requested appointments and documentation, I was informed on May 6, 2026, by Alicia that there is currently no available building or facility to complete the cataract removal procedure and that approval has not yet been obtained through my insurance. This ongoing delay has become detrimental to my overall quality of life. My vision impairment continues to affect my daily functioning, independence, safety, and emotional well-being. I am deeply concerned that this matter reflects a lack of urgency, empathy, and proper coordination of care. The prolonged postponement of medically necessary treatment feels neglectful and has caused unnecessary stress and suffering. I respectfully request immediate clarification regarding:* The current status of insurance authorization* The expected timeline for surgery approval and scheduling* What actions are being taken to prevent further delays in care I also request that this grievance be formally documented and reviewed by management, patient relations, and any appropriate oversight department. I recently saw Dr. Hirji for treatment of narrow angles and had laser peripheral iridotomy performed. I had an excellent experience with her and her office. Dr. Hirji is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. What stood out most to me was how well she listened. I had been dealing with symptoms for a long time and she took the time to really hear my concerns and explain what was happening with my eyes. She also set very clear and realistic expectations about the procedure and the recovery, which I appreciated. The procedure itself went very smoothly, and I felt very comfortable in her care. Her staff and office were also very well organized. They were upfront about the length of appointments and scheduling so there were no surprises, which made the whole process much easier. If her office were closer to my home (it's a 24-mile drive and roughly an hour each way for me, longer if traffic is backed up), I would absolutely continue seeing her long term. I would highly recommend Dr. Hirji to anyone needing a glaucoma specialist. read more

They prescribed crazy expensive med for dry eyes which my insurance doesn't cover. It took several tries to get someone on the phone to deal with that. They then prescribed something three times as expensive. I can't get an answer to texts or voicemail so that's it for me. read more

The receptionists, nurses, and staff are friendly and nice; but be prepared to wait a long time to see the doctors. They are running behind chronically. I am a new patient on my second visit and had to wait a long time for both visits to see the doctor. Dr. Tanenbaum, once you actually get to see her, is informative and detailed. I have been seeing Dr. Tannenbaum for a few years to manage my eye issues related to diabetes. I am proud to say the Dr. T was the catalyst in helping motivate me to lose 90 lbs and reverse my diabetes over a two-year period and now my diabetes is gone. I am so grateful to her support, care and tough love in helping me reverse the diabetes. Recently, I was diagnosed with cataracts. I had 800/20 vision, which is legally blind, and have worn corrective lenses for 45+ years. I opted to have the surgery and it was a glowing success! I now have better than 20/20 vision. Her team was wonderful to work with. Although my medical insurance did pay for the surgery and facility, I did have to pay out of pocket and finance it in order to get new prescription lenses put in and the special less invasive laser surgery (not covered by my insurance unfortunately). However, to me, it price well worth the outcome. The post-surgery care was thorough and exceptional. I cannot recommend Dr. T and her staff more. read more

Just had cataract surgery and can't say enough great things about Dr. Tannenbaum and her team. Not only was the surgery successful (my "new" vision is even better than anticipated), but Dr. Tannenbaum went above and beyond in providing care. She reached out to one of my neurologists to discuss an unusual medical condition that might affect my surgery and further discussed it with one of her colleagues to ensure everyone (including me) was comfortable with the decisions being made. She's a skilled surgeon, exceptional communicator, and a truly caring doctor. Further, all the staff I've come in contact with at the Center have been outstanding--knowledgeable, patient, and professional. This is a review for Mario Meallet and the office's communication issues. My father met with Dr. Meallet in regards to cloudy/blurry vision and dark shadows in his right eye. Dr. Meallet callously brushed off his concerns and told him that old patients often complain about blurry vision. In the appointment, he refused to check his eyes thoroughly even though they were dilated. If he would have taken the time to do a thorough exam, Dr. Meallet would have found that my dad had a detached retina. Instead, Dr. Meallet displayed GROSS NEGLIGENCE and completely shut the door on my dad - refusing to listen to him. His medical practice, 'A Center for VisionCare, failed to return my dad's calls and emails over a span of 13 days that caused the retinal detachment to progressed to center vision which is very bad. Eventually, my dad needed emergency surgery and now, after healing, will not regain his original state of vision. Avoid this negligent so-called "doctor." In regards to the office's lack of response after meeting with Dr. Meallet: July 26th - my dad contacted the office via their website under 'Contact Us' pleading for help. There was no response. July 28th - Still hadn't heard back from the original message. Called and left a VM. No reply. July 29th - called again in the early morning and left a VM. Called again later in the morning and was able to speak to the operator who helped set up an appointment with a retina specialist that afternoon. read more

