North West Eugene Family Dental is wonderful and very professional. I had a hex on an old implant that was out of line causing it to become loose. My original implant was done back in 2006 out of state. DDS Shawn Eckstrom is absolutely a magician when it comes to dentistry and implants. He achieved what no other oral surgeon or dentist did for me. He without hesitation worked on the hex part of the implant. He did refer me to his friend Oral Surgeon Andrew Dow, Dr. Dow follow up on his referral and with Dr. Eckstrom photos and information pass down they got the job completed. DDS Shawn Eckstrom will be finishing up this older implant replacement this up and coming week. I will finally be able to enjoy eating steak and other foods that require a lot of chewing. He has truly given be a better quality of life with his implant work. My upper new implant that he has installed is perfect and feels just like my original tooth. We just moved here from california...I'm old but absolutely petrified of the dentist...always have been. My old dentist (retired before we got here) really understood dental phobia and I had him for 40 years. I looked on several websites for new dentists and he was right around the corner from our new house and he was certified to get the work done I needed...finishing up a couple implants. First he sent me to a specialist to get a couple teeth pulled since he didn't do IV sedation. One was really bothering me so that did help a lot. Coming back to the office to continue care and told me he didn't give anything but Valium for sedatives-didn't work at all and I did, almost begging for something different that might work in a pill form and his reply was "seriously, you need to get over your phobia". Really...after 40 plus years of having panic attacks at the dentist-I can just "get over it". Like I haven't tried all that time-you know how stupid I feel being this old and crying in a dentist chair?"made me feel like I was an idiot. Never stepped foot in that office again. I will have to say the lady that did clean my teeth was very nice and understanding-she went very slow with me crying in the chair- He might be a good dentist-maybe a great dentist-but his bedside manner with patients , especially those with fear of the dentist needs alot of work. read more

Beware before using this Dentist that you may be charged after the fact for unspecified charges. We were customers of this dentist for several years for our whole family and paid every single bill on-time and in full--including our final bill before we moved (with documentation to prove). We received a call requesting $90 to pay for additional charges a few months after we moved out of state. We were at zero balance when we left so this charge was unspecified and unexpected. We asked for a detailed statement specifying the charges because we did pay everything in full but we never received any details as to what this additional charge entails. Never once did we receive any details. Well, fast-forward a few months later and I just got a note in the mail today from a DEBT COLLECTOR. So, it appears we may now be in collections over a paltry $90 additional (unspecified) charge despite several years of appointments for our whole family and being in good-standing the entire time. Ive never even had a late payment for anything ever in my entire life but now my streak is over and my credit potentially impacted because this Dental Office did not have the time, wherewithal, and courtesy to explain to us what charges we owed and would rather send a loyal customer to collections over a pretty underwhelming sum of money. Exceptionally disappointed and I do expect and anticipate that Northwest Eugene Family Dental and Shawn will go out of their way to rectify this ASAP as I'm sure they can see that it will be in their best interest to do so. read more

You all should be ashamed of yourselves for shaming a young girl with major anxiety. Telling her she probably drinks a lot of soda when she doesn't, trying to tell her what to do with her mouth, swarming her... Disgusting. Not only did you scare her and bring her to tears, you didn't help her in anyway and still charged her $160. If you have any decency at all, you will refund that $160 immediately. She was told you accept her insurance, and quoted much lower prices than you gave her upon arrival. Needless to say, she will NOT be coming back to the appointment you manipulated her into making so you could charge $2500 to "help" her. Shame on all of you. read more

Dr. Eckstrom is very patient, professional, and helpful. I moved from out of state and was recommended to him by a coworker. Not only is the office clean, but the wait time is under 60 seconds. I have been many times, since I hadn't been to the dentist in years. He has fixed every last problem and my mouth feels great. The dental assistants and front desk ladies are extremely kind and helpful. I have never had a problem getting an appointment and each appointment is very efficient. The staff is taking every precaution with COVID-19 and I really appreciate that. No wait time, great experience, amazing staff, and no pain!!! I won't go anywhere else... I moved here three years ago from California and used to travel back and forth to see my dentist of 40 years. Picking a new dentist is hard and scary. You get used to the way your dentist did things. For me, it was injections. Would I find anyone as gentle again? I did ask coworkers and not many of them could give me a good dentist they liked. It was always their OK. So I thought well let me read the reviews. Believe when I said i read them all. I actually thought I was going to see another dentist I had picked. I called Dr. Shawn Eckstrom office by mistake, and made an appointment. i though ok i will try him. I am so glad I called the wrong number that day. Dr. Eckstrom is an excellent dentist, and very gentle. I was terrified of getting an injection, and he passed with flying colors l. Just had a horrible experience with the receptionist. Not Trish, the other one... she has been rude to me on the phone multiple times and I always let it slide because I love the work that the dentist and hygienists did. My son has been sick for a couple weeks off and on and unfortunately I am not a psychic and cant tell the future so I could not give 24 hour advance notice to cancel my appointment due to him throwing up. So they are charging me $60. I think with Covid and everything going on they would be a little more understanding but I guess not. I will not be back read more

