Based on the reviews I decided to give Michael's a try. Working from home gives me the flexibility to go at off hours, which paid off. Walked in, no waiting, yeah! At this point I'll be repeating all of the positive reviews. He's meticulous and very thorough. Had no stray hairs by the time he was done. Cleaned the edges with a straight razor and took care of the evidence of getting old by trimming eyebrows, ears, and nose. I appreciated the attention, atmosphere, and results. If you ever make an "appointment" with this guy, be ready to wait an hour before he even gets to you. All he does is yap yap yap throughout the other guy's haircut making your wait time even longer. I made an "appointment" for 11:30 a.m. and even arrived 15 minutes early only to have my spot taken away. Not only did I wait over an hour, I also had to leave because I had to get to my job...which was at 2. I didn't even get my hair cut! This guy is unreliable and doesn't know how to manage his time. Maykel gives hands down, the best haircuts I've ever had. Attention to detail is his specialty. If you want a quick chop job for triple the price, go to V's but if you want a skillful, passionate guy to cut your hair and make sure every single angle and line is perfect, go see my boy Maykey. I work just around the corner from this small shop and there's a lot of competition for barbers nearby. Since moving back to Arizona from San Diego three years ago, I haven't been able to completely settle in with one particular barber. I've gone to the bigger shops like V's and Gentleman Joe's, to the solo-run shops like Michael's and everywhere in between. I got my first cut at Michael's shop last night and I'll definitely be going back to him. The guy straight up knows what he's doing. As other reviews have mentioned, he's very detail-oriented and will take as much time as he needs (and you allow) to get it just right. Every guy knows that a sloppy fade looks and feels terrible, so it's imperative that it's blended correctly. It's a pretty fair assessment to say that guys are pickier about their hair than most women. That being said, if you want to take a little more off or change your mind during the cut, Michael is extremely friendly and doesn't make you feel like you should just sit there and deal with it. He wants to you speak up and is very easy to talk to. A lot of barbers make you feel awkward when you want to make the slightest of changes and that's definitely not the case here. That alone can't be understated but the quality of cut for a very fair price is what will make you come back. He's also very accommodating if you want to come in last minute or later than normal hours. The location is somewhat hidden but once you find it it, Michael makes all of his clients feel welcome. I'm usually not one to write reviews, but after my experience at Michael's Barber Shop, I felt compelled to share my my experience. Michael's chair is in the back of the shop. There's a flat screen television with surround sound. He uses quality equipment that seems to be well maintained. And his area is clean and organized. All of this doesn't even compare to Michael's story and the quality of his work though... When you go to Michael's shop, be sure to ask him about how he learned to be a barber. Ask him about his Cuban heritage and how he is thriving in Phoenix as an independent barber. While I was talking with him, I felt like I was talking to an old friend. He made me feel comfortable in his shop and paid very close attention to our conversation. Michael gave me the most quality haircut I have ever had! His meticulous attention to detail and precision with his tools is amazing! All of his lines are straight, his fades are perfect, his scissor work isn't sloppy like most barbers, and he takes his time. This is by far the best experience at a Barber Shop I've ever had. Michael is a haircut genius. I've never had someone be so attentive to my hair. He went over my head ten times at least just to make sure the shaved part was perfect. Then he started on the rest of my hair. He used scissors and was very careful making sure he cut it to the right length. The cut was perfect. More importantly my wife loved it as well. Plus, Mike gave me a shave with a straight razor. Micheal is a perfectionist. I've gotten my haircut with so many barbers across the country and Michael's line ups and fades are definitely on point. The wait is a little long and he usually takes a little longer then what I'm use to but it's all well worth the wait. The tremendous job he does with my hair is well worth the wait and the time he spends cutting my hair. If you hate waiting then call ahead like I do it's a first come first serve business so when I call I make sure he has no one else waiting.