This is probably a very good practice surgically and with diagnostics. However, their office staff and organization are very poor. And, in the three times I have been there, only once was my visit anything other than overly long and quite cold. I was left sitting in a hallway for more than an hour, on one occasion and was given the same exam a second time on my second visit. Today was the final straw. I called the office to tell them I was very sorry and that I would be a few minutes late. I was told the Dr. would not see anyone who was late and that I would have to reschedule. I had the courtesy to call...Would they have turned me away if I hadn't given them the courtesy of a call and apology? Really? Would they have sent me away? I guess courtesy from the patient is no appreciated. I'm quitting. Dr. Mandelberg was different. read more

I have done several reviews on how spectacular the doctors are at this practice. What I want to mention are the techs who do the pre work to get us ready for the doctors. They are so efficient and kind and always take away any stress I might be feeling. Also want to acknowledge the people behind the desk who deal with changing appointments and a million other things. Always are cheerful and make it an actual pleasure to call in. A special shout out to Anna, who got me through some paperwork mix ups with my internist and worked it like a detective until she figured it out. Dr. Tannenbaum has been a wonderful ophthalmologist for me to work with. She listens carefully and answers my questions in great detail. During pre-op and surgery she is very calming and reassuring. Dr. Tannenbaum helped me work through my choices in lenses. With her help, I chose Toric lenses to correct my astigmatism issues, giving me distance vision for one eye and near vision for the other. Only went as a referral by my medical plan. Will not return. The glasses they issued were the first I've ever experienced problems with (focus) that when they called back after an unreasonable wait they acted as tho nothing was wrong and handled the situation rather unprofessionally having an underling conduct the call while the office supervisor tagged along. This i became aware of when all of a sudden this second voice comes on the line without any introduction. I reported the situation to my provider and have yet despite it being weeks to hear anything more about the situation. Yes i am very disappointed by their performance and look forward to returning to my next exam with another service provider I had previously gone to. If this call was important enough for the office administrator to being on it then that person should have handled it and they should have put some effort into making it known what needed to be corrected would be done. It's unfortunate that this has happened but it's always a toss of the dice. I just wished my previous service provider had the capability to get done what was required by my doctor. If the issue is so fundamental as focus and that is wrong then why bother with $500 eye glasses? Thank goodness I had no out of pocket expenses involved. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Meallet for over 12 years for my glaucoma and also had him perform my PRK surgery many years ago. While this office always used to have its little quirks and been a bit on the slow side, the past year or two it has turned into a total shit-show of incompetence. From botched scheduling and billing to appointments that take FOREVER (if you can even manage to get one) to the intern I had today who literally couldn't perform ANY of the testing or work the machines properly - just all bad. She has treated me previously for glaucoma, and most recently performed lens replacement in both eyes to correct the cataracts that have been a challenge growing for the last few years. The staff at this facility is horrible. It is sad because the doctor here is great But the front desk team is rude and I think they are trying to steal money from patients My wife has been coming for a while and has never paid a single penny out of pocket. Never. Even after a successful surgery The last time the staff in the front tried to charge my wife $135 out of pocket. multiple times she tried to say this was not needed with our blue cross insurance and this was never asked for before. but he kept persisting and started demanding for the money or said she would need to leave and not see the doctor. This is a very large bustling office with severe problems in organization and management. Over the course of a summer, starting with my initial visit of an appt with Dr Tannenbaum to get fitted for contact and eyeglasses, I must have had the visit the office 12+ times. She is professional and friendly, but the appt took over 2.5 hours, though with all my waiting, I felt rushed thru my actual appt with her (10 min). Subsequently, they messed up my prescription multiple times- both with eyeglasses and contacts. Part of it was the long fitting process (took 3 visits to get it right), which was fine, but not explained to me. Then once they had the prescription, I was given the wrong contacts and then the wrong lenses (each a diff dept). I had to come back on multiple separate trips for pick up and and to get clarifications from the respective techs. In addition, I repeatedly sent emails (7 in total), which reception kept ignoring, then sending me the wrong prescription. All of their departments (eye doctor, reception, glasses, management) are run like separate businesses who do not communicate with one another. I had brought this to the attention of the manager, Frank, right at the get go, and assured me it would not happen again. When the issues kept coming, he never returned my emails or phone calls. I was also told everything would be included in my VSP plan.I now have a bill that arrived from their offices asking $55.71, and unclear for what services rendered. I'm sick and tired of having to call, drop by in person and spend so much needless time and money. I have left Frank an email again and its been 24 hours with no response. This was after I tried to repeatedly call at 4pm on a Thursday. I'll be contacting the Better Business Bureau and their corporate offices with my complaints. read more

