My situation was unique as the seller usually does the allocation in a business purchase but in my case, the broker/seller was pushing me to do it. I called several CPAs in the San Ramon/Danville/Dublin area to see if we could have a "filler" CPA go over numbers with us for this transaction. I must have called 25 CPA's in a day. Some answered and we're quick to tell me that I should push back, and make the seller do it. They made it seem like what I was looking for couldn't be done and they just didn't want to deal with it. Like many of the CPA's I called, Ken was busy when i first reached out. But his assistant or front desk person, Reese(if that's how you spell it) was very attentive with his responses. Ken is the only accountant that called back and only accountant that actually asked me the details/numbers of my transaction. He took time to understand the unique-ness of my situation and made sense of it. In a 25 minute call he educated me more than the 7 or 8 other CPAs with higher review ratings. After talking to him, I felt like I was given "survival tools" and "little nuggets" for my bigger, future entrepreneurial endeavors. He was so pleasant and easy to talk to. To be in the generation of customer service being taken over by robots and people treating everyone like numbers. Both Ken and Reese were so authentic and human in their responses. No overselling, no fake politeness. I have been with my CPA in Hayward for 10 years and Ken really has me thinking about switching over.

One year he filed an extension for me and vastly underestimated the taxes owed, and when filed, I ended up paying $1800 in penalties, with NO acceptance of responsibility on his part. By the third year of preparation, he seemed "over it" and essentially quit on me without any advance notice. Then, here we are in tax year 2024 and I receive notifications from tax year 2021 of improperly calculated and unpaid taxes, with an imminent lein notice forthcoming if I don't pay in two weeks. If you have a complex tax situation, The Werner Group may not be a wise choice.
