I popped into this Michael's location to help save my idea of a D.I.Y. Chris Brown concert ensemble. I was in search of fabric shears and some sort of handheld sewing device that would better serve me than the one that I'd purchased from Amazon. This was the first location that I've ever seen with an upstairs. Many of the items were locked into place, and I had to summon a nearby employee for assistance. Eventually, I was able to locate the shears, but I was left with no options to replace my handheld sewing machine. The shear kit that I purchased was reasonably priced and the self-service kiosks for checking out were a convenient touch. read more

A little frustrating to navigate, I will tell you that as a warning. The place is real big so that's mighty, there's even a elevator! That's not exactly the reason why though. The shelving and organization of the place can get a bit junky and jambling. Lots of craft materials and decorations, I was always able to get what I looked for. Something I noticed is that the seasonal items ARE a bit more pricey than the normal ones, so that's something to look at but that's normal apparently. Service was decent, nothing special. In the 2 times I've been to this location the service was absolutely horrible. The staff doesn't know anything. Even talking to several workers. Online orders take a ridiculous amount of time. They say they'll be done within 2 hours but it's been 2 hours and it's still not ready. My order was not that large. The customer service couldn't even tell me where my order was in line to be completed. Bumping up a Star today for the outstanding customer service. They went beyond my expectations in helping me find what I was searching for. Again, I will state I am not an arts and craft person, so I rarely shop stores like Michaels. I was on a mission, I needed a pillow insert that measured 16x16. I have decorative holiday pillow covers I use for a chair in my foyer. When I bought a non-holiday cover, I accidentally bought it in a smaller size. That is when I learned that when shopping on the internet, you've got to make sure you've checked all the right boxes. Wanting to put my non-holiday pillow out, I needed my insert NOW. I was going to be in STL for the day, so I thought I try various stores to find the size I needed. I had no luck. Even the store with 3 B's in its name didn't have one. As I turned right on Brentwood from Edgar, my brain clicked and thought of Michaels. I made a U-turn (legally) and drove back to Michaels. I immediately was captivated by fall and Halloween decor. I snagged a couple of pieces for my home and continued my search for the pillow inserts. Bummer, I couldn't find them and went to the check-out to pay for my purchase. That is when the outstanding customer service kicked in. The cashier asked if I found everything I was looking for and needed. For once, I was honest and said, "no". She and the other lady behind the counter immediately quizzed me on what I needed. When I told them a pillow insert, they knew that they had them. The one finished ringing me out, while the other ran upstairs (it's a two level store) to fetch my pillow. After being rung out, I stepped out of the way for social distancing and so other shoppers could be rung out. While I stood there, the one lady radioed the cashier and asked her how many inserts I needed. They indeed had the pillows. I responded, I just needed one. Before she could return with my pillow, another associate working stock noticed me standing there and came over to make sure I didn't need any type of assistance. I informed her that her co-workers were on it and taking care of me. When the associate returned with my pillow insert, it was perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for and needed. She then took me to a register and opened it up, so I did not have to get back in line to check-out. All of this was service beyond my expectations. To have this type of service is impressive, wither it is during a pandemic or not. I am a fan of Michales now. Michaels is my go-to store for most of my acrylic and oil painting supplies. The other day I came here for some linoleum for print making and none of the staff I spoke to knew what I was speaking of. One staff member recommended I go upstairs but I found nothing and I asked another member who told me they didn't have what I wanted at all. The store wasn't busy but I don't feel like my experience was the most helpful or accommodating. I did end up finding the print making section alone, downstairs with single pads of linoleum but what I was looking for were packs in bulk. The store only carried one type from one brand which is kinda bunk. I guess I'm better off online shopping or at a different arts store for print making. read more

FYI. Frustrating. I'm looking for 2 large canvas ( my aunt is an artist and she's going to do a couple oil paintings for me). I stopped in Michael's. Canvas online are 50% off but guess what? In store they're buy-two get two free. I don't need four. This makes no sense and is unfair to the brick and mortar stores since it discourages customers from coming in. So you lost a $$ sale today. I give this location a 0 The manager was very rude and argued about the door buster sign that was on the flowers. Out of all of the flowers I picked out, one was the only one that was not on sale. They put half of them to the side and said the were not apart of the sale. To say the least they just missed out on a pretty good sell since we put everything back a bought nothing. As long as this women is manager the store will not be ran with good customer service. I use this Michael's a lot for random moments when I run out of a paint color or I'm in need of new canvas. I've set up a rewards account with them but the coupons seems to change at a moments notice and they send so many emails that the coupons that work are hard to find. For example I have had 3$ of rewards in my account but at checkout every time they say they can't apply it because I can't find the original email... despite it being clearly listed in every email the amount of $ I have in points. Michael's feels like a stressful scavenger hunt when trying to find the best deal. Make sure you double check the fine print that's hard to find. The staff I have spoken to at this location have been kind but are also clearly exhausted. Now to my number one gripe... this store smells so bad! At first, about two years ago, I assumed it was just an off day. It's consistent. My partner actually asks we drive out to one farther away to avoid the stink. I'm not sure what the deal is but I truly feel for the workers. read more

