Craft stores are becoming the unicorn in SE Aurora. Michaels is the one safe option for selection (as long as inventory is stocked). The fabric area is smaller compared to Joann (which is now closed) and their prices are higher, unless on sale or you have a coupon. I strongly suggest signing up for their rewards program to get coupons, sale alerts, and member only event invites. I haven't been to Michaels for a while but it was nice to see self serve check out lanes (cash or card). The staff is helpful and are present throughout the store. The downside being that their selection to bulk fabric is minimal, felt swatches were about 80% depleted, and the holiday decor overwhelmingly pricey. If you are not in a pickle, always price compare to Amazon or WalMart. read more

I like this location. It's has changed over the years. They mostly have self checkout registers now that went I last year but there seems to always be a person stationed there to help. I don't see as many employees there as I used to in the past. The cost of items here seem to be staying the same over the years. They have fabric here now and they have always had their custom framing counter toward the back of the store. It is just a bit cluttered and needs a new store layout with newer lighting and that's why I took off one star. It needs to be a touch more modern. The customer service has always been great here. Lots of items but an emphasis on decor and the craft supplies seems to continually dwindle. Was looking for Christmas ornaments and their selection was very small. VERY little in terms of fabric and sewing supplies, although they advertise "we now have fabric". Very little for embroidery. Very little for water colors, although they do have lots of paint brushes. Very little for wood craft supplies. They used to carry small ceramic ornaments and houses that you could paint; now they have a couple ornaments and they are expensive. I HATE that all their registers are now self-checkout (on occasion an employee works at one, but I've only seen it rarely). Please bring back more art and craft supplies! read more

First time at this Michaels and my expectations were tempered. I was trying to find a set of markers that could be used to color ceramic Easter eggs. After meandering for a while, I asked for help from an associate. She directed me to the proper aisle. When I had questions regarding the brands of markers, I sought out another associated. The associate professionally answered my questions and I bought a set of markers. The markers had an electronic theft device on it, so I received help from yet another associate during checkout (to deactivate the device). The checkout process was smooth and uneventful. read more

I went in to buy some yarn that was buy one get one half price. When I got there several of the bins had a discount/clearance sticker on the bin. I hadn't bought yarn in quite awhile so I stocked up on all the discounted ones I would use. At the counter they were ringing up at the buy one get one 1/2 price. I explained the discount price. The cashier (unfortunately I didn't catch her name) called the manager who over rode the price of one color. Then the cashier went back to the sale price. I once again explained everything I had came out of a discount bin. The manage came up and said she wasn't over riding all I had. I asked her to walk back with me and showed her the skeins I had and the discount tags. She okayed the price. The whole transaction could have gone poorly. They could have refused to honor the price and they would have lost a customer. Instead they did the right thing and honored the price that was on the bin. read more

Employees literally yelled at my 60 year old mother after she asked for help on finding an item in the store, as well as help placing an order online to be picked up in store. My mother is nothing but respectful, polite, and dare I say, FUN to be around. Throughout my life I've seen her get along so well with employees at Michael's, she's been shopping there for almost two decades. But these employees are the meanest and scariest people I've ever metWhen she told the employee about how she would like to pick up an item in store and order it online here, the cashier started the conversation with, "Well what do you want ME to do about it??" It went downhill from there. As she nervously fumbled through the app to try and figure it out while he just stared at her, he kept yelling things like "Ugh, click HERE not THERE" and "That's the wrong location"!! He might as well just called her a dumbasses and slapped her across the face. I finally stepped in by saying let's just figure it out ourselves over here in another area of the store, and when we couldn't, we just left, not before the worker took the opportunity to STARE US DOWN?? With this mean mug expression on the way out? Like why dude? No wonder the employees don't wear nametags. For the record, he was a cashier there on June 30th, 2024 around 6:45 pm; he's a young man, white, wears glasses, and has light brown short hair. There was another worker that was just as rude to both of us, they were working in the back area by the frames at the same time, he's also white, skinny, a little taller, and also has light brown short hair. Still from time to time I need a craft store and I seem to end up at Michaels. , The benefit of Michaels is they are EVERYWHERE, so they get my business for that fact alone. However, I do find them extremely overpriced on regular price merchandise. I do find that if you wait for their sales then you can get some reasonably priced merchandise, but sometimes you just can't wait for the sale! This one is in Southlands and a bit quieter than others. A bit newer too. Still don't expect a super tidy store. It is packed floor to ceiling with various crafty crap. Today I was purchasing candles that I found on clearance for $5. Upon checking out the candles rung up at $34.99. We pointed out to the cashier the incorrect price. She called for Todd who was EXTREMELY RUDE, my daughter offered to show him a picture she took when she had went back and took while we were waiting for him to come to the front. When offering to show him the photo, he abruptly cut her off mid sentence and said he would go look for himself. After he checked, he yelled from the back to just give us the candles for $5 like we weren't correct. I called after leaving the store and asked Todd for his boss's name. This is for the Southlands Michaels in Aurora/Centennial. After the THIRD time going to their framing department within a couple of weeks trying to get someone to simply cut some foam core for me, and NEVER getting any help, I've given up. I know getting enthusiastic help is hard for some of these retail stores but the young ladies behind the counter simply struck me as not wanting to work. One didn't even acknowledge me, the other avoided contact until I asked if she could help me (this after waiting for the first girl for 15 minutes with no contact). Apparently, she was just visiting her friend (the first girl) in this area of the store because she said she didn't work in that area and didn't know how any of it worked. So she just sat there staring at her shoes. Michaels has good merchandise. Hobby Lobby has junk. So I prefer Michaels but I'm done with this particular store. Get better managers who know how to train employees! read more

