I came here out of curiosity to see yarn prices & other knitting supplies. There is a somewhat lack of variety & empty bins. But, maybe they are in the midst of restocking. I don't know. The prices are a bit more expensive than other places. In any case, I might come back here if I can't find the yarn that I need for my next knitting project. Lack of staff. No, "can I help you find something?" But, maybe it was because it was a weekday & not the bustling weekend. I don't know. Ummmm, yeah. That's my overall feeling about this place. read more

Its pretty neat that it's a two story art store but right off the bat I noticed the escalator...terrible idea. It makes the whole store look bad and gives it a more mall like feel. But good selection of any type of craft you'll ever want to do. read more

When I was in St. Louis, I went to Michael's once and never, ever to return. If it was at all possible to give this place zero stars, it would not have gotten one star from me. I had frequented this location when it was Borders Books but stopped going there when Borders closed. Parking wasn't much of a problem when it was the bookstore, but it is now. I was working on a series of paintings for a gallery project that I was putting together and ran out of a particular color of paint. My regular art supply place was closed so I tried Michael's: big mistake. They are limited in their paint supply, and only had student grade paint, not high quality professional grade paint. In other words, it was the cheap shit. All their canvasses are made in China and not of a good quality because there were visible defects on all canvasses, plus they didn't have the size which I wanted. The only have the basic colors in oil and acrylique--they didn't have the specific paint that I wanted. I will never buy any of my supplies there unless I am absolutely desperate and there is no other alternative. None of the Michaels staff was around for any type of customer assistance, so that was just about the worst part of it. After I found the section which had the paints and canvasses, I was thoroughly disappointed. The rest of the store was disorganized and very junky looking for all sorts of craft type projects. Unless you're into that type of craft type stuff, it's a waste of time. I left empty handed. read more

I've been in Michael's in other locations and walked out, not thoroughly impressed. But when I walked into the Michael's in Brentwood, I became a true fan. I've never encountered a rude employee, their cashiers are polite and have always seemed genuinely interested, and I've always found more than I went there for. The only downside is the parking lot. We had a very large item that needed to be framed. Jenna helped us and did an amazing job! When they first finished it, it ended up being too big - so, they happily redid the entire job to make it perfect for us. And even let us pick a different mat for the second time around. It turned out perfect - absolutely gorgeous, and they did not charge us a dime for the redo. Incredible customer service!!!!!!! And craftsmanship!!! This place is not so much for the artsy set, but for the crafty/artsy set. If you need a for sure serious art supply store, than Art Mart is your go to place. This is a great place to get every known color of glitter, an unimaginable range of eye candy to decorate just any bout anything. My wife dragged me in here looking for a specific knitting needle, and although they did indeed have some knitting stuff, not what she needed. The whole place is a little like that. If your a painter, yes, they do have paints, but if you need that oh so special paint or paper, you may not find it here. But the glitz and crazy stuff, they do seems to have plenty of. I also would think its a scrap bookers heaven and for kids, lots and lots of stuff. Now, on the downside, the check out system here is really long, the staff seemingly confused by every transaction, and this was confirmed by a couple of people who visited here at different times of the day. The footprint of this store required two stories, so they put in an escalator. Not sure why an escalator in particular --these are very costly and limiting to some kinds of customers. Nonetheless, kinda cool, kinda not. Even at, the inventory of this store is much more limited than some other locations. But you can do a lot of other kinds of shopping in the same parking strip, so that's helpful. read more

Pros: big store, clean. Their selection is pretty decent, especially with scrap booking supplies and storage stuff. Cons: parking here is terrible. Tight spots and narrow lanes. Service isn't great. Sometimes I can't find an employee at all when I need help, while another time I was trying to quickly choose some paper and leave and an associate kept trying to chat me up. read more

This was perhaps the worst shopping experience I have ever had. If I did not desperately need the items I was purchasing, I would have just left. At the last minute I was dumped on to make some baskets for my daughter's school. I found several useful things and was ready to check out. After at least a 30 minute wait, I went up to a fairly new and clueless checker. I tried to be patient. After 20 minutes, she declared, "I'm not sure what is wrong, I have to get a manager." The manager came and seemed more interested in tidying up that helping me. I heard her say, "Well, I'll have to do this after you all leave." I thought, "I would leave now if I didn't need this stuff." After another 15 minutes and several rude comments from her, it was determined that the "problem" was that I tried to purchase gift cards with a credit card. She acted like I had murdered a child. I said, "I do this all the time at Schnuck's." I have been back to Schnuck's to confirm. She was relentless, "No retailers allow this." I just told you Schnucks does. No. I said does you sign say this. "No, everyone knows this. And I'm sure it says it on the back." Does everyone read the fine print on the backs of the cards? Seriously??? Anyway. It was awful. I doubt I will ever go back, which is rare for me to do "one strike and you're out." read more

I love Michaels! I enjoy their crafts, decorations and selections. This however was my first visit to this location. It used to be a Borders store. I appreciate the escalator but the store is difficult to figure out the layout. For a space that was recently remodeled it feels old and bleak. They were busy, it was difficult to find help. When I checked out the girl went thru the motions of asking if I found everything I needed but she wasn't super friendly. I'll continue to shop Michaels but at the other locations I visit normally. read more

I called in advance to check on a specific item. The female cashier told me over the phone that yes they carry that item. I asked her if they had them in stock , I waited briefly over the phone and was told they did. I told her I was on the way to purchase it. I arrived approximately 10 minutes later to find that no one actually looked for the item nor was it even in stock. She (cashier from the phone call) just looked at me smiled and said she was sorry. My time is important and limited during the weekends. I called in advance BEFORE I made the special trip to the Brentwood location. NO ONE even bothered to check if the item was in stock. This location uses walkie talkies to communicate between associates, so I'm at a loss as to why my customer service request was not handled appropriately. I'm no longer shopping with this company. I'm normally a fan of Michaels, but this location doesn't have their act together at all. It lacks any signage about how the store is laid out and they are completely understaffed which makes it impossible to ask someone for help if you're looking for something. Not to mention they have 7 or 8 registers but only operate 3 of them with 15 or more people in line. I waited in line for 22 minutes and the cashiers made no attempt to help customers in line, apologize or call for help to the registers. read more
