I was passing through the area and I stumbled on this local place. I was PLEASANTLY surprised! The reviews were already good, so I figured the food would be nice. My expectations, while high, were still exceeded by the staff, food, and overall dining experience. The hostess was quick and cordial. The dining room seemed to be bustling, but we were seated promptly. Our server (HUGE shout out to Brad) was fast and communicative. I ordered a lychee mock tail and they didn't have the puree to make it. He let me know when there was a delay, AND THEN came back as soon as he knew they didn't have the main ingredient. The guy could teach a class on customer service. The Cereal French Toast I had was perfect: great texture and flavorfully sweet (as opposed to overpoweringly sweet). I got the cheese kielbasa to accompany my meal and it had the most delightful crust, encasing that juicy, slightly salty punch the sausage is typically known for. Everything was good, but the sausage was a standout on my plate. My companion had the Seafood Club and said it was creamy and flavourful. I got a sample of the truffle fries from their plate and they squarely hit the mark for deliciousness and texture. The only reason I didn't give them a perfect score was because my mock tail was missing. Either way, I will DEFINITELY be back and I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a nice eatery on a sunny summer Sunday afternoon. read more

Had Sunday brunch with hubby while staying at the hotel across the street. We made a reservation on Open Table, and were seated immediately upon arrival. Atmosphere was fresh and modern. Service was good and prompt. We ordered two Watermelon Crush beverages, which were lightly spirited, tasty and refreshing. The shrimp and grits were perfection -- a bowl full of creamy grits with a healthy serving of shrimp topped with fresh corn, bacon and green onion relish -- serious FLAVOR! My man and I ate here recently and it wasn't what we expected. First, it's a very beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous bar and tall ceilings. Yet, we can't say we enjoyed our meal that much. The deviled eggs were really bland. Then the hot turkey my man ordered he said also had no flavor. Then my ahi tuna wrap came out and it also lacked sooo much flavor. It's a shame because the food was very fresh and with just a hint of seasoning and sauce the meal would've been perfect. As far as our Server, she was lovely and very formal. I visited Michael's Cafe today for the first Times . I went during lunch hours and they had a 45 minute wait. The hostess gave us an option to sit at the bar to eat so we did. The restaurant just turned one month old so I got to experience everything brand new. I ordered the crab dip for my appetizer and I must say it is now ranked as my top three favorite crab dip. It's tasty with a kick. For my entree I ordered the cheeseshank and it was tender and juicy. My servers were Melissa and Greg and they were absolutely phenomenal. They were friendly and very attentive. Chase did a great job on making sure our area stayed clean. I am looking forward to returning again soon! read more

We stopped in for lunch on a weekday and it was busy with graduation parties, but we were able to find a seat at the bar and order a few beers and lunch. The Coconut Shrimp was very good with a Thai dipping sauce. The Pitbull Sandwich was huge. I actually own a Pit Bull and she could have devoured that sandwich, loaded with pit beef, smoked cheese, tiger sauce, and even kielbasa (which deserved it's own sandwich) on a brioche bun (my favorite!). We had a nice chat with Mickey at the bar and really enjoyed our lunch and beers. The service was fantastic, considering they were attending to so many large groups within the restaurant and out on their patio. We usually patron the Michael's Cafe location in Timonium so it was nice to see this location is succeeding since opening a few years ago. First off we have enjoyed coming to Michael,s Cafe for a while now. Great menu with well thought out food. On our visit today we were surprised at the lack luster service. We were a party of 3 and sat for about 5 minutes before our waitress arrived to the table. She was friendly but that was it. We don't mind a leisurely pace but this was not normal. She had to come back and ask us what appetizer we ordered. This added more time to an already slow afternoon. The food was great. I was going to reflect the lack of service in her tip. Nothing crazy but not my normal %. I was surprised to find an auto grat of 20% on the bill. This explains her lack of urgency. If it's already there then what's the point in pushing yourself. I'm a big fan of the restaurant and will definitely be back but I will absolutely request not to have this server. If anyone needs to know, we were at a high top in the bar area at 1PM on a Sunday. read more

