I've been a patient of Dr. Yim's for more than 10 years, and he is so conscientious and caring, my wife now sees him. His speed and accuracy of diagnoses is startling, and his compassion exceeds the norm for the profession with calls to patients' home, and taking extra time with office visits to address the patient's concern. I have been with Dr. Yim for 2 years now and find him to be very concerned about health good or needing to address issues. The first visit I had he went over my medical history before seeing me. At our visit he asked me a lot of questions. That impressed me. He is kind and very caring. I highly recommend Dr. Yim. I like his office staff. My mom introduced me to her doctor named Dr. Michael Yim back in September 2024 who grew up in Kansas and one thing I learned about him he grew up in Hong Kong. My experience with Dr. Yim and his staff was a good one. Dr. Yim had obviously reviewed my medical history before seeing me. Dr Yim is my favorite primary care physician. I met with a couple others when I first moved to Tucson and was completely unhappy but finding Dr Yim changed my life in putting the quality of health back into it. He listens, is patient, and tries to find a solution and I have found him to be successful every time. This office treats you like a chart number, not a person. They are so rude and unprofessional. The medical assistants are the most incompetent and impersonal medical personal I have ever dealt with. Trying to get refills is nearly impossible. The Dr. treats your illnesses like a stigma and you will be treated like you are med seeking. I can't recommend Dr. Yim. His medical care was subpar. His office managers (which I presume he is supposed to oversee) are the worst I've come across. Dealing with him and his office has been (for several years running) a real pain - and that was when I was well. If you are sick? In all my years, I have never had a worse experience with a provider. Dr Yim is not welcoming to any method of treatment that isnt in line with his. So much arrogance, negativity. Actually condescending, smirks when you are talking. I brought an idea supported with studies and his response was "I am the Dr., I did go to Medical school". Another time, I was told by a certain online big pharmacy what to tell my Dr so the prescription didnt get rejected. When I shared this with him, he said "Im a Dr. You are asking me to be a clerk". I dont do well with professionals who think they have nothing to learn. The first visit was positive, after that it was stress inducing. Because he is this way, it filters down to the staff as they have to deal with patients with a resulting distrust and anger at his system. They then are defensive and angry. The goal of health care is to get a positive patient outcome through mutual trust and respect. This practice fails miserably. I saw through his intimidation and didnt give up my goals. I've been to Dr. Yim once. Once was enough. In my 70 years of seeing scores of people in the medical profession in some capacity, be it physician, dentist, acupuncturist, nurse practitioner whomever; none have ever begun a session with the question " What do you want me to do?". It is impossible to talk to anyone when you call. You have to leave a message with Dr. Yim's assistant and she never calls back. My latest contact with him has leaving me with less and less confidence in his knowledge. He seems impatient with you, interrupts, and is arrogant. I am looking for another physician. Dr. Yim is one of the sharpest doctors in Tucson. Extremely knowledgeable. If you have a physical problem, he is very effective at asking the right questions and providing a diagnosis or a course of action. Sure, he doesn't spend a lot of time with you. But that's not what I need or want. I want expertise and efficiency. Then I want to get out of his office and get something done for the day. If you feel the same way, Dr. Yim should be you doctor. Just to add: if you're emotionally distraught and need counseling, he probably isn't going to be your guy. Otherwise, he'd call himself a psychiatrist. read more

If you're looking for a medical practice with a compassionate doctor, this is not the place to go. If you're looking for a medical clinic where they employ a competent staff, run in the opposite direction. Dr. Yim SEEMED competent when I first started seeing him. However, as time went on, he became short, impatient and didn't listen, often interrupting me when I was trying to explain an issue. He is arrogant. He ignored a serious skin infection, asking if "the little place burned and itched a bit." I now have missing tissue from the infection. Had I not seen a COMPETENT doctor, I would look like a stroke victim. Getting prescriptions refilled was a marathon production, which often took 2+ weeks AFTER my pharmacy faxed them 3x, called them 3x and I called them 2x. On different occasions, their different assistants called me with three different messages. When I asked one of them why (a) one told me they couldn't fill it, (b) one said my pharmacy didn't fax their address and (c) one told me the prescription was filled (it was, one year of refills) she couldn't answer. I asked her if the staff was incompetent. I wasn't very nice, but TWO YEARS of this was ridiculous. My pharmacy told me it's an ongoing issue with this clinic. (Don't bother with any of the others in this office. They all have the same lame assistants.) The next week, after I had already started looking for a new doctor, I received a registered letter from Dr. Yim, telling me that he has no longer going to treat me because of my "treatment of his office staff." GREAT! When I checked RateMds, there are over TWO DOZEN complaints about him and his office staff. Obviously, he is more concerned with being incompetent and defending incompetent assistants who can't read, than making sure his office is run by people who are intelligent enough to READ RECORDS. Abd since HE can't seem to okay refills, in a timely manner, it is really HIS pprpblem. He is probably too busy making sure he is Mr. Fun guy and one of the gang with his staff. SO...if you're looking for a PROFESSIONAL medical clinic that won't run the risk of killing you, this is NOT the place to go. read more

Dr. Michael Yim was the PCP for my aunt for a few years. She passes away in her sleep at home and was discovered at home in bed on a Monday. Dr. Yim being her PCP is responsible for signing her death certificate. Arizona now does all death certificates on line. The mortuary for my aunt notified Dr. Yim on Tuesday that in order to procced with her cremation he needed to sign the death certificate. In fact to do anything with her estate including bank accounts, burial, cremation, a death certificate must be issued. Dr. Yim, it seems, did not take this last responsibility for the care of my aunt seriously. After several calls to his office all week it took me showing up to his office on a Friday afternoon and sitting there until he decided that he should make the effort to sign her death certificate that is was completed. After sitting in his office for over an hour where there office secretary refused to let me speak to him or anyone else I was finally informed that the death certificate was signed. When I expressed my concern that because Dr. Yim did not sign the certificate in a timely manner the secretary told me Dr. Yim said he was provided the wrong log in information by the state and it was not his fault. My question is why did he not address this issue with the state on Tuesday when he was asked to sign the death certificate? I then left the office and called the mortuary and they informed me that he had indeed signed it about 45 minutes earlier. I then called to the office on Monday and spoke with the office manager who I expressed my concerns. I asked her to have Dr. Yim at the very least send out sympathy cards or make a phone call to her sons and she agreed that was not too much to ask. That was never done. Dr. Yim and his entire staff showed a complete lack of empathy to a grieving family. I wonder where else he lacks empathy in his practice if he cannot even show care to a patient and their family in the end. I question his entire motivation as a doctor. read more

I have seen Dr. Yim 9 or 10 times and I always feel that I am wasting his time. He is good at shaming you into required procedures. So I guess that's good, right?