I've been going to A Center for Vision Care since before they moved into their current location on Alameda in Burbank. Dr. Tanenbaum has been my eye doctor the whole time. During COVID, they have been open with updates protocols and enhanced cleaning. Temperature checks are necessary and masks are required at all times. The nursing staff seems to do a pretty good job at leasing by example which I found refreshing. The thing that I was and am still not a Dan of was the multiple people sitting in the waiting room even with social distancing and I really hope they update that procedure. There is parking in this new location in the building, but be aware they do not validate so your best bet is to park across the street on the side right next to the Disney lot, which has no hourly restrictions or meters. read more

This doctor and her entire team and practice are among the most outstanding I've ever seen. From the moment I walked into the office, I knew this was the right decision. Everyone at the office was friendly and knowledgeable, from the front desk to the help staff to the doctors. What I love about them (aside from being always on time) is that they are very transparent about pricing, procedure, and process. I opted for the PanOptix Intraocular lens implants (the premium package at the premium cost), and I am exceptionally happy with the results!! As an extremely dedicated physician, Dr. Tannenbaum made me feel completely comfortable with what was quite a frightening procedure every step of the way. During the surgery, she tells you everything she's doing so that you're not surprised. The surgery itself lasted less than 20 mins per eye (each eye is done separately). It happened so quickly and smoothly! Prior to the surgery, I had severe near and far-sightedness in both eyes and bad astigmatism. My astigmatism has been corrected and I can see better than 20/20. This is the best gift I could have ever asked for, thanks Center for VisionCare! One of the best decisions I've ever made in my life! It's been almost a month since I got the first surgery on my left eye (surgery on my right eye was done 2 weeks later), and I am so incredibly happy with the results. I am still amazed that I can see without glasses or contacts! I was having problems reading with words seemingly disappearing right before my eyes even with multi-focal contact lenses. It is a problem for me since I cantor at my church and it is difficult to do that if I can't read the notes and words. Our musical director referred me to this office and to look for Dr Mario Meallet for cataract surgery consultation. Dr Meallet explained the condition to me very clearly and showed options on what can be done. I decided to go with monovision and I was scheduled for surgery within 4 weeks of the first consultation. They even called my primary physician to schedule the pre-op. At the surgery center, I had a very pleasant experience as the wonderful staff treats each patient as if they are taking care of loved ones. It was quick surgery and was discharged within an hour. I felt no pain at all, after I got home and the days following the surgery. I've been a patient here for a few years, but it is impossible to make an appointment. The front desk just puts you on hold and never comes back. If you hang up and call again... same procedure. Don't bother sending them an email requesting an appointment; it won't get answered. After 6 months of COVID-19, you can't keep using that as an excuse.