Came here for brunch on a lovely Saturday and got to eat outside, which is surprising in late November but the weather was nice and they have a heated patio. Our server was excellent - attentive, patient, friendly, and personable. I got the 7 oz bavette (flank) steak with over medium eggs. The steak was melt in your mouth tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare as I requested. The egg yolks were the perfect balance of mostly cooked yet still runny. I frequent Michaels Cafe often more so the other location. However I got there around 1. Chuck was the server. He was extremely attentive. Kept checking to see if we needed anything. We had 3 shots of casamigos each, oysters, Buffalo style wings(not pictured) and a salmon apple salad(not pictured) on Chucks tab, everything was good. Wings could've been fried a little harder but they were still good! Chuck mentioned he was leaving so we closed out the tab spent maybe $180. We stayed until HH which we had no idea, this was around 3pm and we had a new server (who wasn't that attentive) I can't recall his name, we then ordered Brussels sprouts, more wings(old bay) not pictured however they sent us buffalo wings again. The sprouts had so much potential however I was disappointed, they we're fried too hard you could taste the burntness. The dressing and crumbles was the added touch but I just couldn't get over the burnt flavor. I will try them again, I think and tell them light on the fried because I really love Brussels sprouts! read more

Love both Michael's Cafe locations. First of all they are family owned businesses. Always good to support local small business owners. The Lobstah Roll is my wife's favorite. Their shrimp salad is amazing. My personal favorite is the Rockfish Nicholas. We live closer to White marsh so we eat there more often, But the Timonium Location is the original. You can't go wrong at either spot. read more

Honestly I've been here maybe 3x for dinner and yesterday was my first brunch @ Michael's...The server was pleasant, but the kitchen needs work. 12pm reservation and we didn't get to order until almost 12:30..The food took maybe another 35 mins to come.. I know that happens with a brunch rush..OK, but what really upset me was that my father ordered pork sausage and I ordered Turkey.. the server brought out the sausage and didn't know which was pork or turkey, but expect us to eat lmao.. I haven't had pork in 15 yrs so I asked to confirm I had turkey so I wouldn't get sick. She came back with an entire different looking sausage and I'm so glad I asked her to confirm w/the chef. They chose to remove it from the bill bc of the confusion. The grapefruit crush was good and the crab cake Benedict was flavorful. They really need to add actual hot sauce to their condiments list - Tabasco doesn't cut it. I will probably be back. They have a good variety of items to try. read more