I visited Michael's Southlands on the way home from an errand in hopes that I could find beads for a project. I thought the selection was nice if you were looking for small-hole beads, but I'm looking for beads with larger holes which leaves mostly cheap plastic pony beads to choose from. Despite having difficulty hearing my own thoughts over the horrid Halloween decor aisle sounding like someone's being murdered (It's JUNE, Btw) I finally made my selections based on signage that indicated that the beads were on sale. When I got to the dreaded new self check kiosk, none of the items were actually on sale. I tried to look on the app for coupons and sales to no avail. The cashier stated that the sale signage had expired. So I decided against most of my selections since I was expecting to spend about 50% less. Then Several of the beads rang up multiple times no matter how carefully I tried to scan once. Then my card kept getting declined after I couldn't remember my stupid pin. Where is the pin bypass key? I considered just leaving everything at the counter and heading to the exit due to frustration but was afraid it was looking like I was stealing (thanks to the lovely camera with my annoyed-looking mug shot staring back at me from the checkout security camera.) Instead, I came home with a few measly bead strands and found the whole experience pretty disappointing. This is why brick and mortar stores are struggling. I'm going back online, skipping traffic, the lines, having to remember my pin, and the creepy camera that projects my crabby face back at me. read more

There are a couple reasons why I am giving Michael's a detractor... 1. I gave them a canvas photo that was super nostalgic to me, I paid $220 to get it mounted/framed/etc. I really don't know the terms, nonetheless I was completely unsatisfied. 2. I told them I wasn't satisfied and they tried to redo the framing and they pulled the canvas so hard that it cracked the paint that was on the canvas (the young lady at Michael's noticed it too) 3. When they said they were going to redo it, they said it would be a couple days. I followed up in two weeks because I didn't hear from them and I was told "the person that was supposed to call you wasn't doing their job." Nonetheless it was ready, but nobody would have informed me if I didn't call 4. They understood that I wasn't satisfied, I let them know on a Friday, I was supposed to get a follow up call within 24-48 hours and have heard nothing. 5. Michael's has a satisfaction guarantee and hasn't lived up to it... There is a lack of accountability. All that being said, it's pretty simple, I won't go back to Michael's for anything picture related. It's a typical case of over promising and under delivering. Oh yeah... I forgot. This is my go-to craft store. It's nearby and I recently discovered that they will accept coupons from Hobby Lobby and JoAnne's as well. One coupon per day. So I take all my coupons there and get 40% off all the time! They have a great selection of crafty stuff here too. My wife and I went to Michaels to purchase a cooking pan. There were 2 cashiers open. I was about the 6th customer waiting. Just before it was my turn I asked a young man at cashier #2 to call the manager to get more cashiers since the line was backing up to around 30 customers. He said the manager was at # 1 cashiers station helping out that cashiers. After about 15 minutes I went to cashier #3. I asked to talk to the manager to find out he was just walking by me. I asked the manager who said his name was Dylon. Why don't you get more cashiers up here the line is growing long. He clapped his hand together like a little girl to make noise and said that he didn't have anyone else to work the cashier stations. I replied then why don't you open up a cashiers station. He clapped his hands again to make some noise and tried to explain that he is a manager and that wasn't his job. I replied your a manager so do your job and open a cashiers station. After several hand claps to make noise I guess I embarrassed he to open the cashiers station #5. Boy what is Michaels corporation doing hiring a person that calls himself a manager but doesn't what to work the cashiers station or make a decision. Doesn't he understand if customers don't buy items from this store he would not have a JOB. WTH. Michaels really needs to take a better look at their hiring manager that can manage not people that stand there clapping their hands to make noise like a little girl! I maybe go to Michaels once a year, usually when I'm looking for holiday decorations or when I finally commit to completing a Pinterest project I pinned years ago. I stopped by this location for the former reason and instantly remembered why people are obsessed with this store. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING!! Not only did I find Xmas décor but I also found gifts for my secret santa at work, birthday gifts for my winter friends and random photo frames for 50% off. Along with their sales you can pull up coupons on their website so I got an extra 20% off everything I purchased that day. Add to that, every employee had an authenticity about them that makes me want to come back asap.....or whenever next pay day rolls around. read more

