Pros: They have a huge selection of arts and crafts supplies for pretty much anything you are looking for Cons: You are paying a huge premium to buy on-demand versus ordering online and waiting for delivery. Probably the biggest con is the in-store customer service. Let's talk about rude customer service. The store manager openly mocked a woman who did not understand how to use the self-check out kiosks (Note: there are NO cashiers to personally help you check-out). When the woman could not figure it out and said "forget it" and walked out. The manage loudly commented that "it isn't THAT hard." It had been months since I last shopped there in person. I do not know if I will return because they don't seem to value in-store customers. If they don't start treating customers better, they will be like so many other brick and mortar stores...out of business. read more

This is the closest store located about 10 minutes from my work. They have a great selection of materials I can use in the classroom. It's a plus to have a teacher discount. Michaels is about the only accessible craft store around, and if there were others, I would definitely choose another place. I prefer to browse for items and see them before buying instead of online shopping, so I don't have much of a choice about where to go. On the positive side, they seem to have most items you will need for a craft project. The store is always neat, clean, and well-organized. However, trying to find something without wandering through all the aisles is challenging. There are not many associates around to ask for help, so you have no choice but to wander around. This location is smaller than others in the area, so it's not too bad. You have to go up to the cashier with any questions, but there are usually only a couple of registers open, and the lines are long, so that is not much help. They also recently added self-help registers, which means there are even fewer cashiers available if you need to return something. I still go here, but it would be great if there were more associates to help with questions or to check out. read more

I used this Michaels framing location (Homestead Rd, Cupertino) and was very unhappy with the service. I placed the order online, brought in my items for framing, was told by the rep that the order would be completed in 3 wks, but likely earlier and they would call me when ready (this was even written on the receipt). No call back when the order was completed, no apology when I asked about this, and the framing rep said that she didn't know how I wanted the item mounted since there were no details on the order (hmm - maybe a phone call would have been logical?), so she just took a guess. I asked about returns and she had no idea, after all, this was an online order - not her responsibility. I asked if they were a franchise, nope - just not her problem. I sensed that she was good at her job, but overworked and the online store was just an annoyance for her. She did offer to reframe the item but after hearing about how backed up she was, there was no way that I was leaving this item for another 3 wks and taking on the responsibility to keep track of when it would be completed. I will be returning the frame as soon as possible through the online site and will not be returning to this Michaels location. I have to decide whether to use Michaels framing at all for future items. They could have done the following, and I would be more understanding: 1. set expectations when I dropped off the order that they were backed up 2. call me when they weren't sure how I wanted the item framed since the detail was not in the online order 3. apologize for not calling when order was ready 4. understand the online store better so that I didn't feel like I am working with 2 different entities, after all, that is not how the online store represents the brick and mortar locations read more

I came to get some balloons since they advertised it in their window. They're a bit clueless about balloons. The lady didn't tie off the small balloons (just tied a string around the bottom which barely kept them closed). The balloons deflated by the time I got home and they were $3 each. Only the Mylar balloons survived since they're foolproof. She did warn me that the small balloons won't last long because their "helium is not good", but the real reason is not tying them off with a knot at the bottom. If anyone from the store is reading this -- please tie a knot at the bottom of the small balloons in the future! read more

