I love world market! I usually come here a couple times a year, and always around the holidays to see all the fun home decor goodies and holiday stuff they have. I came before Halloween and then again a couple weeks after and was able to snag some good deals on the leftover Halloween decor, while also stocking up for Christmas. The food section has such a fun variety of items from around the world. I always like looking at the different chips, sauces, and Asian noodles they have. I love Cost Plus. It sells unique and attractive products (the furniture comes to mind). It's a great place to go for a quick set of wine glasses, candles, towels, wine, or a quick low-cost quality gift. What's going to be its downfall is the service. It's gotten worse. Employees used to take the time to wrap glasses in paper, and carefully place them in a bag. I bought some wine glasses the other day, and the cashier didn't bother. He said "Do you need a bag?" I think it was obvious. A bit stunned (and annoyed), I declined, grabbed my glasses and walked out. read more

My latest shopping experience at World Market was actually my first visit to the West SJ location. I stopped by to return a few items. They had accidentally overcharged me for a pack of cookies at a different location. Karen helped me out at the register and she was such a delight to talk to! She apologized for the inconvenience and got me a refund right away. I also had an online pick up and she helped me with that. A friend and I decided to stay a bit longer to browse the store. They have so many cool snacks from all over the world! Lots of advent calendars and ornaments right now for the holidays. I ended up buying Kinder wafer chocolates, the Happy Hippo variety, and omg those were amazing! Definitely not as sweet as the Mars bar I picked up. Used to love those chocolate bars back in elementary school but the caramel is too much now. I found some Sriracha mini chocolate bars to give away, in white or dark chocolate. I love how you can create a little gift basket with mini bottles and jars of hot sauce, truffle sauce, honey, jam, nuts, spices, plus bags of jerky, popcorn, you name it! Check out the walls of worldly teas, and flavored coffee syrups from Torani, Monin, etc. They also have furniture, rugs, kitchenware, home goods like that. Karen was my check out person again and she joked she'd see us back in twenty minutes hehe. Check out this place when it's not so busy to take full advantage of what the store has to offer. I love to come here for Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. It's a good place to look for Christmas tree ornaments. The store is full of unique items from around the world. Don't expect any service from the employees at this store. The employees are incredibly rude and lazy. They'd rather stand around to chit-chat with each other than to help their customers. I placed an online order for almost 50 glass bottles of pasta sauce the night before. When I arrived to the store the next day to pick up my order, I went straight to the Online Pickup Desk. Stacy at that desk rudely halted me and sent me to regular cashier's line. I told her I had an online order for pick-up, but she insisted that I should stay away from her Online Pickup Desk and wait for her colleague at the regular check stand to help me. Nobody else was in line so I was like...whatever. When the other associate, Jonathan, was ready for me, he asked me if I received an email confirmation that the order was ready for pickup. I told him I didn't, but I placed the order the night before so it should be ready for me since the order had been placed over 12 hours ago. He asked Stacy to look up my order, and she confirmed that the order had not been put together yet. I told her I saw everything I ordered still on the shelf. She told me that it is ok to pick up the items myself, and then she walked away. I got a shopping cart and put my order together myself. Stacey walked by, and she didn't offer any assistance even though it was her job. She even made a comment, "Oh, I didn't know that was pasta sauce!" and walked away. I took all that I ordered to the checkout line. An African American cashier saw me at the line and looked away without any acknowledgement. Nobody else was in line but me, and so I approached Jonathan again. He had the African American gentleman look up my order on the computer. He asked me, "you ordered something online, and it wasn't ready for pickup? So you have a bogus order?" I thought I heard him wrong so I asked him, "what???" Then he said it again, "so you have a bogus order?" I was pretty annoyed at this point, and that was uncalled for. However, I calmly corrected him and said, "I have an online order". He printed out my order, and we went over it together. I told him several times to count the number of bottles of pasta sauce, but he was too lazy to do so. I asked Stacy if they had any boxes since I had just purchased about fifty glass bottles of pasta sauce. She said she had no boxes which is BS. This is a World Market store with thousands of different items on the shelves and she couldn't find me a box??? Those other useless employees standing around too lazy to go to the back to get me a box to help a customer. She also said that I couldn't wheel the cart out of the store. So I asked, "How about big bags?" She said, "we don't have any of those, either." Then the African American employee offered me little plastic bags, and I bagged up everything myself. My experience at this store was incredibly bad. I thought I was on a candid camera reality show or something. If you're mentally unstable, don't shop here. You'll definitely have a meltdown because these mean, lazy, unprofessional employees will try to mess with your head. They all deserve the " Worst Employees Of The Year" Award. read more