She helped us select the right products then set us up in the craft room to do the actual project. I had been in Michael's several times in the past, but until Mae brought up the crafts room we didn't know it existed. She checked-in on us several times and helped us to complete the project. Michael's is one of those relatively expensive places that you don't think to go to unless you've been everywhere else and they don't have it and you realize that there's a craft store right here. I never enter the door unless I have a coupon, cause that will at least bring their prices down to a manageable level. An average coupon for something like 40-50% off. But I have bought quite a few things here: picture frames, poster frames, crafty stuff, etc. When you walk in the door you're assailed by the massive stuff packing every inch of the place, including the walkways. Good luck trying to walk 2 abreast down the aisles. Come with a coupon and a plan of attack for exactly what you want and you should be able to get in and out with ease. read more

They changed the layout of the store, not their fault but, I AM SO LOST! It was easier to find things the old way, however I can't complain, I suppose I should accept the fact that things change. I have slowly started to learn where the things are I go to often. Bags for treats, markers, kids art projects, etc. The staff is always nice and helpful, the registers are always busy however it goes quickly so it's perfect for my little ones and their attention span. I love shopping here when they have their sales. I buy art supplies and can get canvases for 70% off here. The only issue I run into is with their stock. This last sale I went to three different stores to find the 12x12 size. The first store said online it had plenty of stock, but when I arrived they only had one available. I like Michaels for quick standard stuff like a brush or a tube of paint or even gesso. I like the fact that I can just run in and grab something. They have good prices on canvas packs, and when you get the 20% discount coupon, it's a good idea to stock up, but for the majority of my supplies I go online, but I like having Michaels available for quick in-and-out items. This one in Aurora, at Southland Mall is my standard one, but I haven't been in there for a while, and they had re-organized and I had a hard time finding the stuff I need. It also looks like they stopped carrying some of the items I normally get, or where just out. "Maria" an employee at michaels very rudely asked me to move as I looked around for an employee to help me. I wanted them to reach for a garland that was located at a top rack. She used a very loud voice as she would talk to me. Yes, I understand that it is Black Friday. It is no reason to be rude to someone that comes it to get one thing. As I checked out she again, decided to use this loud condescending voice "here!" as she would pass a few canvases to me instead of placing them on the side. I have come to michaels many times in the past. I have never been miss treated this way by anyone in any store. I have worked as a customer service representative in the past. I know for a fact this person should not be doing this for a living. I am completely appalled by this persons behavior. I hope this is somehow resolved. read more

Hmmm how to start this off. I've been to probably 4 different michaels locations: two here and two back in va. This one is no different than the others. Their prices are high (always have a coupon) and you have to hunt for someone in order to get a question answered. Other than that, I haven't come across any rude associates and they are helpful...only if asked though. Lines can be somewhat long. A lot of the times they only have one register open. But I can usually find what I am looking for (which at the moment is wedding stuff). If you are looking for lower prices you may want to look elsewhere or online. read more

Excellent customer service! Yes. It actually still exists in rare pockets of the world! While walking through the store I noticed a customer struggling to load her overflowing cart with two large pillows. Almost immediately, an employee walked up and asked if she could take the pillows to the check out area so the customer didn't need to make room in the cart. Give that lady a raise! Then, as my family was walking to the car, our cashier came running into the parking lot to give us some merchandise we accidentally dropped on the way out. And then she took our cart so we didn't have to return it. Why can't all my shopping experiences be this pleasant?! Well done! read more

Went in tonight at 530 to exchange stuff I'd purchased. They offered instore credit for the lowest price the items had have been sold for for store credit-so lost half the value of the purchase. So I went to find something to spend the credit on. I waited in line for 15 min with the only cashier that was open. When she rang me up the clearance item I thought I had picked rang up double what the barcode below it stated. She had another associate check the price and she said the double $$ as well. I Asked for the associate to stay there so I could see what she was seeing. She showed me a separate barcode next to it w the size in 4 font stating the clearance sign was for the item behind it on a seperate shelf. This is extremely misleading and merchandised very poorly! When I walked back to the front of the store to finish my transaction the only cashier that was working then told me I needed to get into the back of the line behind the following 5 people that had walked up behind me while I was waiting in line the 1st time. I was in mid transaction-it's pretty rude to make a customer stand in line twice for the same transaction that the store tried to charge me double what the item was marked. Overall very poor customer experience! read more

I will never spend a dime here again. I could not find an employee to save my life. Once you do they don't even acknowledge your existence. It's as if it's a chore to help you Every time I've been there I was told they don't carry what I want. My first visit here I asked where the sequins were and he asked what they were. I serious had to describe what a sequin was and he still had no clue. How stupid can your employees be? What is the point of this store if you carry nothing useful. and have zero help. I'm better off driving the distance to Hobby Lobby, at least there the workers there have compassion and know what the store carries. Someone seriously needs to educated the workers there. As a 4th grade teacher, I am always looking for good deals for my students. I wanted to make miniature gingerbread houses with them, but saw that the coupon I had wouldn't be in effect for two days. I asked the manager, Rich, If the store could hold them for me until then and he said that he would honor the coupon today and he gave me the already discounted price! This is a heads up about the framing department. Not one, but 2 of the employees we dealt with promised completion of a project in a specific timeframe, and neither delivered. The first one not only never contacted me that it was done, but also put the wrong mat on. The second one said, "I laid it aside and forgot about it." when we went to pick it up.