I've lived in White Marsh for years and saw this place being constructed, vowing to visit. Well, finally I did this past week and was pleasantly surprised. I say that because I made a carry out order a week prior and I was very disappointed. I ordered the cream of crab soup and a wedge salad and both were not good. I decided to try again but dining in this time and it was a much better experience. Maybe the cream of crab soup recipe could be tweaked, it was very blah so I didn't order that again. When I dined in for lunch I had the shrimp salad, chicken salad combo with deviled eggs and it was tasty. The bartender was very friendly, attentive and skilled. Made a reservation for 14 people for a team dinner. Easy to make a reservation but had to put down a deposit of $20 per person. Also 20% tax was going to be charged on the bill and they would not be able to split the check but would be able to take multiple payments. On the day of there, my party was initially seated at two separate tables but they quickly rectified it and made it one long table. Ordering was easy and the server was attentive. Stopped by here for brunch one Saturday. The decor on the inside is very very upscale. Whoever designed the place did a phenomenal job. We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess and our waitress was also friendly and very knowledgeable of the items on the menu. I went with the shrimp and grits, because I love shrimp and grits lol. I have nothing bad to say, the food was very good. One pet peeve of mines is the shell over the tail of shrimps in the dish. Like just cut that part off before you put the shrimp in the bowl. Like I said just a pet peeve of mines. Other than that the dish was very good, the shrimp were cooked well, the grits were creamy and I liked the addition of the corn in the dish. Terrible Service!!! Let's start by saying that I selected Michael's Cafe based on the food reviews. I had high hopes for this restaurant because it was as special occasion and I wanted everything to be perfect for my man's special day. Unfortunately, we never had an opportunity to experience the food to leave a review. I was excited because I thought I found a hidden gem, somewhere nice to take him for his birthday. The staff was rude and not very accommodating from the moment we walked through the door. Upon arrival to the hostess stand, we noticed they had outdoor seating and figured that it would really be nice if we could sit in the heated patio section. We had reservations and I let the host know that we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, again I was excited. We asked the host if we could take a look to see if it was warm enough for us to sit out there. Her reaction was a shrug of the shoulders and her response at the same time was "if you want to". Now what kind of response is that!! We ignored that response and headed towards the patio section, found that it was a little too cold to sit without the heaters on. We then asked if there were any booths available. This is where things went downhill. Keep in mind there was hardly anyone in the restaurant at the time. Which is why we requested a booth. Now, for those of you that don't know and to give a little description of this restaurant, there are two sides, a fine dining side (not Ruth Chris fine) and a bar side (similar to Friday's). We were not aware of the differences. Nevertheless, the host took us to the Bar side (Friday's). We were both dressed nicely, and she sat us on the side where there were families with children (nothing against the kiddos), but we were trying to have a nice meal in a nice setting. Not in a bar setting, we could've gone to Friday's if we wanted that type of setting. We never had a chance to let her know that we did not want to sit where she sat us because she ran off so quick. Once the waitress arrived at our table (she was very nice), we nicely asked if we could get a booth on the other side of the restaurant. She finally moved us back to the other side, but not to a booth, which at this point we were ok with. Now here comes our waiter, the rude waiter. Unfortunately, I do not have names. The waiter approached our table and asked if we wanted anything to drink, we both asked for water, I asked for a bowl of lemons on the side. His response was "A bowl of lemons", I replied "a bowl with a couple lemons for my water please", he walked away, no response, just walked away. When he returned, he placed our water on the table, with the lemon on the side of both of our glasses. Not what I asked for, but again I am trying to enjoy his birthday and not allow anything else to disturb us. At this point we are looking at the menu, he comes back and ask, "ya'll ready yet". Never once did this "waiter" ask or make any suggestions, but again, I am trying to enjoy this day. He came back once again and asked again "ya'll ready yet", at this point my response was "we have never been here, and we were"... (he walked away). Very unprofessional and rude!!! What I was about to tell him was that we have never been here before and did he have any suggestions. He never gave me the opportunity to finish my question. In most restaurants the waiter will ask the question, "have you ever dined with us before". That was definitely not what we received from this waiter. It was unbelievable, the rudeness, the lack of customer service from beginning to end. We had enough, we decided that we would not dare patronize a business with such rude employees. We got up and left. I was initially worried that we would not find another restaurant without a long wait, but we did, we went to a nearby establishment and received immaculate service and the food was delicious. I might add that I shared our experience with the waitress at the new restaurant and she stated that she experienced the same issue with the service and the food at Michael's Cafe. I would give a zero if I could, staff attitude and good customer service is everything and because of my experience I would NOT recommend Michael's Cafe if you're looking for a nice restaurant with good service. read more

I just went to Michael's Cafe and was extremely disappointed. I spent over 75 dollars for my food and it was horrible. I ordered fish and chips(the fish was greasy and was mostly batter barely any fish. Not going to complain on thr French fries but they sat my greasy fish right on top of French fries. I requested mustard which it was not in my bag. I ordered the salmon for my wife. The salmon had no flavor and was over cooked ( I asked for well done but it was beyond that) The mash potatoes stay like that were instant potatoes. I will never use this place again. P.S. you got my money this time won't happen again. I feel like I should get a full refund because how bad my food was. The one thing I will say is that the hostess was very pleasant. read more