As many times it is difficult to really review a standard brewing and mortar business there is always two things I think you all want to know First being if the store was well stocked , and in this case not only was the location well stocked it was well arranged , attention to little things like like complimentary items to enhance purchase. Such as well placed candle holders near the candle Second is the pricing , at this location the pricing seemed to be consistent with store and location ( nothing inexpensive in Silicon Valley folks ) , but what we did not see was any significant sales or coupon offers in store. I just finished shopping at this location and was helped by Andrew. He is an amazing store associate! He greeted me, made sure I was able to use all of my coupons, sanitized his hands and asked before he could touch my phone to check for coupons, and listened to my request to check to make sure I used my rewards. He also asked if I wanted my glass bottles bagged in paper bags to reduced possibility of cracking. We went to Marshall's in this strip mall and as we were leaving there were people lined up to go into Cost Plus. I was intrigued, why was there a line.. what did I miss? What do I need to get at Cost Plus that all these people want. So we put our stuff in the car from Marshall's and decided we will go see what was going on. Everybody was inside now and they put this egg hunt advertisement out. So we go in and 2 workers were at the front register and I said excuse me, can you tell me a little about this egg hunt, I've never seen it before. The one lady looked so annoyed and said it's an egg hunt and there's clues. I said ok is there just one? She said the info is on the sign. I said ok.. I'm sorry I've just learned about it. She's all well the info is on the sign, there's a clue.. I don't know I think today is square. She was so annoyed I'm sure by people asking. But a little enthusiasm and a smile woulda helped. So I saw this one lady and she found one. So I asked her a little and she explained the whole thing to me and how many are in this store.. and that u can only find one! I said thank you, you were more help than the worker. I will go back for an egg hunt after watching Tik Tok to explain it better than the employees. Cost Plus World Market is one of those rare shops where there are actually so many interesting things from all around the world to check out. You want special cookies from Europe and Australia? Seasonings from countries across the globe? Too many small stocking stuffers and potential gifts to name?! Well, ladies and gentlemen. This is your one stop shop! Gifts galore. Seriously. From home goods, to kitchenware, to furniture, to food items. This store has it all. I'm impressed by their wide variety of items and offerings. Depending on the item, prices can range from relatively inexpensive to pretty pricey. You need to factor in sourcing costs though. Cost Plus sometimes has clearance sections and markdowns throughout the store. You just have to look out for the price tags. For items without a tag, you can always bring them up to the front for an associate to help check. During my last visit, I ended up purchasing a nifty yakitori grill. You jealous? :-) Come get your own too for all your grilling pleasures! Highly recommend this store. It's especially godsend when you're looking for interesting and unique gift ideas for family, friends, people you don't know well, people who seem to have everything already. I came here with some friends after dinner as my friend had a coupon for a free Easter candy. We shopped around and found some more goodies and headed to the counter. I paid first and my friend mentioned the coupon for the free east chocolate. I completely forgot but also noticed I didn't get the email that she had. The cashier Natalie was so nice and helped me locate the email and even suggested I sign up for the text deals. When I didn't get a text back, she patiently waited for the manager to assist. She really wanted to help me get the free item. After some time the manager approved the one off since the text system wasn't working. This happened on 5/13/23, but better late than never, right? Life got in the way, so here it is: I brought my 4 items (planter pot, tea rests, hanging decor/doodad) to the counter manned by Jo C., who is one of THE most unpleasant beings that ever existed. But I didn't know of this fact until I put my items on the counter and she wrapped them up haphazardly. For instance, I had 2 ceramic tea rests that she wrapped together NOT taking any care to put paper in between to separate them, potentially causing the top one to scratch the bottom one. So I decided to re-wrap these items so that paper was between them, and not 3-4 seconds go by when Jo C. says "ARE WE GONNA WRAP OR ARE WE GONNA PAY?" Yep, she said it just like that. To say that I was shell-shocked was an understatement. So I bided my time, because I'm a patient human being. After the transaction went through, I then said to her "Here's some advice: Be Kinder To Your Customers. You brusquely said to me 'ARE WE GONNA WRAP OR ARE WE GONNA PAY?'". You should've seen the look on her face - she looked as if I witchslapped her. She then sputteringly retorted with "I AM KINDER". Again, she shouted that in my face. It's funny how deluded some beings are, not ever looking at themselves in the mirror. Jo C., I'll let your other customers and your fellow employees be the judge of the last thing you said to me (your retort). I decided to look into the 1-star and the 2-star reviews for your store, and yep, the majority of the complaints were about YOU. You need to shape up 'cuz NO ONE likes a mean old witch. I am a big fan of ginger beer, root beer, cola and chocolate and I don't like the " ordinary " American ones cos I like the ones that have taste and are actually a pleasure to consume. Sometimes products like that can be hard to come by but World Market has always been a place where those things are easy to come buy and in search of a decent ginger beer I went here on Monday and bought Bundaberg Ginger Beer in the 10-pack case. Bundaberg is readily available almost anywhere but to find it in large cases is relatively difficult so I ran a search on Google and saw that they sold 10-packs here for a reasonable price and I headed over here to buy one. They also had imported South African chocolates I had never heard of ( Nestle Bar One bars ) and I snatched up a few of those too. Never order for pickup at this location. The staff I talked to today was rude and dismissive. They completely left out 4 items I ordered and never notified me until she brought out my bag. I was charged for everything and they don't notify you if they decided not to put the items in your bag. The inventory is available online and I drove an hour to this location for it. When I got the text message that my order was ready, they had not indicated that any items were missing or sold out. The items are still showing as in-stock online. I haven't even been issued a refund for it yet. When I told the cashier there was no email as claimed and I was charged for all the items, she called for the next person in line yelling, "NEXT!" as I was still speaking right in front of her. I didn't even waste my breath telling her off because she obviously wouldn't comprehend common courtesy. This store needs to seriously work on who they hire, training cashiers not to yell while customers are speaking in front of them, and how to issue a refund and notify customers beforehand. I should've never received a text claiming all my items were ready for pickup if they weren't. The cashier didn't care and said, "Well you can look for it." That completely contradicts the point of curbside pickup. Mind you, I stood in line for 15 minutes when there was only 2 customers. The cashiers really move at a slow pace because they don't want to be there. They should hire people who want jobs instead, there are plenty looking. Nothing excuses this cashier's rude behavior. They also don't put cashier names on the receipt evidently because they have so many complaints. read more

