I have challenging calcified roots, but Dr. Dryden did an amazing job. He talked me through the procedure, made sure I was always comfortable and did a work of perfection. He was thorough and did not leave a speck of anything that would potentially cause an infection. I have no pain and best yet, no worries about the quality of the root canal. It will last a lifetime. The staff were very helpful and called the following day to see how I was doing. This was my 2nd root canal. My first one, performed by a general dentist, lasted only a short time and exploded into a huge infection. That experience left me nervous about a 2nd one...but Dr. Dryden was very sensitive to my apprehension and reassured me throughout the entire procedure. You will not be disappointed. read more

I've waited a long time to write this review, in order to be objective as possible. I needed a root canal on a front tooth that my regular dentist could not perform. She sent me to Dryden. The cost was $1,000 for 12 minutes of work. I arrived before the scheduled 8:00 appointment. The 1st thing that made me edgy was the religious music. It was not subtle music either. I am not opposed to religion in any way, as long as it isn't jammed down my throat. I was his first appointment in the morning and he was late. As Dryden worked on my mouth...all I could hear was...'pray he loves you'. My question is who loves me? The person singing the song or the man with 10 fingers in my mouth? Being forced to listen to this music, I feel was jammed down my throat. He did the work and I was out. I also suggested they change their music. I also had to contact the office after about changing how the bill would be paid. The receptionist explained that this would have to be discussed with Dryden. They never called me back, I called them after 1 week. There was a $45 charge to change the payment options. Dryden did the work properly...but his work ethics are not my style...in any way. And the $45 charge upset me. I work very hard for my money and all I did was pay for his gas in his BMW. read more

Staff promises that they are very experienced at making patients comfortable-lie no consideration to patient comfort. Not even warm blanket or head phones. Let alone nitrous. What we thought was consult on a "virgin" molar ended up being emergency procedure. Multiple attempts needed to numb tooth. Family member in specialty dental field (periodontal) attended first appointment with me. With NO patient comfort measures taken, I was in panic fight or flight for well into an hour. Family member spent the rest of her day crying for me. I spent the rest of my day emotionally shut down. My body ached for three days following procedure because of tension. Sub-par patient comfort care..and her office recommended dr Dryden., she personally will not be seeing Dr. Dryden for endodontal work she knows is soon to be needed in her mouth. Returned aprox two weeks later to finish ordeal. This time armed with anti anxiety medication recommended by family member in the field, the dentist she works for and written by my primary care dr. With instructions to take 1/2 hour before apt. Was informed by Dr Dryden's reception staff NOT. To follow my dr.'s orders, as Dr. Dryden needed to see Rx bottle and approve before he proceeded. He then told me "the nerves are gone in tooth, nothing to be anxious about and this will be over by the time your medication will kick in" handi dandy mother in car waiting to drive my expectedly semi sedated self home. Proceeded without medication because I felt shamed and my fear belittled by Dr. Dryden. Molar was not without sensation, again had to inject additional nerve block before work could begin. (His assistant did that, where as before he did it) During procedure, felt nerve zaps in tongue during procedure. After the root canal was finished he had his young assistant "build up the crown prep" he left the room for 20 minutes or so. Left the office again feeling physically and mentally assaulted and my trust in dentists violated and destroyed. Return to my dentist, dr. Ben Thomas (amazing) to have permanent crown placed. Tooth is not pain free. Needed a block to place crown. Dr Thomas spent a good 30 minutes grinding my crown fit..the build up done by Dr. Dryden was done after the mold was made for crown. Crown finally seated correctly. Crown is not high, teeth did not move. There was some puzzlement over why molar obviously still had at least one live nerve, was told it sometimes happens that a nerve is missed. Bite is perfect..no unexpected tenderness or discomfort. Tooth was good to go.. Bring on the steak. Flash forward a month. Molar which has had three thousand dollars (2k out of pocket) spent in "fixing" is loose. The molar hurts MORE AND MORE OFTEN than before fixing it. Laced up my running shoes this am and with the first 5 plants of right foot I was in agonizing pain from the jarring of nerve. Called Valley river endontics and was told "discomfort when biting was still to be expected". Told the receptionist that the tooth had unusual movement and pain. She said she would speak to Dr Dryden and get back to me. I waited over an hour and called Dr Thomas's office. Stephanie (reception, insurance guru) had me in Dr Thomas's chair with in hours, would have been minutes if my schedule allowed. Finally heard back from Dr. Dryden's office three hours after calling them. Reception told me they could "possibly" get me in sometime next week. Dr. Thomas has given me three possible courses of action. 1, a round of antibiotics to see if pain and looseness of molar is due to infection and the periodontal tendon is to blame for pain 2, having a second root canal at another endo's office. 3) removing the molar. My dental benefit has been maxed out. Dr Dryden's office was paid in full at the time of the root canal (or so I thought) out of pocket by personal check. Dr. Thomas has offered to refund the cost of the crown so I can afford to fix or remove this tooth now instead of having to wait until the new year. Very caring of him. It is obvious he feels horrible about this ordeal. In summary. I believe Dr Dryden has a failed root canal, a callus approach to patient anxiety and someone only out to maximize his profit. And I received a bill in excess of 300.00 additional dollars in the mail. Stay as far away from valley river endodontics and Dr Dryden as you can. He and his office lie about "being excellent at patient comfort" In my opinion does shoddy and careless work and does not care one bit about the patient after the check has been cashed. read more

I had a very different experience from the previous poster. I found Dr. Dryden and his staff to be very helpful, knowledgeable, kind and efficient. The pre-surgery/diagnostic visit was informative, and they made it very clear what to expect for the procedure. The root canal was pain-free, and I had minimal pain afterwards. Dr. Dryden was able to drill through my newish crown to perform the procedure, thus saving the crown (and me a lot of $$$). He even found and treated a weird little root that had been hidden in the X-ray. I would absolutely return to Dr. Dryden if necessary, and would recommend him to friends in need of endodontic surgery. read more