Absolute waist of time. The service here is always slow. Tonight was ridiculous. Thanks for the 30 minutes I will never get back. Someone took my drink order and gave me a menu. I ordered a Coke and was then ignored. The servers are standing around and talking about sports. Looking right at me while I'm trying to get someone attention. It's after 9pm, and I'm now eating dinner...or at least trying to. Talking about sports right in front of me like it's high school. Then I finally get the closest server to me and he says "I'm training" and walks away. Really?!?! They charge me for the coke I took one sip of on top of it. Bit of a drive for me but worth it. Went for brunch and literally ran out of space on the table bc we wanted to try everything. I had the steak and eggs with home fries, lemon ricotta pancakes, split crab soup (Maryland and cream of crab soup) and a watermelon crush. Everything was bomb. If i had one complaint it would be that my pancake edges weren't crispy the way that i like them. Also had an order of Buffalo wings. My family went there for Brunch yesterday to celebrate my wife's birthday. Five of us had five diffrent dishes. Each was PERFECT! Fried Chicken on waffle. Bavette Steak (whatever that is) Tuna + Avocado wrap Crab cake And MY magnificent hunk of Rockfish. I am gluten sensitive and am dismayed by the general lack of not only GF offerings in local restaurants but, worse, lack of KNOWLEDGE about food sensitivities in general. THIS restaurant recognizes a need. Although the GF offerings are sparce. If you look at their menu, here and there you WILL see a minuscule "gf." My rockfish was perfectly cooked although I am not sure how it was cooked. I was given choice of pan roasted (i.e. FRIED), broiled or blackened and maybe roasted. I chose BROILED, but it appeared to be pan seared on all sides. Didn't matter since it was cooked absolutely PERFECTLY. Unfortunately, gf often means NO seasoning because chefs are, rightfully, reluctant. But the fish was so fresh and so well prepared a little salt was adequate seasoning! The wait staff was wonderful and the service was superb! One "complaint." The chair I was say on was quite obviously BROKEN and should have been repaired or trashed a long time ago. I was VERY LUCKY that it did not collapse under me. At 75, that could've been FATAL and my survivors would've been eating free for years without me! read more

UPDATE: Follow up to my second visit now. The hostess is very intimidating, it's the older lady with white hair. We are in middle river and this is not a 5 star restaurant! Moving on, I got the cheesesteak and it taste like a pulled pork sandwich, I wasn't impressed sadly. Also they don't have sweet potatoes fries, only regular. In regards to their menu, they're slowly adding new menu items. They're very busy in the evenings, so don't plan to visit without a reservation or the white hair lady will reject you. First visit.... So I went here with some friends and they still had the limited menu...they've been open for a few months now, can we have a full menu? One of the ladies are allergic to shellfish and that was almost the entire menu besides a burger. Ok so moving forward, the service was great, I think everyone was very nice. Drinks are a little pricey but we left due to the menu. This is a somewhat over priced cafe with no enough options. I'd rather go to Thai rainbow and bring in my own bottle which would be the same price as one drink at Michael's cafe. read more

Came back for brunch & now I need to upgrade my review to 5 stars! Up until now, I had only eaten from Michael's Cafe through carry-out. I finally got to dine inside and wow! First, it's beautiful, and way larger than I expected. Service was great. Food was incredible - as always. We started with the Bacon Trifecta. Good amount of bacon for the cost and all three flavors were delicious. My chicken & waffles were great. Love the pecan butter that came with it. The Hungry Man was classic, and I really enjoyed the breakfast sausage we chose with it. Previously I thought this place was too pricey, but the quality of the food is worth every penny. I've found my new favorite brunch spot! Gotta come back for happy hour at that beautiful bar area sometime. read more
