We were looking for a new seafood spot for my husband's birthday so my sister recommended Michael's Cafe. From the moment we entered, the experience was stellar. It's not hard to please us but so many restaurants do by forgetting simple customer service. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and she showed us to a huge booth near the bar. Oh and don't get me started about the bar! We aren't drinkers and I almost wanted to sit there instead because it was so large and inviting. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. We ordered the calamari and wings for our appetizer and we really didn't need anything else after that because both were so good. My husband had the crab imperial and didn't absolutely love it. I had the shrimp salad sandwich which also had a crab cake stack on top. Very tasty but I will try something else when we come back (because we will definitely be back). read more

My family stopped in on Sunday without reservations - Bad idea. The front desk staff obviously prefers reservations and treats everyone else as inconveniencing them. After waiting just over an hour to be seated, being told there was only a 35-45 minute wait, we were seated. This is when that informed us that they only service BRUNCH on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Let me just say, this little tid-bit of information would have been wonderful prior to the hour wait. We wanted a light dinner or lunch as it was 2:00 pm. We ended up leaving and getting dinner somewhere else. Very frustrating. We've been here before and do enjoy the dinner menu and ambiance. The manager is very nice and most of the staff as well. So this review is more of a information warning - Don't go on the weekend unless you desire brunch. read more

Greatest experience hands down !!! Kevin our server was spectacular. Recommended a phenomenal pairing with the steak and cake that was completely out of this world. Had brunch here right before the quarantine and neglected to write a review. I ordered the shrimp and grits while my friend ordered the chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious! We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive and the drinks were great each time. I must note that I asked for a specific brand of whiskey for my drink and it looked it was out but I was not to fret because the bartender really went out of his way to get another bottle...and they were pretty busy. If you are looking for crab dip, this is the place to go. I think that their version is the best that I have had in quite a while. It was perfectly spiced and just the right amount of lump crabmeat. I tried the crab cake for my main dish. It was just as good as the crab dip. I really liked the lemon aioli that it was served with. I don't like cole slaw, so I had asparagus instead and the lemon aioli was fabulous on that! For dessert, we had the bread pudding. To be honest, we only ordered it because it was served with Taharka Brothers Honey Graham ice cream. But the bread pudding would have been great, even without the ice cream. read more

