Michael Rose is an OUTSTANDING CPA and wonderful man! Over the past 15+ years I have used his services consistently and faithfully, as a loyal customer who also readily referred numerous friends, colleagues, and family to Michael Rose, CPA. However, over the past 5-10 years as he has scaled his business, the level of service has declined (first, a few minor mishaps here and there or things overlooked on my tax returns as I dealt with new, my guess, seasonal workers who never really took the time to know me or my finances beyond quick conversations). I saw less and less of him and more of other random employees handling my taxes. (It's fine, I guess. I'm not a millionaire, so perhaps he has bigger clients to tent to?!) His personal touch and friendly face was always a source of comfort during what could be an otherwise stressful time: tax season. The major issue I have -which has led to my final decision to take my business elsewhere- is with the front office staff which was at one time run by nice, friendly women but have now been replaced by Michael's wife "Ledy". She is rude and lacks basic customer service. Most of all, given that a large portion of Mr. Rose's clients are African American, she could use a course on "cultural competency" and learning how to speak to black folks versus talking down to them or like she is above them! I would conjecture that the frequent turnover in office staff is due to her poor management "style" and lack of respect. It's too bad that she has gotten in the way of what was once a wonderful professional relationship. I was looking for help beyond taxes. He is supposed to be a financial planner. I was seeking assistance with retirement accounts. He charged me $150 for something I could have easily looked up at home. I don't think he had any idea of how to answer my questions regarding payouts to lower my taxes on inherited IRA accounts. I don't normally write reviews so apologies ahead of time for rambling... First off, my family and I haven't needed an accountant since leaving NY and have been just fine with online tax consulting because it was easier. That all changed when my family and I moved to Texas and bought a house. With that being said, we now needed an accountant with all these new changes going on. Jerry had nothing but nice things to say about Mr Rose and suggested that I check him out. We are so glad we did because Mr Rose and his organization welcomed us right off the bat! The staff was warm and welcoming as well. They even grabbed some crayons for my young boys, DISCLAIMER: the office is not meant for kids FYI but they can handle just in case :) Mr Rose was able to sit down and explain the good and the bad in order to give us options when filing. Pricey for the services provided. Wanted assistance with managing business and personal taxes efficiently. Never got the answers I wanted and my impression is this firm is not really engaged with their customer's needs. They may be ok for the basic personal taxes but fail miserably for business needs. read more

Short version- I usually prepare my own returns but this year I needed help because it was complicated. I called this office twice and asked when I could come in. I can't speak for the actual tax preparation because i never made it that far. The customer service here is horrible. This is all before they take your money; I can only imagine what happens afterwards. The first time I called them to confirm the hours listed on Yelp and ask when I could come in. They said just come in any time before 5 and drop off your papers. The next day I called to ask for an appointment and inquire about fees and was told 'you don't need an appointment. Just walk in. We try to keep the fee around $300. Side note: I went to business school and know CPAs are more expensive because of the training they have gone through. So the fee was not an issue. Plus my taxes are completely insane this year so why not pay for the service. Today I walk into the office and am told 'You need an appointment.' Really? I told the receptionist my whole story and she said I don't know who you spoke to but you need an appointment. Since I am a grown a$$ woman and know that arguing with the front desk will never resolve anything, I walked out the door and called another CPA. As a side observation, another woman had come in before me and it seems like they had misinformed her about the status of her tax return. I didn't stick around to see the end result of that conversation but the woman was still waiting when I left. Again seems like this business needs a lesson in communication. read more

Yesterday I called in to get a copy of my tax returns and they told me it was company policy for me to pay $20 for each tax return I needed. I was missing my personal and business returns for 2016. I told them that I wasn't made aware that I would have to pay a fee to get a copy of my taxes when I selected their firm to prepare them. They said there was no one in the office who could override this policy and that I needed to pay $40. I told them that my last tax preparer had a portal where I could download my taxes for free at any time. I expressed to them that I felt that my taxes where being held hostage due to the inefficiency of their operation. I also expressed that I felt as if I was being nickeled and dimed at a time when I really needed my CPA to release a copy of my documentation. When I told them (Peter specifically) that we filed my taxes electronically and I don't remember getting a hardcopy I was told that I was liar. This was shocking! The customer service here is horrible!! read more