If there is anything that makes retail shops look attractive, it's how tidy and organized the departments are - a slight adjacency to customer service . Michaels in Cupertino is organized and so far - has commendable customer service (as long as they're smiling when they interact, I'm sold). The staff at the register and on the floor are helpful even during the holidays. Every shelf has a variety of great selection (even new to the arts and crafts items are here!). I've been coming to this store for years, but not often, and there are the occasional customers with their unruly kids knocking over merchandise or just running around the store like a playground - I know this is something the staff cannot control but this creates an inconvenience to other customers as these little people have no clue about good behavior. One time I had to give my "I'll eat you alive" look to a little girl who pushed against my cart while she was running. I think that kid will never leave home after that. I digress. The framing department seems to be the busiest area in the store. Each time I had to go use their bathroom (clean), there were always customers waiting to be helped. I take that as a good sign? There are always great sales going on with their yarn and beading supplies. I'm happy. Their clearance items are of great value and if you get in during the right time, you'll even get to purchase $10 wholesale boxes from previous seasons. I shop here, usually at random...not a great idea. Parking is easy and the strip is a one-stop-shop with the Safeway and Ulta next door. Even a RDFL (Ross Dress For Less). This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I came in to return an air balloon inflator I purchased only two days ago because it didn't work for the smaller balloons I needed. Instead of helping me, the employee was extremely rude, refused to return my box, and even accused me of breaking the item -- a completely false and insulting claim. To make matters worse, he called his manager, who was just as unprofessional. She insisted that because I purchased the item at a different location, I had to take it back there to return it. I have never heard of such a policy, and no store I've ever dealt with has required returns to be made at the exact same location. I bought the item near my workplace and tried to return it near my home -- something that should be simple and reasonable. The way I was treated was unacceptable. Instead of supporting a customer with a legitimate concern, both the employee and manager chose to be dismissive, accusatory, and disrespectful. This experience has completely changed my view of this company, and I will not be returning to this store again. read more

I came in at 12:30pm on Tuesday 8/20, and the two women working were standing around doing nothing and being incredibly rude. I politely asked about my pickup order, as I came a bit early. The staff member was angry and rude, I had to ask "did I say something to offend you?". She said "no, it's not instant!" When I came back to pay, the two women were standing at the register bad mouthing another customer who had simply asked them for help. So many cool things you can get here, so do not do like me and forget that coupon at home or let it hide behind that hole in your purse linen...get those coupons a real exit and bring home goodies to create, donate or just mindful-meditate while drawing or painting or putting colorful stickers in your neighbor's door. I was looking to spend the succulent gift certificate I got for my birthday buying a lot of little things to stretch the gift as much as I could but this time decided that I should splurge and get something I would not normally get, like expensive metal box of 'mobile watercolors' for trips and for lunch breaks at work when I feel inspired to paint. I found the brand of Jane Davenport and spent long time at the store checking all her items out. Got a pretty box of 'precious pearls' that for sure will last a long time. Came here for a few picture frames and they were having a buy one get one free sale, so that was pretty cool. I also needed a black mat cut and they did that with no fuss or muss. We've been coming to this Michael's for years to get our stuff for art and craft at home. The store has become from good to bad over time. Just last Sunday we were at the checkout counter and the cashier kept insisting we give her our phone number before she can honor our discount coupon. I said I don't want to give out my phone number and I no longer want to use the coupon. But she did not let up so I told her to let go and let the line of waiting customers moving. That's when it finally stopped. There's something fishy about businesses wanting to obtain customers phone numbers. In general, I don't frivolously give it out unless it's absolutely necessary. This Very Bad experience was at the Michael's in Cupertino). Very Hurtful and So Bad in the custom framing department. As I started walking from a far distance to the custom framing desk there was a Caucasian woman there/the worker (Katie) who was doing Nothing. An Asian woman was doing her own thing with a picture that she was working on who had full access to behind the desk and back office etc...there was no one else there but me. **I had to beg to get any answers**and could not get any help. I did not say anything nor made any waves. Another Asian lady walks up with no appointment also and I explained to this lady that this framer said that she could not help me & that she was helping the lady that "was doing her own thing". I told her to try another Michael's or make an appointment. Katie the framer began helping this lady with no appointment. And then kept making smart remarks. I kept my cool but should have called the police. The manager there said that she would clear this up but I never received a response. Katie, the manager at Custom Framing provided me with her excellent and friendly service at Michaels. She (and Emily) were very generous with their time accommodating me and my requirements in terms of matting and framing of my art within a tight budget. Katie worked hard beyond my expectations to meet my tight art delivery deadline for an art exhibit in Los Angeles and even took care of my shipping worries. I have a love/hate relationship with Michaels. I always feel the stores are overly decorated with poor signage and minimal staff and always leave feeling I spent too much time combing through randomly put together isles for the simple things I wanted. Michaels are clusters, and are even worse when they end up with a high population of children in them - which this one seemed to suffer from. I liked this store, but again had to ask someone twice where simple things like a glue gun, or jewelry items were. Never finding the buttons I finally gave up - resistant to asking yet again where something was. Thankfully I know now to check the Michaels website for any coupons, and saved $15 just by pulling out my phone. But they don't tend to advertise any large sales - which could be a good thing if you value your sanity. I got everything but the buttons I needed this trip, so 4 stars, even though I really wish I could go anywhere else to find these things. Anywhere. read more