To begin, Ashley was a fantastic server. She was friendly and accommodating being as though it was our first time there and we wanted to read through the menu, she recommended dishes and kept on top of our drinks and answered all of our questions! I had the New York strip, it was cooked exactly to my liking and the sides were great as well. My boyfriend had the lobster vodka pasta and he loved that also! Came in today for a quick happy hour (Mommy alone time lol) and was greeted by the bartender Chuck. He was very attentive. I ordered the Maryland mule which was pretty good. It's made with Sagamore Rye which I'm usually not a fan of but my drink was really good. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and calamari and they came out pretty quickly. I went to Michael's Cafe for the first time this past Tuesday for my boyfriend's birthday. We had a reservation for 6:45pm but we arrived around 6pm. Upon entering we were greeted by the host and were immediately taken to our very spacious booth by the bar that was already being reserved for us. We got there in time to enjoy the last bit of their happy hour, which ends at 7pm. We enjoyed the rose spritzer and an order of old bay wings for $1 per wing. The wings were so delicious. They came out hot and very crispy, just how we like them. While waiting for our entrees I noticed the bartender making a very large wine drink which I assumed was sangria and I was right. We ordered a white and red. They came in a large round wine glass. I wish I would've skipped the rose spritzer and just had two glasses of sangria. While it was delicious, I was confused as to why it's not listed on the menu. For dinner my bf had the NY strip steak with mashed potatoes and mixed greens. I had the single crab cake entree with coleslaw and french fries. I'm a fry whore so I've tried many fries in my life time and I can confidently say they have top notch fries. The perfect crispy shoe string fry. Everything came to the table hot and just as we ordered. I'm also a very tough crab cake critic, as crab cakes are in my top 5 favorite foods. Their crab cake is genuine lump crab with minimal filler. It was broiled to perfection and so moist and delicious. It was on the smaller side of crab cakes offered in Baltimore but it was a decent size and a very generous helping of french fries for $23. My bf's NY strip steak was medium well and he seemed to really enjoy it. It came to the table steaming hot and very juicy. When he saw my fries he initially wanted to place an order for some but he started eating his mashed potatoes and realized they were delicious so he changed his mind about the french fries. Not sure what potatoes they're using but they are phenomenal. Also, his steak was market price and came up to be $42. Lastly, I indicated his birthday when placing our reservation on OpenTable. At the end of our dinner our server brought over a very nice sized slice of plain cheesecake with a berry sauce and whipped cream on the side with a birthday candle. My bf doesn't eat cheesecake but he was touched at the thought and the presentation. I typically don't indulge in cheesecake but it was something about the combination of the cake with the berry sauce and whipped cream that made that cake so freaking good! All in all we had two entrees, an appetizer, two happy hour drinks and two regular priced drinks and our bill came to about $120. Not terrible for the ambiance, level of service and quality of food and drink we received. Plus it was a special occasion so it was well worth it. We went to Michael's for a girl's night birthday celebration. We had a great time! Our server, Nellie, was great! She was very helpful with recommendations both with drinks and food. The brussel sprout appetizer was really good! I shared the chateau briand special with a friend. The beef was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was just right. My friend and I drove 55 miles one-way (Aspen Hill, MD to Middle River, MD) just to try this restaurant out. We were greeted by friendly staff members with big smiles who opened up the door for us. We waited for less than three minutes to be seated, despite not having a reservation. When we got to our table, we were greeted by the most kind waitress ever. She went over the menu with us, offered recommendations, and then swiftly took our order and brought us our drinks. My friend and I both ordered the "Steak & Cake," which is a filet, a crab cake, and a side of spinach. I am still trying to watch my (sphere-like) figure, so I also ordered french fries. The food was amazing. The filet was cooked to perfection, and was seasoned just right. The crab cake was larger than I expected, and very filling. Although we were completely full after our meals, we could not resist dessert after hearing the specials. I ended up ordering the cheesecake with berry topping and house-made whipped cream, while my friend ordered the pumpkin cake. Both desserts (yes, I tried them both) were so full of flavor! I do not typically like pumpkin-flavored anything, but I would quite literally drive those 55 miles again just for another BITE of that pumpkin cake. It was the best tasting dessert I have had in months (and that speaks volumes, trust me). Over all, our experience was incredible. Great service, great food, easy parking, clean bathroom (gender neutral, equipped with changing table), reasonably priced drinks and food for their portion sizes, and a warm, intimate atmosphere. Okay here we go. Immediately upon entering I was excited because. The atmosphere was great. The hostess, an older lady with long grey hair, was very frazzled and seemed all over the place. She barely made eye contact and seemed to be irritated with the fact we were there. It was just overall a very weird first impression. The oysters were great. No complaints and beautiful display. My husband enjoyed his burger and no complaints there. I however order the lamb. It was over priced in my opinion. There was soooo much fat on that meat and the Au jus was not very good and too much was put on. This was on top of some sort of rice mush. Would have been a lot better with some mashed potatoes in my opinion. I ate less than half my meal and was disappointed for having to spend $30 on something I barely ate. Well the atmosphere is nice for around the bar. We enjoyed the happy hour. Dinner was ok, two in my party had the steak and cakes but they ran out of fillet minions and replaced them with strip. I had the strip it was cooked to my request. The side was a small salad. I was not happy with prices, I think it was was overpriced for dinner. Been here quite a few times and it's always been great or just ok. Completely understandable tho while a restaurant is just opening & working out the kinks. But now, it's been awhile & I still have a major issue with their cocktails. For one, the standard Old Fashion (super popular drink right now) is absolutely delicious, but unfortunately you only have 2-3 sips to enjoy it in for a pricey $14. Other drinks we've ordered recently were double Sambucas on the rocks & double Jameson Irish Coffees with our desserts. We were certainly charged for the doubles, but the amount of liquor in them wasn't any different than what you'd normally get for a single - except maybe a splash more. At this point, we felt the need to politely bring it up to the server just to make sure there wasn't a miscommunication & we did in fact get what we ordered; to which she did let us know they charge you double for a 2oz pour even though a standard shot is 1.5oz. Which I think is complete bs & a real shame they're overcharging that much for their cocktails. I should also mention I've been in the restaurant biz for over 20 yrs. as a server, bartender & owner. I'm all about paying extra for what you get, but when you don't even get what you're being charged for, it's just complete bs. read more

Recently visited with a co-worker. I had a salad with chicken (blackened), he had a salad with blackened shrimp. He had iced tea, I had water.... bill came to 57 dollars with 18% tip. Overprices and overrated. Nickel and dimed- salads start with NO protein (overpriced adder for portion) and they charge for adding the blackened spices...... Visited Michaels Cafe last night. My mom took us for my 50th bday. We were greeted at the door by the manager who then sat us right away at the table which we reserved in the bar area. We had several happy hour appetizers including the raw oysters. Then for dinner we had the soft crab sandwich, it was delish. I was treated to a cheesecake for dessert. Our server Alex was great, very friendly and attentive. The managers Josh and Jeff could not have been any nicer. They even took their picture with my mom. We loved everything about last night.