Michael's has been my go-to for anything craft-related and more recently, holiday decor. This location boasts an enormous 2-story store with marked aisles to help you shop at ease. I was stopped by several employees walking the floor, asking/ensuring that I was finding everything ok. When asked, our questions were always promptly answered. Their inventory seems to be well stocked, as I never have to hail someone down to see if an item is available at another store if there's any in the back room. My one complaint is their parking. They share a huge lot with several other stores, often making it a challenge to find a parking space. read more

Every register was manned but there were not that many customers. That meant there was no employee out on the floor. I learned a very valuable lesson about the vast difference in capabilities and servicing between Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I ordered a custom mat on February 17, 2024. I simply wanted to replace an existing black mat, with three 8X10" openings, that came in a photo frame I purchased, with a cream-colored mat of the same exact dimensions. The store clerk asked to take the measurements so any mistakes would be attributable to them, and not me. The cream-colored mat had to be sent out for order and could not be cut in the Brentwood, MO store location, because they're unable to cut mats with multiple openings on site. I paid $76.41 for the mat. It arrived a week and two days later on February 26. I took it home and discovered the three 8X10" openings of the new cream-colored mat did not line up with the black mat. I returned to the store on February 27 to have it redone. I was told that measurements were taken of the outer dimensions of the mat, as well as the three openings, but not between the three openings, so the mat will never compare exactly to the black mat. I was told I must instead order a cream-colored replacement for the black mat in addition to a replacement for the white mat under which the black mat sits in the photo frame, and I was not offered a refund. I have no idea why the Michael's staff is unable to include measurements between multiple openings in a mat, but it seems like BS to me. I immediately drove to the Hobby Lobby location in Kirkwood, MO. A very helpful store clerk assisted me. They will cut the mat on-site, in the store. They will take all measurements of the black mat, so the new cream-colored mat matches it directly. They will only charge me $25 instead of $76 for the single mat. I will take all future custom mat orders to Hobby Lobby, not Michael's. read more

It's two floors of Michael's - that alone makes it nifty. This store always looks immaculate. It's never full of product yet to be stocked making it difficult for you to shop. I get most of my wall art frames here. Lines get long at peak and off-peak times. I tend to run in for what I need and hurry to the line. read more

Pros: Convenient location, typically have parking available in front of the store. Very large selection - we can almost always find what we need there! Employees are typically friendly and helpful. Cons: Not much in the way of cons, but the prices seem pretty high here. Pretty sure I could find similar items for cheaper at target or WalMart. Lastly, they are clearly super big on the classic patriotism/religion combo, and their store is typically littered with these types of items. As an agnostic humanitarian, I find this annoying, but it's far from a dealbreaker. I do wish if they were going to do this, that they would offer more diversity in these types of products. All in all, we like it here, recommend it, and hope to one day try one of their classes out. read more

For a crafting fein like myself, this two story mega-store makes all my wildest Pinterest dreams seem possible. Everything is clean, easily accessible and in their own sections. There's a sign right inside telling you what's on each floor but there aren't hanging signs over designated areas telling you what is there (which would make it even more convenient!) They really do have everything you could want, especially when it comes to scrapbooking and the children's crafts section has a great variety as well. When I walked in the door I noticed that their jewelry making section already had sale offers, very nice! They even have a section designated to baking art (making fondant and sugar patterns for cakes and cupcakes). Their seasonal holiday assortments are nice as well, for just opening I'd say it is impressive and it was bustling at 10:30 on a Sunday--what a great sign! read more