I love Michaels! But I'm not a craft person at all, so we have a fairly distant relationship: I go in with high hopes, buy a bunch of supplies with a plan in mind, butcher my project, then avoid the store until I forget how bad I am at crafting. Wash, rinse, repeat. It's worked well for us over the years. But today I had an epiphany about my Halloween costume, or lack thereof. I went with one item in mind: white gloves. Unfortunately, the kind ladies at Michael's did not have any- just black, green, orange, and pink, and only in kid sizes. But they were super helpful about where to look and different options for my outfit or other stores to try. And as always, their clearance section really got me. My cats now have Halloween costumes- why, you ask? Well, who can resist humiliating their pet for the low, low price of $3? I'm not mean, I pick up their crap and spend a considerable amount on vet fees and apartment deposits. I deserve a little joy. Michaels is already decking their halls with holiday decor as well, most of which is oddly already on sale. Their sales are what really get me- the clearance section should have a separate entrance, with a DO NOT LET THIS PERSON ENTER sign featuring my face. Because I'll go nuts there- holiday cards for under $2 a pack? Monogrammed notepads to gift to my teacher friends? Various candies and trinkets galore? They have more stock than most, but in order to get everything I needed I still had to go to a combination of Michaels between Sunnyvale and Redwood City. I took some Wilton cake decorating classes at this Michaels. Such a bargain compared to most cake decorating classes and very high quality. I learned so many techniques in this class. My instructor Daisy was amazing and so sweet, I recommend her to anyone. The class consists of four sessions (2 hours each). All together the classes only cost $17.50 and I spent an additional $50 on supplies for the entire four sessions. Check out Michael's website for classes in your area! I am totally blown away by the cashier/ customer support sales associate working today. He is like a human computer who is capable of directing every customer who walks in there to the exact aisle on the items that he/she is looking for, no matter how big or small it is. I came in for a plastic pipette and he points me to the right aisle saving me tons of time having to search through the entire store. It appears that other customers felt the same and everyone was able to quickly find what he/she was looking for and close the sale. Kudos! I love it when folks are able to save me time. Came here for a slime activity that was supposed to take place today between 1-3. I walked in with my daughter and they told me that there is no activity. They don't have staff available for that. My daughter was super disappointed. This isn't the first time this happens - for camps and other kids activities. The store attitude is always "in sorry but there is nothing I can do". It's a constant reminded that this store is not trustworthy. I come here when I don't have a choice. So many other online options ... I had the pleasure of running into Sasi (I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling) on Saturday, December 5, 2015. She greeted me with a smile as I entered the store, and on the way out, she was my checker. I was amazed at how busy Michael's was (I only go here a couple times a year, and I always forget about the holiday traffic). Sasi was speedily checking out each customer, while answering questions for other coworkers, some shouting down the registers, others on the floor, walking over to get answers for questions, all while politely taking care of the customer in front of her. When it got to me, she didn't miss a beat! She was efficient, engaged in delightful small talk, and got me on my way to starting a crafting project for my daughter. Except....the staff here went above and beyond to help me out There was a picture frame that was buy one get one free. Only problem is there is only one left. However, if you want to get something framed, go to the one in Milpitas. I was there with two canvas posters and this chubby blonde girl with glasses was being lazy. She took one look at my posters I bought from Madrid and quoted me a ridiculous price with no discount. I had the coupon in my pocket and there were signs everywhere, but she didn't count it in the price she quoted b/c she is lazy and just wanted to go home - she should just go work for the government.
