Cream of crab with added Old Bay
    Karley B.

Remember when this was Crab Quarters? I miss that giant crab on the building. I wonder what happened to that thing... I quite liked the hardwood floors (why do restaurants ever install carpet? It gets so dingy), and how far the tables were spaced from each other. The fireplace below the HUUUUGE television is relaxing. And I bet it would be sweet to watch sports at this restaurant, if that's your thing. The boyfriend did not like the slightly crafty, slightly nautical decor but I feel like it fit with the whole "family restaurant" thing. I grew up in the area. My parents had a gigantic painting of a sea captain above our mantle when we were growing up. So the restaurant hit those nostalgia notes for me. The cream of crab soup is fine. Not as good as Richardson's, a million times better than By the Docks. My mom had a barbecue chicken and shrimp quesadilla and I don't think she liked it. It was cut into four pieces. She only ate one. She insisted that we take a piece home with the leftover half of my cheese steak sub (like Steak Ums, with maybe 15 strips of grilled onion and two pieces of American cheese melted on top. Would not recommend). Fries were good. Unseasoned, unsalted, but that makes sense. Some people are salt-free, and good for them - but I need my fries salted. The boyfriend had the Rodeo burger, which has onion rings, cheddar cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. He liked it A LOT. But he hated the pickle. The popcorn shrimp were perfectly acceptable. Overall a fine experience, but we will not return. Nothing on the menu sang out "Next time you need to get...." like the Riverwatch. Alice, honey, you need to step up your game.

Made my reservation for party of one at By the Docks When I arrived. I was greeted quickly (bless her) and explained I was a little late. While I was waiting for her to see me she received a call and made a comment about "who books a reservation 15 minutes ahead of time". (Well that's actually what I did.) and when I said that's actually what I did. The hostess looked at me and said "well you don't count" smiled and then she then sat me. My server, Leslie greeted me. I ordered my food (crab and lobster egg rolls), and a glass of the house white wine (a yummy Pinot Grigio) to pair perfectly with my seafood egg rolls. The interior was bright and open with bronze and wood accents The wine came out about five minutes later and then I proceeded to wait for roughly 30 minutes for the appetizer that was meant to be my entrée to come out. the appetizer came out hot and fresh, chock full of lump crab and lobster laying on a bed of the Asian slaw.. shoo mercy, everything tasted great, but by then my wine was empty. Parched lil bit. I opted for the strawberry cheesecake. (Shout out to Yia Yia's bakery, y'all know your desserts!) People, It was the size of my head and creamy and light and the tartness of the strawberries was on point. I mean it was so good, it'd make ya push your granny in the creek, good! When Leslie brought out my check she let me know they comped the wine for the delay on the egg rolls.. Well shucks... that, y'all, was great service recovery. Turned my first experience here from meh to well, bless em... Hot tasty food, (even a delay can happen on the best of nights), and a yummy dessert.. By the Docks.... We will be back!

This had the feel of a local bar and grill frequented by locals, the atmosphere was welcoming as well as the immediate friendly approach by the lady serving everyone and doing it efficiently, Cyndi is a good person for this job. My husband ordered the Italian cold-cut sub, no hots, it was fresh and a generous amount of meats.I ordered the Clam Strips and Fresh Cut French Fries. The clam strips came out first and were hot and tender, the next wave of food was the rest of the order. The french cut fries were perfect and lots of them, added malt vinegar and yum. Oh so good. Serving portions were generous and had to take home the remainder of my order. A good location, easy to find and plenty of free parking. Reasonable prices.

She should definitely call in sick when the full moon approaches. My rating is -20. Do yourself a favor and go else where. It's the worst of the worst.

She wanted Italian, but her fav place in the Carroll Island shopping center was closed for vacation, so we went next door to get Mexican. Shhh... don't tell her but I wanted to go here all along, but I know that her only experience with "Mexican" food is Taco Bell and how she thought (yes, in the past tense) that she didn't like Mexican food. Yay for changing minds!! As we sat in the restaurant, many people came in claiming that they had come to the shopping center to get Italian, but had ended up at El Piquin and I celebrate this. I hope this place wins over tons of customers and sticks around for a while because THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!!! You should also probably know they have an alcohol permit and have beer and margaritas. We didn't order any because we didn't want to make my mom uncomfortable, considering the boyfriend was driving and we had gotten a flat tire the day before so we were driving around on a donut and she was already kinda nervous about that... but the music is bumping, the food is perfect and I bet a margarita or two after the sun goes down would be just the thing... hashtag futuregoals... Anyway... Chips and salsa come to your table gratis. Delicious. Everything you want. My mom and I both got carnitas street tacos and WOWZERS. The meat is perfectly seasoned and diced. The tacos come with a half grilled jalapeno (I took my mom's cuz they were spicy and I think she would have never recovered - hee), a grilled spring onion, limes, raw radish and cucumber - your choice of flour or corn tortillas. If you need cheese, sour cream and pico de gallo, it's gonna cost you extra - but you've been trained that sour cream costs more. The boyfriend had Bistec Encebollado ($15.50) - Steak & sauteed onions, served with rice, re-fried black beans, cheese & 2 fried eggs. Served with our house salad & 4 corn tortillas. He was pretty thrilled with it, but the chicken wings (appetizer) didn't hit quite right. He doesn't know why. He said it wasn't the sauce. The Boyfriend and I will definitely be ordering from here again. But I think the real victory was that my 70-year-old mother ate just as much of her meal as I did. SHE TOTALLY LOVED IT!!! I count that as a win.
