There answers were short. No other customers were in the store! I bought $200 worth of yarn. When I went up to the counter with my purchases, one of them started to be nice. Two other customers cane into the store while I was shopping. These women were very friendly to them. I've been knitting for sixty years. I used to manage fabric stores. I know what good customer service is. I will never walk into that store again.

We must be slow learners because it was really hard to catch on to stitches & our instructor did some of the stitches for us. My tutorial is MIA our daughter has to get instructions:& my Password from Woobles owns the copyrights to their patterns. I can say we are a little better at crocheting than when we walk through the door. It's a cute shop with lots of different types of vibrant colored yarn. Instruction books gifts & classes. When I had trouble figuring out her website, the owner worked with me, and when I took a class wanting to do something very specific (make a traditional wired-brim hat that duplicated the look of one from a film), she helped me with that too even though it was slightly different from what the class was about (making an artistic felt hat). This is the only place in the suburbs that I know of which does any kind of millinery classes (felt hats from wool roving), and I'm grateful it's available. The owner's primary focus is the fabric arts (felting; weaving; dyeing) but also offer some bead and jewelry classes; the class I just took was a jewelry-making class in silver, copper, brass and even bronze taught by another artist. We all walked out with a generous handful of pieces we'd made and it was a lot of fun. I feel lucky to have access to such a variety of classes without having to drive in to Chicago, and the Berwyn studio is also fairly convenient. You might be taking a class all by yourself or with some other people; she has huge quantities of supplies, is patient guiding students, and you'll leave with something cool you made yourself. (She also sells tools and some of her / others' art. Some open studio available.) Limited parking in the back; some street parking. Studio might be a bit cold in the winter; consider a sweater or hoodie.

While I was having lunch nearby at Lazy Dog with my family, a representative from this shop decided to use the entire parking lot as their personal dumping ground, going row by row shoving unsolicited advertising flyers under the windshield wipers of every single vehicle including mine. Let's be entirely clear: nobody wants your marketing garbage forced onto their car. It is incredibly invasive and disrespectful to touch someone else's vehicle without permission. Beyond that, it creates an immediate, ugly litter problem for the neighborhood when these papers inevitably blow away or get tossed onto the pavement by annoyed drivers. If a company has to resort to desperate, intrusive, guerrilla-style littering tactics just to get eyeballs on their brand, it speaks volumes about the sub-par quality of their operation. I will absolutely never support Tuft A Rug, and I strongly urge everyone else to take their business to other local shops that actually respect private property and the community.

I've been an artsy gal my…read morewhole life and have done all the artsy activities that you can do with your friends but rug tufting definitely takes the cake. Tuft-A-Rug is located in Fox Valley Mall, which is perfect as most other rug making locations are in the city. Walking by, you can immediately see people already at work (a genius way to grab people's attention!). You start by choosing what size rug you would like to make, as price and time requirements differ with both. I recommend booking in advance. If you come as a group, the fee also becomes discounted. I chose the 21x18 size and went with a friend which came to about $60 per person. It starts out with a demonstration so you get to practice a bit! I was super nervous but once you get the hang of it, it's so much fun. You can make any design you want. You'll trace out the image by either free handing it, or you can use your phone to project a picture and trace it that way. A tip is that if you know what you want to do and have an image, you can actually email it to them and they can trace it ahead of time so it's ready- which is super convenient. There's a plethora of color yarn you can choose from. I know I keep saying it, but seriously, this activity was so much fun. Once it comes together it really gives you so much satisfaction. It did take quite a bit of time, and the bigger and more complex your design, the longer it will take. I, of course, like to make my life complicated for some reason so it took a bit of time, maybe about 3 hours. But it came out SO cute! I made a hedgehog laying in a bed of daisies!! Please do note, that you will not go home with your rug the day of. They do have to finish it which may take about a month (it can be shipped if need be). There are some options of finishing touches that you can select. And if you do have some small patchiness that might need a touch up, they're happy to help! Service was awesome, the owner Keaton was the bomb. So patient, funny, and super helpful! Even with a bigger group he managed to help everyone when they needed it. The location is ideal, there's definitely enough space and seating, cool walls to take photos with your rugs. The playlist was bomb. The price is completely fair and actually very affordable for the service, time, and product. I really have nothing but more raving to do about this place and wish it all the best. I've already recruited a friend group to come back and do it with me! Keaton is passionate about his work and it is very clear in the way it is set up! So as always, please support local businesses and especially this one which is unique and so much fun! You won't regret it!
