Went here with my husband and my son! This is a really great place, and the people of this town are so nice. I purchased a skein of Italian yarn and a bunch of different Harney and Son's tea. I would say this place is fairly priced for the yarn as tariffs has caused yarn to increase. The tea that was suggested was delicious!! The tea selection is broad and buying loose tea in bulk (you can choose however many ounces you want) let me get a bunch of varieties to take home at a reasonable price. I think I walked past this place a hundred times without stopping. Then I noticed a sign in their window advertising knitting classes, and I decided to check it out. The front room of Betsy's is mostly dedicated to tea. They have a huge selection of loose and bagged teas. You can buy single bags of many of the teas if you want to try them before committing to a bigger box, and you can buy as little as an ounce of the loose teas. The staff is extremely helpful, and they always throw in a little something extra for me to try. The back room of Betsy's is full of yarn and knitting/crocheting supplies. There are tons of varieties of yarn and long tables where the classes are held. This is one of the coolest places in Lockport. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Absolutely adorable shop with first-rate service. I was able to find my favorite hard-to-find Republic of Tea Christmas tea. As I was browsing, it was being wrapped up in pretty tissue with ribbons. Betsy's sits along the historic I&M canal. The building that Betsy's is housed in is the Norton Building, not the Gaylord Building as previously mentioned; the building served as a lock tender's house back when the canal was functional in the late 1800's - early 1900's There is a branch of the Illinois State Museum adjacent to Betsy's that has free admission, so you can check it out after a visit to Betsy's. Fantastic shop! Incredibly attentive! I went here to buy a gift for a friend who is into tea and knitting. This is a heaven for both! I did not know where to start tea wise. However, the proprietor was kind enough to lower boxes of tea to give me a delicious whiff of popular ones. She even opened a new bag of loose leaf tea! I ended up getting bags of Darjeeling and Cinnamon tea! As for the yarn, I knew that my friend knitted scarves, so the proprietor pointed out suitable ones. So many colors! When I told her it was a gift, she went to work wrapping each item in tissue paper and placed them in a brown paper gift bag. Flourished with colorful ribbons! I thought the price was wonderful! $17 dollars for delicious tea, gorgeous yarn, and beautiful wrapping? A STEAL! Will definitely shop here again! read more

What a great find in the quirkly little town of Lockport! Betsy's is part tea shop, part yarn store and part gift boutique and I was impressed by the variety of adorable things you might find in this store. The assortment of bagged, loose and whole teas is amazing!! And the prices are so reasonable (compared to a place like Teavana where you have to take out a 2nd mortgage to buy a canister of tea). I spoke with the owner Robert as he painstakingly wrapped my purchase and educated me about the store and owners - I was smitten with the place after just one visit. I went here today because of the great reviews on Yelp and was delighted with the store. The selection is amazing and the owner a delight. I bought one tin of tea and she wrapped it nicer than most presents I receive plus put in 5 complimentary tea bags. If you like tea or yarn, it's a must visit. This place is great. I enjoy green tea, and they have so much loose tea it made my head spin, but the employees/owners are so helpful, it is very easy to find just what you like with a quick sniff of a few different teas. They also have a "tea sheet" that explains what exactly each tea is and what is in it. From oolongs to sencha, earl grey to cinnimon spice, all of it (that Ive tried so far) is great. When I hear someone mention tea in the Lockport area, Im sure to let them know this is THE place to go to find what suits their tastes just right. Pretty much what March 9th's review said. This is a great store to spend a few leisurely hours in, browsing the gourmet goodies, sipping tea (or just enjoying the scents of tea) and looking at the yarn and the _wall_ of knitting and crocheting notions in the back. The owners are extremely welcoming and helpful, it's always a pleasure to shop here. They have moved since the 3/9/09 review was written though, they're now in the Gaylord Building right along the old canal with a parking lot out front. read more

Loved it! So many teas to choose from! So many cute gifts! And if you are into knitting..so much yarn! The best part is the owners..they know their stuff! We stopped by there earlier today and tried to ask questions about the tea. The owner of the store could not have been more rude. He did not want to answer any questions, and I cannot imagine why he would not since this is what they do there. Maybe he was in a hurry to get home. Not sure, but I will never set foot in that place again. How you can treat people this way when you own a business is beyond me. I asked him if this is normally how he treats customers. He did not respond. I would suggest you do business in a place where people will be attentive to your questions. Even with this review I have given this man much more respect than he did my wife and I earlier. read more

I knit as a hobby and decided I wanted to give Betsy's a try as I do not have local yarn shops that are very close to where I live. I asked my sister in law to come with me because she likes to crochet. When we were getting ready to check out the old man working there told my sister in law that her purse was really big and he hopes she didn't put a bunch of stuff in it. What the heck? Nothing like going somewhere and being accused of shop lifting for no reason. Needless to say we felt uncomfortable as we left. I have never felt the need to shop lift and I do not feel the need to go back to this place. There's a really wonderful yarn store in downtown LaGrange that is so much nicer and the women that own the store could not make you feel more welcome. It's called Idea Studio - it might not be close if you live in the Lockport area, but it is definitely worth the trip! read more

The first thing that struck me is that it is very reasonably priced for all tea and accessories. The staff is friendly and wraps all purchases and jokes that they're "your gifts to yourself so they deserve to be wrapped". I love that and it sets the perfect tone to enjoy your tea. One down side is there is not a lot of varieties of tea. They obviously specialize -and excel- in black and green tea. I was looking of a rooibos and pueh and was unable to find it. But with these prices and friendly staff I'm willing to overlook that and give four stars! read more

Love this little shop! I go to class nearby at Lewis University and it is only a short drive away. The owner is SO sweet and helpful. I was surprised by the very reasonable prices. I picked out some candies, a box of spicy cinnamon tea bags (they're great), and loose leaf hibiscus tea for my boyfriend (which he loves). The owner even placed the tea for my boyfriend in a brown bag with green tissue paper and tied the handles of the bag together with a cute string bow. The selection of teas can't be beaten, and I can always find a lovely yarn to knit with.