I have been a patient here for a number of years, and I have been extremely pleased with the quality of care at Dr. Eckstrom's office. The staff is excellent. They are always so friendly and welcoming in a way that puts me at ease. This is a tremendous asset for a dental office since dental procedures aren't exactly fun. Dr. Eckstrom is also very friendly and asks questions to get to know his patients. This has been very helpful for me because I feel very comfortable asking questions and confident that Dr. Eckstrom is looking for the best possible options for my dental care. I struck platinum in choosing this practice to go to for my dental needs mixed in with socializing. No, I'm serious about socializing.;-). I moved from WA state to Eugene last July. Before moving, I was doing research to set up medical care and through my scoping out a few places, this became my first choice. I e-mailed the office and Leah responded so quickly. Truly amazing. She verified insurance and got me set up for an appt. for the week after my move. Score! I met her when I came in that first time and was very pleased. Professional and kind! Score! Jenny was the hygienist that I saw that day. I clicked with her witty sense of humor immediately and knew I was in good hands. She did a great job. I was able to meet the doctor briefly. He is super busy and whizzes around from one room to the next. I don't know how he does it, but he does. Score! My following visit was for a deep cleaning. The hygienist I saw that day was Rebecca. She was awesome! Gentle, thorough, and with a dry sense of humor which I loved. Score! I saw Rebecca two more times after that. Both times, I was so extremely pleased. Fun and wonderful conversations. The visit after that, Mary was the dental assistant that got me started (I had spoken with her briefly before and thought she also was great). It was crown prep day. She was so very gentle, kind, and we had some wonderful conversations as well. Score! Then, the doctor came in all calm, cool, and collected, and we were up and running. He did a terrific job with the prep as well as Mary who deserves much of the credit as well. Teamwork makes the dream work, ya know. Score! Two weeks after that, I came in for the permanent crown to be seated. Mary was super awesome again! Score! The doctor did his thing and then he and I chatted for several minutes about my being from CA and that I had spent lots of time in the area where he was going to be going with his family. He was super fun to chat with. I look forward to my next chat with him. This Wednesday (the 23rd), I went in for another cleaning. Leah and Trista were there upfront and I knew I'd be chatting them up on my way out. I can't help it. They're such awesome gals. Susie was the hygienist this time. Sense of humor so much like mine. It was like talking to a long-lost friend. So much fun! I then spent several minutes chatting with Leah and Trista. They truly are just spectacular people! I am so grateful to the staff here for the work they do but even more so for how welcoming they are. I left a very bad situation in WA with very little of my self-esteem left intact. I took a risk on Eugene. No risk, no reward. I was rewarded. My self-esteem is higher than it probably has ever been in my adult life and it's due in large part because of the truly genuine and kind people I have met in Eugene. Thank you! read more

We have been seeing Dr. Eckstrom since 2003 I think. He has always done the absolute best dental care. You know when you get a filling and it just doesn't quite seat right. A bit too high and you don't want to make another trip in to the office? This never happens with Dr. Shawn. Friday my husband was complaining of a tooth ache. He is not a complainer so, I knew there was something serious going on. We called the office and left a message on a Saturday morning. I thought maybe Dr Shawn or another dentist would be on call. I was right. He talked to my husband for quite sometime and said he would see if he could get his staff to come in. He called right back and said we were on for a Saturday appointment!!! He spent 4 long hours working on my husbands tooth that would have ended him up in the hospital. It turned out my husband had an abscessed molar that was necrotic. One of the root channels had calcified closed! Dr Shawn spent most of the time trying to drill through to make sure that everything was going to heal up nicely with no infections. He prescribed meds to make sure my husband was on the mend with a successful root canal! One of my personal experiences included him calling me at home in the evening to check on my pain levels. His office staff are amazing, so friendly and knowledgable! His office also bills insurance and is super helpful! I just cannot say enough good things about him and the staff. I love going there and actually wish I had more appointments so that I could hang out and chat with Kelly, Shannon and Margaret! Fun people! read more

Fantastic Dentist! I have been a patient of Dr. Eckstrom since 2003 and have been completely satisfied with the care and quality of service I receive. Dr. Eckstrom is very detail oriented and seems to spend as little or as long as it takes to get things done properly. The office is run very efficient by a very comfortable and personable staff.