Went here for the first time for a crochet class. The first instructor never showed, but the manager called a girl in call so after we waited 30 minutes into our class she showed up. I wish I could remember her name because she was so nice and let us stay longer because our class started late. I have never crocheted a day in my life, but it was fun and challenging. Anything new is hard at first, but I'm determined to make my husband a scarf that is perfect. This place was pretty much a mess for me. I came in looking to find two specific things. I walked out with one of them and a chip on my shoulder. Here's why: - Crappy parking lot. It's crazy here. - Confusing layout. It's two levels, the aisles aren't all labeled well. It would be nice if there was a map at the front of the store. - No employees to help out found ANYWHERE. I used to waste, err, spend a lot of time and money at Michaels, whipping up crafty projects with my kids. Years have passed, and I tend to spend my time and money on other things, like tuition! So, I was really impressed by the upgrades that have occurred at Michaels. The store was bright, well-laid out, and had plenty of everything. I was searching for frames and forgot that gosh-darn coupon that I see every Sunday in the paper. Luckily for me, many frames were on sale, and I had several choices in the right price points. I still think the don't-but-it-unless-it's-on-sale-because-it-will-be-on-sale-soon rule applies; I just had brilliant timing. The parking is horrible, too, but I usually just park on the side of the building by the running store so it's easier to get in and out. This location rarely has any of the items I'm looking for, and the staff is never helpful. I've been to this location three times during the past two weeks on errands for a family member. On all three occasions I experienced less than stellar customer service. By less than stellar I actually mean very disappointing. During my first trip, as I was walking in the front door the manager nearly steamrolled me. He would have walked right into me but I jumped out of the way. He was not looking in some other direction, just "pushing through". He didn't say a word. I really didn't know what to make of that but I went ahead and searched the store over for about 15 minutes for a crafting product - embossing powder. I didn't find it. I then walked all around looking for an assistant to help but no luck. (I might have been able to find it if I knew anything about crafting, but I don't. I was on an errand for someone else. I have since learned that embossing powder is very basic and commonly available material for crafters.) I went back to the front of the store and asked one of the cashiers who wasn't ringing anyone up for help finding the product. She had never heard of embossing powder and said she would call someone to help me. Ten minutes later I was still waiting. I asked her if she could call again and the neighboring checker volunteered that the person being paged was "on break". OK, but that would have been nice to know 10 minutes earlier. After a few more minutes we determined that none of the cashiers knew what embossing powder was or whether it was in the store. At that point I asked if the manager might know and the consensus was yes so I asked to speak to him (I think the name given was Jeremey). Apparently the place he was bound for when I entered the store was mega important because after 15 more minutes of waiting the manager had not shown or even returned the calls. Very disappointing. To be as fair as possible, the checkers were all very nice to me. I can't fault their friendliness or willingness to help. Kudos to them for that. The problems seemed to be: (1) the staff is unfamiliar with the merchandise and (2) something weird may be going on with the manager... Not sure, but he did not leave me with an impression of professionalism. Who knows, maybe his car was on fire in the parking lot or something equally distracting had just happened. On my second trip I encountered different staff with exactly the same lack of product knowledge. I was in a hurry this time so I looked around for a short time and left. Before returning a final time I called another Michael's store a few miles further away. Its too far to drive there but I was hoping to find someone who knew about embossing powder. I did! The person who answered my call told me that Michael's definitely stocks embossing powder and described where it was in her store and also which other items were in the general area. I felt sure that I could find it on my next trip. So... Third trip: I looked and looked but no luck. I was able to find an employee quickly this time and asked her for help. She too had never heard of embossing powder but asked someone on her mic. After about 10 minutes of wandering around and trying various locations we found the embossing powder! It was a big $13 jug. I thanked her several times and she left. I was a little disappointed by the price and nearly walked out then and there, but as I looked around a little more I discovered that the entire wall display was embossing powder -- dozens and dozens of varieties and colors! What fun! The saga ended well and i was able to go home with a $3.99 bottle that was exactly right but I probably could have managed this quicker and easier on line without ever leaving home! I'm sure any crafty woman reading this will have realized by now that I am a man and therefore am undeniably stupid, especially in this kind of situation. I think the take-home though, is that if you patronize this store don't expect efficient or knowledgeable help from the staff. read more

When this former Borders store switched to Michaels, I got excited because I thought 2 stories = lots of goodies! In reality, its just your normal Michaels spread out to fit on two floors. Its not very clearly labeled so unless you have been here before, you won't know where everything is and majority of the things I was looking for I found out were on the 2nd floor. The location is good and Brentwood needed something like this to add to their ever growing retail population. I will probably be back and back, and I hope, by then, I have figured out the layout. This is specifically for the framing department. I went in to have them cut a specIfic size mat to replace on a painting project of mine. Nothing more. Woman at the framing department was very condescending and treated me as if i had no idea what I was talking about. She said she couldn't rely on me to give her measurements to cut a mat for me. Told me she would only cut a mat if I gave her the artwork and frame. I didn't have them with me and assured her that I knew exactly what I needed and just needed her to cut the mat for me. You would have thought I had asked her to steal something. We are talking about a $15 custom cut mat at most? I told her I just wanted the mat and had no interest in blaming her of it didnt work. Very simple request. She said no. I said I would take my business elsewhere and then she muttered "Jesus Christ" under hear breath as I walked away.