I tried doing the Black Friday online thing, and was having some trouble (got a confirmation e-mail but no email indicating the order was ready). When I still hadn't heard anything the next day, I tried calling the store (I was worried that they'd be out of stock on the deals I'd found!). Hailey was kind and apologetic about problems their online ordering system has been having. When I explained I didn't feel comfortable coming in-store to search for and pick up items, she helped me to find a safe way to receive the items I ordered (cute earrings and gingerbread house kits for the kiddos) at the same value. After 10 minutes of waiting I finally got fed up and walked out of the store without purchasing anything, leaving my items at the register on my way out. How do you give three stars for saying everything is pretty much great too? Here is what is cool here: Christmas, while items are made in China it has a lot of good German/Scandinavian items at a good price. The real thing which is almost the same would cost 5 times more. Foods are good, and plenty of neat options. Staff has always been good, aisles clean, store clean, and order pickup good. If you want inventory knowledge I suggest you call, while mostly accurate it is not perfect and I would love to see somebody find a retail store that is perfect on their online inventory notices. read more

Deborah and the store manager are polite and helpful, but another employee -- it looks like she is from Far East, though she speaks good English -- was rude to me. I bought glassware today and she did not wrap my items to protect them. Glassware should be individually wrapped to prevent breakage, but she didn't do that. She said, "I'm very good at my job, you don't have to tell me how to do it." I like the store's wares, and I like Deborah and the manager, but the employee who checked me out was not friendly and put my purchased items at risk. read more

This is not usually my Cost Plus by site, as it is not close from where I live, but since they carry lots of high end Spanish gourmet food, when they have sales for those items (name great chorizos, salamis, tunna, etc) I do the San Jose and around Cost Plus tour! I am also a lover of all things cute and they have tons of those. Specially the little tablecloths and napkins with patterns from India are so cool and cheap. THIS IS FOR THE CUSTOMERS!! the store is completely FINE with amazing international merchandise!! it is the customers that make it so hard on the employees. customers have NO common sense these days and it's actually embarrassing knowing you guys go out in public like that. first of all, READ your fucking exclusions on YOUR coupons. there is no reason for YOU to get upset and give attitude to employees when the exclusions are attached to the coupon for your viewing pleasure at ANYTIME. second, i have came in where the shopping carts and baskets have been out of place. I purchased a couch partly in store at another location and partly online. Tons of hoops to actually get the darn couch into my new apartment. Multiple trips. Broken pieces. Scheduling conflicts. Oh my! After a few calm phone calls with Kelsey and Rhea, they quickly and happily made things right. They could tell I wasn't satisfied with the way things went, but they went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my purchase. I'll be making all my future purchases here to support them. I was so happy when this new Stevens Creek location opened, as I really liked the previous store down the street. Unfortunately, unlike the former Stevens Creek store, the team here is rude and at best indifferent. The vibe is totally weird, there may be customers in line at the cashier, yet only 1 cashier would be actually helping the customers, while the other cashiers just chat among themselves, as if they couldn't care less (or perhaps they don't) how many are waiting. I was walking down an isle today, the stock clerk (a middle age man, not a youngster) pushed a cart down the isle super fast, as if he was speeding on the freeway, when he saw me, he made no move to stop or even slow down. I was lucky I was near an opening, if I had not ducked, he would have ran me over. He could not have cared less. As I said, the vibe here is strange, it is not just 1 person that is rude, but the entire team takes on a bad attitude. A very unpleasant place. read more

I purchased a desk online and used their "free in-store pickup" service. I got a call a few hours later from the manager, Rhea, who told me that there was only one desk left and it was a return. She wanted to make sure that I knew beforehand and offered to let me look at it before they authorized the payment. I ended up purchasing the desk and to my surprise, Rhea gave me an additional discount on it since it was a return. I was prepared to pay the amount I agreed to but this was really kind. It was a huge pain to show me the desk as it was in the box and she had to unpack it slightly but she did it anyway. I've worked in retail and this kind of stuff is part of the job but it can be really annoying to do, yet she did it without any hesitation. The box barely fit inside my little Toyota Yaris so one of the associates helped me keep it fastened with rope. Thank you Rhea and to the wonderful team of employees at this location. read more

Incredible service! We just moved back into the area and have been frequenting this store since getting back. I came in 10 minutes before closing looking for a particular item (Ashlyn Bookshelf) and both Tina and Candy (sp?) assisted me. Candy was able to find the last one they had in stock and Tina was kind enough to remind me about my rewards membership (completely slipped my mind!) and rung me up. Cost Plus is one of my favorite stores and was bummed when the old location down the street closed. There was quite a few months in between before this new location opened, and I was super happy when it finally did! Sadly, this new store doesn't have the Cost Plus vibe. 3 out of 4 employees who I encountered (same day) were either rude, non-competent and not-so-helpful. The lady at the cash register was nice and helpful and ultimately felt bad for all the trouble we had encountered in a matter of like, an hour! All because they sold us the wrong items at the wrong price, and after lugging the boxed furnitures home, unboxing to find out that they are wrong, putting them back in the box, lug back to the store...and we were merely told by another employee (possibly the manager) that they don't know why the display was tagged incorrectly! The old Cost Plus store people would've for sure gone out of their way for their customers. Or at least genuinely apologize for the inconvenience that they have caused us. That doesn't even cost anything, to say sorry and really mean it! Though I still Love Cost Plus and all their good stuff, customer service is pretty important when it comes to my shopping experience. I will not be shopping at this location. The San Jose Market Center location is farther for me but I will be going there instead - there are happy/friendly employees there! read more

This place is the WORST with customer service! This was the 3rd world market store I have been to in 2 days looking for a specific chair. All the other stores were sweet and accommodating and had my order on hold when I got there. I drove an hour to get to this store. This place not only got my order wrong (and blamed it on me when I specifically asked for the armless chair.... somehow all the other stores got my order right!) good thing I realized when loading my car that they were the wrong chairs.I go back in to return them and asked if he could check if they had the armless chair instead. There's still a half hour to close and zero customers in store. He says to go look for it(!). huh?? Ok, I go looking and find a store display and ask if he could see if they had any boxed chairs. He says come tomorrow really early. I ask if they are expecting a shipment early in the am. he says no but someone will have the time to help you. Say what??? Hes doing nothing...no one's around...but he can't check inventory which would take a minute. He would rather I drive an hour(!). like WOW. And not to mention the manager is right there and did absolutely nothing to help! So different from the 3 other stores I frequented in the past couple days. Never again. I prefer this location over others, for its (usually) plentiful array of unique treasures, prime location, and excellent consumer experience. Recently, I went in while looking to get my hands on Cholula hot sauce (trumps Tapatio no contest), and they had a 1/2 off sale on some goodies I had my eye on for awhile (eg. candles, chakra rollerballs, bath salts, the list goes on...). Naturally, I spent a bulk of my time in that part of the store like a kid in a candy shop. I trust that their products are good caliber, and it's pretty fun exploring their international foods section and seeing what each country has to offer that I sometimes would have to order online for. A Worlds Market adventure is a mini dip and glimpse into both handmade & artisanal crafts and mass manufactured items, and I have stumbled upon many an interesting find here. They used to carry worry dolls from Guatemala, and I bought one for my adopted grandma, so she could rest easy and let go of some of her worries. This is a touching concept, and I love that people can have access to some finds they wouldn't have otherwise discovered. However, if you do end up going on some weekends, they may be a little more bare bones than usual. Every time I'm here, I always end up with the nicest cashiers too! One time, the employee even scanned her own coupon after we had some trouble with mine. It's a pleasant wrap up to an overall entertaining visit here. read more
